Your rabbi is not asking anything new this question was raised many years back and Christian scholars answered it very well.
Isaiah 7:14 is about Lord Jesus Christ
Dear Friend i will try to answer your question
      1) The historical background :
The King of the Northern Kingdom(divided Israel) and the King of Siriya asked the King of Judah(Ahaz) to join their coalition to defeat Assyrian king but Ahaz refused so they wanted to dethrone Ahaz and wanted to put a puppet king on the throne of Judah
      2) God's interference:
Since they wanted to dethrone Ahaz, this attack is an attack on House of David. Since God has promised King David in 2Samuel 7
So God told Isaiah to take his son(remember this) and meet Ahaz
      3) Isaiah 7:13;14-16
Is a duel prophecy first Isaiah adressed House of David in verse 14 and yes it got fulfilled in Jesus Christ
After that Isaiah adressed Ahaz he showed him his son and said by the time my boy grows the two kingdoms that attacked you will be destroyed.
      ***to Mr T
      1) The word "Betula" is used for widows in the Book of Joel. so betula doesn't represent Virgin in every context
      2) In Isaiah 7:14 "Almah" Is used do you know Almah is used for Rebecca (wife of Issac) when servant of Abraham found her. What is she, Mr T.
In songs of Solomon it's written like this " Kings Wifes, Concubines and Alamot(virgins). If almah is not virgin they should be either in wifes Or in concubines list why a separate category?
      3) You know Septuagint was translated in 235 B.C all the scholars discussed and clearly understood the meaning of the verse they also translated it as virgin you know in 235BC they don't know nothing about Christ. he is not yet born, no Christianity nothing what partiality they have to translate it that way?
The 70 Jewish scholars who were involved in the bible translation also referred to as a virgin is the appropriate translation for the Isaiah 7: 14. Do you think you know better grammar then all those language scholars
      4) ***** one commonsense question
In Isaiah 7:14 it's written that God himself will give you a sign , right
If a married woman becomes pregnant is it a sign(wonder) done by God ,or a Virgin becoming pregnant a sign? 😂😂😂

Mashiach is a human being, born in normal fashion of human parents. The only qualification about his origins is that he is a descendant of King David, through the lineage of his son Solomon. From his birth onwards his righteousness will increase continually, and by virtue of his deeds he will merit sublime levels of spiritual perfection.

      Dear HrvatskiNoahide 🖊
The Bible is so hard to read. Despite reading the Torah and Judges since childhood, i never ever felt much of any remote understanding of it until Dennis Prager began publishing his Torah commentaries. Now i have at least a kindergarten grasp of it, somewhat 😅
(*As another example, i really couldn't see what is going on or happening in Isaiah until seeing Rabbi Singer's video lecture series)
Is there any good Torah commentary you have ever read you might recommend?
Also, i looked seriously into buying a popular and huge Torah commentary -- then found out Searching online that the rabbi was Reform. Do you mind if i ask your opinion; is it worth reading a Reform commentary? Apologies if it is in any way inappropriate to ask that
Thank you for all your knowledge shared on this forum

Sir, with due respect for your zeal, I believe that Matthew is quoting from then available Greek Translation of Old Testament (Septuagint) which was translated some 300 to 200 BCE for the Jewish community in Egypt where Greek was common language of communication. Even before birth of Jesus and Matthew wrote his gospel account.
Jewish translators chose the word 'almah' to be translated as 'Virgin' but not as young woman. How to you respond to this in light of translation work not done by Christians but Jewish translators?
Only because the OT prophecies were difficult to be handled, they altogether stopped usage of Septuagint. Were Jews of first century not using this translation?

    • @joshuaezekiel6157
      @joshuaezekiel6157 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

The word Ulmah is also used in Proverbs 30: 19-20. However, in that case, it explicitly refers to "the way of a man with a young woman." The Hebrew word for virgin is pronounced "betulah" and appears nowhere in Isaiah 7, so at the very least, Isaiah is not explicitly referring to a virgin. What is referred to in Isaiah7 as a prediction, is the end of the Assyrian empire and Ephraim, which occurred roughly 600 years before Jesus's time, so the verse probably wasn't a reference to him either.

My mother and grandmother were Jewish, I was raised Lutheran to protect myself and my family. The truth was hidden but Yiddish was spoke I was "rushed" to be circumcised at the correct time! I was admonished that I should NEVER get a tattoo on pain of spiritual death. Long story short I was given a bible around 6-7 years old. I had no home instruction. I read it like I would read "any book" , from cover to cover! It never made any sense to me when I moved to the nt! Two completely different universes! I guessed that maybe I was missing something though it was never shown how. I was taught in church that there was no forgiveness in the ot, that it magically happened at the birth! I always disliked my namesake for his overwhelming EGOCENTRIC audacity, his remarks that he was finishing what their god started. He was always making excuses about money how he paid his own way (through other congregations) that he hated women especially mary. Thanks to you Rabbi and others I now understand why it didn't make any sense! I broke their belief system rules, I read in context, not from memorized passages assigned to "prove" their "truth"! Thank you again Rabbi for your guidance and evidence!

I have had Christians tell me "it doesn't matter which translation you read from" because the same truth is behind it. Wrong. I wasted years in Bible studies, and always had the same question. Why does every Christian come to a different conclusion to the meaning of what is written in plain text? Starting with a modern English translation is the first big problem. Most Christians don't even know this problem exists with ALL their old and modern translated Bibles. They never learned Hebrew beyond a few favorite words

I think, most religious beliefs await some kind of divine intervention to save the world from the chaos we seem to be in. One the striking attributes Berel showed in his film, was his kindness and acceptance of others, from other faiths and non-believers alike. That is one way to attain peace in the world. When I read some of the vitriol and cynical comments here,on both sides of belief, we seem to be far apart in that aspect.

@hrvatskinoahid1048 not all, my Jewish identity comes through maternal line. Not having a Jewish father doesn't change that. I wasn't raised to practice Judaism I didn't have a bar mitzvah. Because of my mother not marrying a Jew I don't belong to a Tribe. Not being as a Jew I was unable to join the Tribe.
As Rabbi Zelman at Chabad explained if I had documentation of my lineage I would be accepted into any Chabad Shuel I'd would have to go the process of joining the Tribe.
Since all documents have been lost over the last 90 years. Also being 63 and deciding to embrace my heritage finaly I opted to be a B'nei Noach Jew at the Rabbi's suggestion. As he put it "it's all good, no matter which I decide.

Otherwise, if you keep a levitic priesthood to cover sin and there is no sin then that priesthood becomes useless. That is why Jesus claimed the Melchizedek priesthood being a onetime sacrifice that removes sin and death in his heavenly kingdom

You can see that king Saul used two different words to describe young David, נער and עלם... , both of them mean a young man...
    See also in chapter 20...

    • @yosefbenavraham
      @yosefbenavraham 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

There's no "dual prophecy," the concept doesn't even make sense. In prophecy, the person tells you exactly what's going to happen. Then it happens. It's a specific thing that's easily seen and verified.
For example, when Isaiah prophesies that the messiah will bring world peace, we can look and verify it: did anyone bring lasting world peace yet? No, no one did. Therefore, the prophecy hasn't been fulfilled. Once the messiah is here and has fulfilled the prophecy, in this case by bringing about world peace, then it's accomplished. It doesn't then get "fulfilled" again in some other way. How would that even make any sense? It already happened! It's done.
If you entertain some non-Biblical notion of "dual prophecy," then where would it end? You could then claim that any prophecy that already has been fulfilled still has more things to fulfill. What sense does that make? Anyone could make up anything they wanted and claim it was just a "dual prophecy" that was now being fulfilled. Practically any event in history could be said to be the fulfillment of a "dual prophecy." I think you can see how ridiculous that is. And not only ridiculous, but very insulting to G-d and the prophets who told us what the *actual* prophecy is. It's like you're saying that's not good enough for you, you want it to mean something else, some private meaning that you're making up that's not even in the text. Kind of disrespectful, to say the least.
In the case of 7, that's exactly what xhristianity has done: they claimed that a prophecy that already had been fulfilled hundreds of years before the life of JC was "fulfilled again" by JC. No, the prophecy only refers to what it actually details: a child being born at that time, not some other time, being named Immanuel, and fulfilling the prophecy that Ahaz would be victorious over his enemies. All hundreds of years before JC was even here.
So it was already done and fulfilled by the time of JC. It doesn't get fulfilled again later in some different way. There's no "hidden" or "secret" meaning that applies to some later event - it already happened and is over! It's done, end of story.
And the specifics in this case don't even apply to JC, because mary named him jeesus, not Immanuel, and because JC supposedly was born perfect and knew the difference between good and evil, while the prophecy clearly specifies that when still a child, immanuel WON'T know the difference between good and evil. That's the entire vadus of the prophecy, in fact! Knowing the difference between good and evil. So how could that possibly apply to JC? The very terms of the prophecy don't even fit, lol. xhristianity just read jeesus into the text - just made up the supposed connection out of thin air - to try to satisfy their JC obsession and pretend it's about JC when it clearly isn't. A "second prophecy" isn't there, it refers only to what it clearly refers to, and that already happened 700 years before JC was even born. Prophecy closed.
And that leads to another big problem of the "dual prophecy" notion: xhristianity just throws out and ignores any part of the prophecy that doesn't apply to what they claim is the second part of the "dual prophecy." JC wasn't named Immanuel? No problem! It still refers to him even though it doesn't match! JC didn't have to learn the difference between good and evil because he was already perfect from the start? No problem! We still claim it refers to him even though it doesn't match. We'll just throw out the parts that don't match and say the other parts refer to him because they sort of seem to fit. They do the same thing with 53: just ignore whatever parts don't "fit" and can't be twisted to try to fit.
Well, you can't do that, lol. You can't just throw out parts of the Bible or prophecy you don't like that don't fit your narrative. All of it has to apply or else you're just cherry-picking to suit your agenda. That's called intellectual dishonesty.
Finally, for another big problem, if you entertain the idea of "dual prophecy," you'd also then have to consider what would prevent anything from being a triple prophecy, or a quadruple prophecy. You'd have to accommodate the idea that any prophecy could have a limitless number of other prophecies "built into" it. It would go on forever, with all fulfilled prophecies still having an infinite number of other "prophecies" still to come. I hope you can see how completely absurd that is, especially when the alleged later "dual prophecies" don't even match the original prophecy, as we just saw in the Isaiah 7 example.
It would be a very peculiar way to approach things to say an event that didn't even match all the details of the original prophecy was nevertheless a "fulfillment" of that prophecy, just because we wanted it to be. Of course that's exactly what xhristianity has done, all to try to "prove" its fake story, but that's not how reality works. It would be nice if it did work that way, because then we could claim the Bible referred to anything we wanted to claim it did, even when it didn't match it at all, and in fact xhristianity, and many people generally, have operated that way for 2000 years. They just want to pretend it means whatever they want it to mean, which is even more absurd when we consider that 99% of them don't even read Hebrew, lol. That's just self-serving dishonesty in the extreme.

@@yosefbenavraham Thanks for chiming in. I do agree, as of late I've had a hard time accepting the dual prophecy fulfillment idea due to thr main fact that no where do we ever see God or his prophets imply the prophecies would have a dual meaning...and again if I'm wrong someone can feel free ro correct me.
I'm assuming then your position is that you don't subscribe to the new testament at all correct? If so, would you give any credibility to the new testament writings at all or its just all false? Meaning existence of Jesus and the apostles and some of the events.

    • @yosefbenavraham
      @yosefbenavraham 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@dre5773 Perhaps there's some minor truth here and there - some guy probably existed and wandered around with some wacky ideas, for example - and probably it's mostly false. The theology is obviously all false, if that's what you're referring to. But whether he actually existed or not isn't really relevant, because we already know from Torah that G-d is not a man, that He has no physical form, and that "trinity" is polytheism and paganism, not the monotheism of Torah.
We also know that the messiah descends from King David, which JC did not; that he isn't anything other than an ordinary human being, which JC is claimed not to be; that he builds the Temple, which JC didn't do; that he brings world peace, which JC didn't do, and that he brings worldwide knowledge of G-d, which JC didn't do.
So no matter how you look at it, it's at best completely irrelevant to anything. A big "who cares?" because why should you care about something that's obviously false and contrary to the teachings of G-d and the prophets in Tanakh? If you follow monotheism, you don't worry about whether Confucius was G-d, right? Because you already know he isn't, lol. It's not possible, because G-d has no form. And therefore it's the same for JC, obviously. No form means no form; it doesn't mean no form except some guy who's an exception, lol. There are no exceptions.
So in the main the NT is just a propaganda piece for a false religion that the Bible warns us about not listening to. Whatever the actual conditions, reasons, or motives for it being created, the fact is that it's just another among a slew of "avodah zarah" (alien teachings) that has nothing to do with G-d, the Bible, or monotheism whatsoever. Just "lies, vanity, and things of no profit" inherited from the progenitors of xhristianity (and the culture at large following from that), as Jeremiah calls it. Basically worthless, although ultimately more dangerous than just worthless if (G-d forbid) you believe it, as it promotes pagan idolatry. So ultimately dangerous to one's soul.

Shalom Rabbi. Please help me with this question a Christian told me. I pointed out the contradictions between the book of acts chapter 9, and the book of acts chapter 23 when in one place it reads that Paul was sent by the high priest and then on chapter 23 it reads that Paul does not know who the high priest is. This was his reply to that:
    Easy
The high priest never wore the high priestly garments outside the temple and Paul by this time have being gone from Jerusalem for over ten years. The Roman’s were accepting the money of the priestly line at the highest bid and we do know that Ananias had 5 sons a son in law and a grandson who were all priest sometime during the first century. With the changes in the Roman Empire and problems in Jerusalem is would be easy for Paul not to know who the high priest is. This is why once he knew who the high priest was he was sorry to have spoken to him in a disrespectful way as it is a command to respect the elders.
    No contradiction

In Gal.3:14, Paul identifies as Gentile.
In Rom.7:9, Paul admits he once wasn't under Torah, i.e., he was Gentile, then came under Torah & found it conjured up desires to sin, in him. Thus, he became an embittered, failed convert, & sought vehemently to take others out of Judaism, too.
The entire reason why he pretends to be Jew, Roman, Greek... is to win all of them to pagan, Greek-Roman jZeus, away from Judaism & Torah, & even away from other religions...
... see his hypocricy in 1 Cor.9, where he replaces Gd's Torah with jZeus' "torah"...
... also 2 Cor.3 where he outrightly calls Gd's Torah death, dead & replaced with the torah ("new covenant") of jZeus, and maligning Jews! This is contrary to everything Torah says, e.g., Deut.30:11-20; Isa.44:18 about idolaters which Xians are, not about Jews!).
Compare Acts 15:21 where the apostles under Paul's authoritarianism, promise, as per Torah, to obey the elders & their disciples will learn under the elders armt synagogue... , but claim Torah is too difficult (and note: Deut.17:8-13 says to obey the elders/judges),
      VERSUS
Acts 18:7; 19:9 & Phil.3, etc., where they go against their word & take disciples out of Judaism.
Paul rejected any possible conversion &/or rabbinic learning he may have started, thus, forfeighting any legal rights to teach Torah & oversee conversions.
NT is a bag if mixed, corrupted & sterile seed!!! The fruit is toxic!

If the right translation is " young woman, alma" instead of " virgin, betoula" the dual prophecy is still valid. Why ? First in judaism a young woman who is not married is supposed to be virgin. Otherwise do not you gather a pile of stones? Then even if a young woman is not always a virgin, a young virgin can always be called a young woman, an alma. So Mary mother of Jésus was an alma and a betoula, isaiah chapter 7 can be applied to her.

Linguisticly, Matthew 1.23 makes no sens : the word Betulah (found in the Peshitta). This word is used when the blood appears from a young women after a s.xual relation, betulah was the proof she was virgin. Without this proof, we can't say a girl is virgin.

      then Pentecostal, yo-yo roller-coaster ride,
then after 31 years left church & a yr later messianic for 9 years.
By then I saw enough to toss the jZeus forbidden image.
I questioned if Tanakh is also lies, and ran through many religions, looking for one which describes Gd of the Universe.
Only Torah helped me live right for Gd. Only Torah is wise, right & fair (Deut.4:7-8). So I stick with Tanakh & Judaism, testing everything against my increasing knowledge of Tanakh.
Believe in yourself, & if notnin yourself, then believe in what Gd made, & that He says "even the simple gain wisdom & right-living through Torah"! You are a miracle, a Divine soul able to connect with Gd, able to learn & obey Gd... powerful & mighty to overcome the animalostic instincts of the animal soul. Gd didn't make a mistake!
Shalom dear sister & friend! Study the lriestly blessing & receive jt. Study the 13 attributes & receive it.
Believe me, I also battled for years, reading Heb like a Gr-1 child. I pressed on. Perseverance is paying off!

If what Tovia says is true and it’s very persuasive where does that leave Islam ? Don’t they also say Jesus was born of a virgin ?
I was told by a Christian pastor once when I questioned them that the Christian prophecies were historical but also typological ? I also heard the virgin birth stories may have been added later . For duel or even more than duel angles to prophesy, it could be a case where it works only on an individual verse basis.
As for virgin birth, it could mean a lady whos first child is by her only having been with one male.Rabbi u have mentioned that another lady other than Mary, had a virgin birth.

Hardly! Jews collected 2000 most ancient Tanakh manuscripts from around the globe, and found only some 7 minor spelling differences.
This, versus 1000's of huge differences as big as a few chapters differing, between newer "NT" manuscripts.
No small spelling error in masoretic text, is going to make anyone lose "salvation" & go to what Xians call "hell".
Torah is clear: keep Torah, love Gd, & He will physically look out for u. Sometimes, like Job, u will be tested. Just keep on keeping Torah. The message of Torah/Tanakh is pretty clear!!!
It's "NT" that makes for 100's of different interpretations.

I know the scribes are meticulous at recording errors and such, and also are susceptible to making errors in error keeping. It is the nature of proofreading. And today's Tanakh is corrupt, evidence by discrepancies in NT, Septuagint with the Jewish Bible. The fact that they got these discrepancies shows there are altered text unrecorded by Jewish Rabbis.
