This has got to be the cheapest, thinnest copy of a grimmoire encyclopedia. Thousands upon thousands, upon thousands of references with no color, and in black and white. A true encyclopedia of this magnitude would cost thousands of dollars. This is a bargain
Got my hardcover preorder a few days ago and finally dug in yesterday. Funny that I'm so excited about 1200ish pages of endless tables. I had the same minor issue with the cover on the spine but fully agreed on the cost given the size. It's hard to imagine the amount of work that went into compiling all of this.
Isn't it amazing? David has done something very impressive here, without a doubt! And hats off to Hadean Press for knocking it out of the park at an affordable price!
Okay... okay... this review proves the purchase of these on my next payday is completely valid... The amount of information contained within these two is gonna make me cry tears of joy.. It will help limit the weight of my shelf.. I'll only need excess books for indepth wisdom about certain topics im specifically interested in.. otherwise these two are perfect for the rest.. Thank you for such a great review
It's so nice to see definitive texts coming out, like "The Kabbalistic Tree", Agrippa's 3 vols of "Occult Philosophy" & this work. Can't remember if I mentioned the Ultimate edition of de Plancy's "Infernal Dictionary"?
I've been waiting for you to review this. I was in two minds about whether to buy or not (because of the cost) but it looks incredible. I only recently got interested in the grimoires and I am now fascinated by them. I am still working my way through JSK's Encyclopaedia Goetica (I am loving it). My mind's made up - I am getting this.
… and mine arrived just two hours ago. What a wonderful time to live in, when books so good, so complete, so profound are produced! It's a golden age for the occult! Anyway, dear Fish, I just wanted to share my joy with you who are like my “Long-Lost Friend”, so to speak…😉
Love the encyclopedia but I don't understand why they sold it separately instead of a 2 tome bundle like e.g. JSKs Geosophia? I'm thinking at least the >hardcover< version as a bundle.
Great review, Denis-as always! I love David’s work and have been eagerly awaiting these tomes since I caught wind of the work-in-progress. I’m back from a mini-sabbatical and the first thing I did when I hit TH-cam was dial up my Foolish Fish! 🎏 I missed your keen insights, solid recommendations, and uncanny knack for unearthing occulted magical gems for your loyal subscribers while I was busy editing our company’s first volume in our new book series-the Traditional Latin American Magic Collection… It’s a deep dive on Cuban Santería and during the editing process I’ve learned a lot, visited Botanicas Nuevas, and allied myself with several complementary Orishas! It’s been a fascinating trip and we’re just getting started (Our next title is a behind the veil look at Haitian Voodoo, of which Papa Legba himself would approve!) Unfortunately while I was heads-down, all my TH-cam memberships lapsed, so I’ll be renewing them shortly! You, sir, are on the top of my list. Thank you for your continued work and I’m so excited to get my copy of your book soon. Best wishes, brother! ✌🏼
There's also Jophiel the archangel in Briah which is ascribed to Chokmah, which is different from the intelligence in Yetzirah (not an archangel) of Jupiter. These are two different beings, with two different spellings in Hebrew. Confusion between them is similar to the confusion which arises between several other similar sounding spiritual creatures.
I was wondering: is there a list of all the known manuscripts for every grimoire included in the book? I'm very interested in researching the primary sources, in some cases, and that would be a massive help.
No, if you go to Angela's Symposium & watch the interview with Dr. Matthew Melvine-Koushki who specialises in Arabic & Persian grimores he says there's at least a 100, 000 texts yet to be translated let alone researched, but this text in question probably has all the Greek, Hebrew & Latin ones.
you messaged me about me after i noticed the hard covers on your shelf, ..when i got mine, earlier that day i am so damned jealous.. when i ordered my copies, it was only paperback available anyway.. just wanted to let you know, i got your message if you wish, keep up the dialog with me, i have so many books, i can't keep up lol i knew what grimoires were back in the day, but had old copies of goetia and the books of moses i know most people hate the book, but i bought the first edition. of Modern Magick, by Donald Kraig, and it opened the door to the goetia, to me..i enjoyed it so much, that i bought the 3rd edition, with new info i have a few books, where i bought the first edition, and the a newer edition, just to see how much the author has learned
Just ordered volume 1 paperback. Cannot wait to flip through it. Shame the hardbacks are 300 pounds each. Not quite that for the softback but still a hefty price. 😢😮😅
I guess that would be subjective rather than objective information (and so belonging more in a dedicated book rather than in an encyclopaedia. I can recommend the works of Jacobus G Swart on these topics 😊
Idk if this comment is premature.... This video was recommended to me & I immediately went looking for the books. I'm in US & only see paperback available... How do I get hardcovers?!
@@FoolishFishBooks shit, boy. That was fast. Didn't these books just release?! You think it's possible - & not in the "Anything's possible! McWorld!" kind of way - that those hardcovers will reach The Colonies? You know, us Yanks.
@@itsmytoast666 I imagine many of the hardcovers were in fact bought by clients in the US. You can either keep an eye on the (no doubt extortionate) market, make a request to Miskatonic Books to keep an eye out for you, buy the paperbacks (which are good quality and reasonably priced), or wait the few years it will take for the theoretically planned second edition 😊
@@FoolishFishBooks, I might have to wait - got sacked from my job & having trouble finding a new one. Gotta put my cat's insulin & eating first. Haha. Thanks, for the advice, all the same, dude! Glad TH-cam recommended your channel.
Can wait for you to review " The Grimoire of the 72 angels of the Shemhamphorash" by Qirui Huo. I read the book, and it is kind of confusing. I believe it is because of poor grammar.
Hi. I want to know if you recommend to invest in these volumes instead of buying the actual Grimoires or it would be better to buy these books and still buy the Grimores?
The trick for aspiring magicians coming along today is to sort through the vast quantities of ancient and original texts to determine how to proceed. Few (if any) will be able to make extensive use of these resources. This encyclopedia is one tool for those individuals, and your review shows how it might be used with that end in mind. Was it easier when I came along? Sure. Better? That's probably a question for your HGA to answer. Thanks for exploring these things for us all.
WWWAAAWWW man!!! Did you get already your copy of the Grimoire Encyclopaedia volumes?!? I'm still waiting (super-eagerly) for mine to arrive in the mail! I so envy you sometimes pal! 😂❤🎉
Haven’t these been in stock since July11,23? Because, I put my pre order in beginning of the year. Still NO BOOKS. They should give a discount for another item for the wait. Paperback went out first. What a joke.
These aren't all that useful to me yet simply because I'm nowhere near ready to use them. Yet, I'm afraid NOT to buy them because they are going to get very expensive later.
It's a lot of money, without a doubt, but given most niche-interest books at the 300 page mark go for 70-90 GBP, this is very, very good value for money!
Are the grimoires disguised to be fiction so that they don’t get destroyed by the catholic church? Someone tell me idk i keep hearing people calling grimoires works of fiction?
They look attractive and will be decorative on your shelves ..... if that's your "thing", but does anyone in the 21st century actually work with this outdated, complicated stuff anymore? If you do, you must have a lot of spare time on your hands!
Grimoires are complicated and their methods are often obtuse but they are the best method for spirit contact before you get a more direct method. Learning how to contact that spirit more easily the next time via questioning like what time do you like to appear or what sigil do you respond is a good practice.
No they don’t, but books such as these are really useful as a quick point of reference, it’s beauty is in its simplicity. I have both volumes and I use them often
