Kinda wished the PS1 had the length of the Rally courses as the PC version's, then again it's probably due to limitations. The game's well known for accurate depiction of how long Rally stages really are. Usually completing one stage would take around 8-20 mins long, as opposed to the 3-5 mins we usually see in most Rally games, even modern ones.
2:28 oh my god that's the voice of Tony Mason. He used to do all the rally reports for old Top Gear. He's basically the Murray Walker of Rally. They couldn't have picked a better voice.
Those graphics are surprisingly good for a PS1 game! The lighting looks very good and the car's shadows and (I think) specular on the rear windshield are rotation-dependent, there's a cockpit camera and windshield wipers... On a CRT display, it sure looks amazing, based on the fact my phone's screen has an extra punch of contrast.
It's cool that you can see the drivers inside the car at the car selection screen. I wonder if that's just a texture inside the car model or some kind of overlay texture on the windows. There is some warping to it when the car rotates, which makes me think it's an overlay.

I used to play the PC version so much back in the day! Put so many hours into it, definitely one of my favourite games ever, that intro is still so sick 👌🏻

The very last game developed by Magnetic Fields and the third last game of the Rally Championship series. I remember HATING this game after playing it a bit, for its difficulty, framerate and length. Later on I played the PC version and loved it. A really good release if you play the correct port.
@@karelpipa Its developers created other entities as they departed the company, which stopped developing games. I haven’t heard of a bankruptcy or folding of the company, though, so I assume they are dormant. They haven’t published any new games after this release either.
I don't remember this version of this rally racing video game being published or co-published by Electronic Arts. Plus, it seems to have some differences.
I remember borrowing this game from a friend and also almost winning a tournament we had at said friend's birthday party. The physics were frustrating even back then, but otherwise it felt decent for an early rally game - until I played the PC version. Because the game seemed kind of realistic, I used to believe they really drove through a castle in real life Pirelli Rally! Unless I'm mistaken, Richard Burns Rally is kind of like the spiritual successor to this, since this console port was made by Atod, which was merged into Warthog, who in turn made the last two Rally Championship titles, before developing RBR.
i just thought of something (assuming hybriding in GT concept works) the hidden unused mini cooper rally car but with the CZ3 tarmac rally car transmission so that it works properly
I knew only about he PC version, and i loved it because of the long tracks and was great, even the graphics for 2000 and this looks quite nice vs the PC version

Yeah this game was limited greatly by PS1, PC version is still (barely) playable now which I am very greateful for.
