Yes, the $99 is fine for what it is, but there is really not much point upgrading unless you need 32-bit float, and if you do the Rode Wireless Pro is the better option.

I don’t have any microphones at all as of now. Thinking about using my phone and also purchasing the media mod for my GoPro black hero 10. I plan on using it for interviews and videos and possibly podcasting. Which set up would you get in my position? Thanks in advance. 👍
Thanks Phillip. Any chance you could show us what the “float” is capable of doing? I have very limited experience with audio so knowing what it can do would be helpful.
Great comparison. I just got the mic 2 kit, but I haven't even unwrapped it and taken it out of the box yet. I use the mic mostly for vlogging with my Insta 360 X3 and the audio sounds great directly into the camera without the receiver connected through air pods. The only drawback is I can't monitor it, but it always sounds good. I got the mic 2 with the Pocket 3 Creator Kit. I've been using the Mic 1 since it came out and I like not having the receiver when vlogging. I also didn't like the way the Mic 1 connected to my Sony. cameras. I really like the DJI Lab mic compared to the Rode, I am still on the fence, but I may send the DJI Mic 2 kit back and just keep what I have. Thank you for your review.
Either I missed it or you didn't reveal which was which. I'm gonna assume Mic2 was DJI Mic 2 and Mic 1 was the original version? To me, Mic2 sounds more tinny.
I’m gonna disagree. Get the Mic 1 for cheaper cost, and it’ll do great for iPhone only, cause you’re connecting the receiver directly to the phone. I connect mine directly to the computer, the iPhone, a few action cameras like the DJI Action 2. Only reason to spend the extra $100 is the 32 Bit Float for “safety net” but like he says at the end, if you know how to set your audio settings, it’s not needed.
Well, the Mic 2 microphone only is $99, so it's by far the cheapest option and it connects to the iPhone without any wires, so personally I think that is the best option.
I saw where someone said that if you want to use both DJI Mic 2 mics with the Pocket 3, you have to plug in the receiver to the usb port of the Pocket 3 in order to record in stereo. If you use the built in receiver in the Pocket 3, the 2 mics will record in mono. Do you know if this is correct? If so, this would be very disappointing.
@@PhillipSkraba if this turns out to be true, I'll likely not pay a premium for the DJI mic 2 and go for a lower priced 3rd party wireless mic setup. Most of my recordings will be using two mics needing to be adjusted separately in post (so I'll need to record in stereo). If I could record in stereo with the Pocket 3 built in receiver, I could justify the price. If only mono, it's not worth it for me. Thanks in advance for confirming.
I can tell the difference on my Macbook speakers I just ordered the Mic 2. Apparently some models have pre-production firmware which can cause some issues (based on other reviews) so I hope mine is not one of those.
Yeah? You must be an audiophile as I've listened to them a lot and I can't hear any difference, and in fact the Mic 1 usually seems a little cleaner and less muffled than the Mic 2. It's a superb system and great that it has bluetooth, that's a real step forward. Firmware we can update, I've been doing it for months with my Mic 2 as I got it way before the Pocket 3 launch.
@@EddyVinck I've listened to so many of these tests over the last 2 weeks and I can't tell the difference. It's only when I use a different mic, such as the Rode or Saramonic that I can actually hear that there is a difference in audio. The Rode usually comes out on top, but it's missing bluetooth connectivity if that's important to someone.
Hey Phillip. I have the OA4 and i want to buy just the Transmitter. Question is if i record the audio with the Transmitter, the audio file is stored on to Transmitter or in DJI OA4? If so then i have to sync the audio file with video inside Davinci? Thank and btw all your clips are awesome
It will record onto the Action 4 instead of the built-in mic, and it will record onto the Mic 2 itself so you have a backup if you so wish. It's a great mic to have with the Action 4, works really well.
@@PhillipSkrabado it record both from Action 4 And DJI Mic 2 Source? Like example if i put in davinci it will be 2 separate audio source on editing. I hear osmo pocket 3 can do that
I like everything about the DJI mic 2 except for the sound quality. It's abit too bright and abit too detailed for spoken words, and most people use these mics for spoken word application. Nothing unfixable in post but I would prefer for it to be more on the darker side.

Kind of a dumb question, but does the mic 2 fit into the case with the attached wind muffs? Personally, I leave my wind muffs permanently attached since I do 95% of my filming in the outdoors/windy environments. A core minor annoyance I had with the mic 1 was that I couldn't simply dock them into the case with the muffs attached, and had to remove them every time to get them to fit properly. Is there now enough clearance to dock the mic 2 into its respective carrying case with the muffs attached?
It's the stupidest thing they could have done, not fix that annoying problem! The Mic 2 case will NOT fit the dead fully cats, so you WILL have to take them off. This is not the case in the case of the case of the Rode Wireless GO Mic system, there you can keep them on which makes my life much more pleasant.
@@PhillipSkraba argh, DJI has been on this personal trend for me where they've gotten things 99% of the way there, but then that 1% makes things incredibly annoying. I recently got a pocket 3 after having both a pocket 1 and pocket 2, and the new centering behavior has been driving me insane. When the camera is set to rearview, centering now behaves like tilt-lock across all 3 modes. When the camera is set to selfie view, centering behaves like FPV across all 3 modes. There's a thread up in their forums where the engineers have even stated that its the new expected behavior -- just the littlest little frustrating things, I swear 😕
Noise cancelling was very minimal and your voice did change, I'll stick with my mic 1, plus like yourself I always just set the gain correctly I've never needed 32bit

@ibrakadabra40 I always have my camera on 10-12, that’s good for Sony levels. Keep the levels at -12 to -6 and you should be good, any higher and you could get some nasty distortion, so don’t let it peak much higher.

Yes, it locks in on the Rode Pro. The DJI Mic 2 is as loose as a wizards sleeve, lav and fluffy dead cat come out super easy. So if you’re filming in situations where you need a solid lav connection, go with the Rode Wireless Pro.
@@PhillipSkraba Ah yes, got ya. Just bought the RØDE Wireless Pro yesterday. Today I had my first gig with it. Solid performance and yes, the lav just doesn't come off! I think it’s important not to get on the upgrade hamster wheel (unless you have money to throw away). If what you have does the job you bought it for and works fine, why waste money (especially if they sound the same)? You’ll only end up in the same situation next year when they inevitably bring out the mic 3 to grab more of your money. Wait a couple of generations and then upgrade. It’ll be worth it feature wise and by then what you have will probably need changing anyway.
No timecode No TRS locking Make the charging case more than just a charging case so you can get rid of the usb-c port on the transmitter: file offload, software upgrade, tc-sync,... Rode makes microphones, that’s all there is to say on that topic. However, DJI has made some incredible strides for a company that makes drones and cameras. I’m betting DJI Mic 3 will be insanely good.
@@PhillipSkraba no clue, that’s why I ask. I understand what you’re trying to do but at the same time I feel like making us wait a couple of days is less productive, especially if I’m trying to make a purchasing decision today.

The differences on paper like you’ve explained in this last comment are something I can read on DJI’s website, the sound quality, which is why I watched your TH-cam video is what I’m really trying to hear, not something you can read on a stat sheet. I don’t understand why it’s a big secret that you have to hide when I can go to another TH-cam channel and probably watch the same thing, I just prefer watching your channel. But I suppose if you’re not going to release the information now , then I’ll go to another channel to find out the audio differences. I’m not saying that in a mean way, it’s just kind of frustrating because I don’t see the point of hiding it for two days. Especially when you get items sometimes before release and give your opinions early before official launch dates. So when something hasn’t been released officially, you will release all you can and give information about it but when something has been released, you’re gonna make us wait even longer to show us the differences or tell us.

@@PhillipSkraba The Rode Smart LAv+ is TRRS. It works GREAT with the DJI Mic 1, but not DJI MIc2. I'm going to try the Rode SC# TRRS to TRS converter. I'll do some testing and see.
To me, they sounds identical, both great mics, and if you have the Mic 1 there are only two reasons to upgrade - if you need wireless bluetooth audio (which is awesome as all I need is the mic itself and a camera), and if you're ridiculously bad at settings levels and in need of 32-bit float.

Well, you can whisper and bring it back with hardly hiss or scream and not have it distort and sound nasty.
Hello sir
I am thinking of buying one. Which one should I buy for Canon R6 m2? Mic 1 or Mic 2?
I sent my Mic 2 back, I have the Combo unit and that's enough for me. If I want good clean audio though I use my Rode.
The white one might be nice for weddings and such...
That’s true!
I will stay with my Mic1
No reason at all for the upgrade for me
Done a lot with it and it is doing all what i need
If you don't need the bluetooth function, there really isn't much point.
Thanks buddy!
You're welcome, thanks!
Witch sound Quality is best and value for money
Yes it’s worth it, 32 bit newer tech and noise canceling
The noise cancelling sounds horrible. The 32-bit float, had it, never ever needed it. It’s a good safety net for beginners though.
This video makes me feel really good for owning both.
Yeah, both are pretty good.
Thanks, bro
Anytime.
Either I missed it or you didn't reveal which was which. I'm gonna assume Mic2 was DJI Mic 2 and Mic 1 was the original version? To me, Mic2 sounds more tinny.
Yes, correct, both were labelled correctly.
which city is that may i ask. i love trams.
For recording on iPhone only would the first generation be a cheaper and still good option?
For iPhone only I’d pick up the DJI Mic 2 microphone only for $99 to be honest.
@PhillipSkraba I have heard alot about the bluetooth connection having quality losses. Have you had any issues or noticed that?
@@assassinfox24 Mine's been fairly good, it's not the same as the wireless signal strength but it does a good job.
Have any videos on making the audio sound better with eq or effects?
I mainly add voice isolation, a touch of loudness and I’m done. I’m not really an audio guy, more of a visual person.
Great review. When you only pair the DJI mic 2 transmitter via bluetooth to the action 4, is there a way to see the battery level?
Sure, in the settings, if you go into the wireless mic settings on the Action 4, it'll show you the % of battery power left on the mic.
@@PhillipSkrabaAwesome, thanks.
I’ll have to test that, but it could be so. You might need the base to go stereo.
@oldachyrunner that’s logical, yes. Well, I try to remember to check tomorrow in the studio.
I can tell the difference on my Macbook speakers
I just ordered the Mic 2.
I was watching it earlier this morning, and now that I am comparing again I am not so sure anymore 😂 both sound good though @@PhillipSkraba
Can I use both at the same time... Mic 2 on Bluetooth and mic 1 with receiver?!
In theory that should be possible, yes.
Hi :) Have you tried to connect mic 2 to a mic 1 receiver?? :) I'd love to hear mic1 vs mic2 comparison in really really windy conditions :)
I don't believe it will connect, no.
Thats great! Its exactly what i needed. Thanks @@PhillipSkraba
Anytime!
I've kind of liked the sound of the DJI mics, but I know what you mean, it's a little too sunny sometimes.
Can you use the mic 1 reciever and just buy a mic 2 transmitor. Will it work?
I'm afraid not, no.
I was in a shop doing the exact thing and found out the hard way so exchanging for version one tomorrow 😂😂
¡Hola!
but honestly wich one is wich? :D I think your MIC 1(Video right top) sounds better, is it the DJI 1 or 2??
They’re both actually named correctly 🔥
Thank you! Then i will get defenitly the first one haha
@@EveryCountry Well, let's hope DJI can pick themselves up, and let's hope GoPro can too!
Saw from other reviews the wind muffs attach in a more simple matter. Less twisting more plugging
Can both pair of mics work at the same time to the action4 by Bluetooth alone?
I'm afraid not, you can only pair one.
Noise cancelling was very minimal and your voice did change, I'll stick with my mic 1, plus like yourself I always just set the gain correctly I've never needed 32bit
Yes, I prefer to use noise reduction in post, I’m not a fan of baking it in, it makes my voice sound much worse, so I prefer the control I have in editing.
I'm still looking for the ability to listen to the transmitted audio with Bluetooth earbuds. I have not seen anyone do that.
That would be comfortable 🤘🏻
Theoretically could I just purchase a screw in lav mic for this or does the unit need to be compatible? It’s the only thing stopping me from purchasing it.
The screw in mics don't all manage to go deep in, so I've advice against that.
@@PhillipSkraba I have the Tascam DR10L but I’d love one of these to be able to record good on camera audio, curious if I could try the lav that comes with the Tascam on the DJI to see if it’s more secure.
It's worth a try! I've tried a few, not all work.
Does it still sound good when connected over Bluetooth?
Yes, very good depending on the camera of course. I did a video connecting it to a bunch of different devices.
@@PhillipSkraba Appreciate your response. I’m just looking to connect it to action 4 and iPhone.
In that case just pick up the $99 Mic 2 microphone, it does a great job by itself.
hi. how to format the dji mic 2? thanks
Via the base unit or when connected to your computer.
Do you happen to know if I can use the mic #1 with a dji osmo action camera
You can, but via a cable.

I just leave it on normal and 10 on my Sony, works great.

@@PhillipSkrabaand also if I export the video in finalcut, how do I know if its loud enough. For what values I have to look for?
@ibrakadabra40 I always have my camera on 10-12, that’s good for Sony levels. Keep the levels at -12 to -6 and you should be good, any higher and you could get some nasty distortion, so don’t let it peak much higher.
Great video. Could you confirm if both were the CE and not the FCC versions?
Well, I bought mine in Poland, so surely CE. Thanks!

So what was mic 1 and mic 2? Are you saying there is no difference? Why even blur them out then?
Well, so no one has any initial thoughts as to which one is the “newer” one. There is no sound difference to my ears, no.
@@PhillipSkrabalol ofc there is a huge tonal difference...mic number 1 sounds way fuller
@JohnTrasher that is interesting. They are labelled correctly by the way, Mic 2 is Mic 2.

@JohnTrasher Yes, both great, but no need to upgrade from Mic 1 really unless you need wireless bluetooth.
Hello! Great video...question that I can't see to find an answer on: Does the dji mic protect against clothing rustling? With my past lapel mics that rubbed up against clothing, you can hear the rustling of the cloths which would impact the main audio.
im thinking of buying the osmo action 4 and the mic 2 because im starting to make some videos for linkedin, and solo podcasting. do i need the receiver? or is the mic itself just enough?
You’ll need the receiver if you plan on using 2 mics with the osmo action. If you plan on using 1 mic you won’t need a receiver. The TH-camr “potato jet” did a bunch of tests and one of them was with the osmo action 4.
With the Action 4 you just need the $99 mic 🤘🏻

How does the DJI Mic 2 compare to the Rode Wireless Pro? I was about to order the Rode Wireless Pro, but am unsure of which to get now after the release of the DJI Mic 2. I shoot mainly weddings and vlogs. Thanks!
The Rode Wireless Pro is excellent, and hold the lav mic a million times better.
What do you mean with 'holds the lav mic better'? The locking mechanism?@@PhillipSkraba
What also pleases me really well is that the units will turn on by themselves when you remove them from the cases. They also were connected just from the very start, it was an Apple-like experience!
@@BTMovieSecondChannel Rode have been in the mic business for a long time and they make excellent microphones, I have a ton of them in my studio, and luckily a new package on its way. The fact that the lav won't pop out really does ease my mind with the Wireless Pro.

It won't?? I will check that tomorrow morning when I'm in the studio, it should do!

Thank You! The Mic 1 is really great, and I use it a lot. The Mic 2 is of course better in terms of features, but at the end of the day, you've listened to them, they sound identical. I might send mine back.
@@StarWarsJay exactly!

No TRS locking
Make the charging case more than just a charging case so you can get rid of the usb-c port on the transmitter: file offload, software upgrade, tc-sync,...
Make it a little bit more expensive and add these features and I'll buy two
now it's just a software upgrade
I'm so dissapointed and hurt that they let rode win this round
Rode makes microphones, that’s all there is to say on that topic. However, DJI has made some incredible strides for a company that makes drones and cameras. I’m betting DJI Mic 3 will be insanely good.

For clarification which mic was which?
I’ll pin that to a comment in a few days, which one do you think was the DJI Mic 2?

You're trying to ruin my fun Preston, as a fellow TH-camr that's just mean. This is code - they are labelled correctly.
