- A court full of legends played this night. Larry Bird put up a game-high 38pts and was one assist short of a triple-double. Number 23 had 36pts, 11asts, and 6rebs - plus two botched layups. Both legends displayed their peerless passing ability on this night. MJ has two sweet dishes to Will Perdue. Larry Legend connects with Parish and McHale on a few occasions. And, yeah, Scottie Pippen battles Bird all night and notches a couple highlight reel plays as well. Dennis Johnson was steady as always. And Kevin McHale still knew how to use "guile" in the low post. This was some fine basketball. One catch: the copy I had was missing most of the first quarter.

In 1989-90 an injured Larry Bird still had crazy nice numbers. 24.3 PPG, 9.5 RPG, and 7.5 APG? that's crazy as hell. He came off a surgery from last season and had to sit out and had terrible back problems, yet he shows his mastery and love of the game.
All of which proves why he’s the GOAT!
*BIRD VS JORDAN WAS A VERY UNDERRATED RILVARY.*
This game right here made me fall in love with the NBA for the very first time
And people said bird was a shell of himself at this time 😭
Came looking for this footage. I was at this game! And yes it was March 4 as a couple of other commenters noted. First time I’d ever been in Boston Garden. Brings back lots of memories from that day. Thanks for posting this.
Very cool!
Always a great game to watch when two all-time greats like Larry Legend and Air Jordan go at it!!
My two favorite players ever. After watching these old Jordan vs. Bird battles it seems like Bird along with Drexler were the closest things Jordan had to a true head to head rival.
David Davinyl Magic wasn't a rival? It took bull breath 7 years to win a title. He couldn't beat the showtime Lakers in the prior 6 years and he did not play the showtime Lakers in 91, Pat Riley was gone and showtime went with him.
Maybe he was, but they only faced off once in the playoffs.
Other way around actually. Jordan was the closest thing Bird and Magic had as a rival. And they almost always came out on top against him.
@@Jondsmusic Jordan got better later on
@@renzopeterson153 he was fine in the beginning. He finally started playing like a team player and not a ball hog and Bird and Magic retired. That’s what happened.
There was always something about the Bulls playing in the Boston Garden back then.
I remember how in the end, Bird was actually followed while going for a 3pointer with the Celtics down by 3 with about 15 ticks left and uncharacteristically, Bird made only 2 of 3 free throws. The last seconds were a foul shooting game.
Almost 20 years ago, but I remember a lot of these details since it was such a great and memorable game even though it was not a playoff game but a regular season game.
Jordan finally had a team, that could match up well with the Celtics that's why they won, when he was a rookie he didn't have a team
Basically, and people will say he needed great team to compete but they forget when the field was even in the 84 olympics, jordans team beat the nba stars of bird, magic and isaiah 7-0
Greatest SF of All-time vs the Greatest player of All-time. CLASSIC!!!
Jordan and bird went toe to toe .
Larry Bird was better than Jordan.

Great! thank you for uploading this
The last year of the NBA on CBS
Yeah, but..... Larry was 23-11 vs MJ lifetime with two sweeps of mj during the playoffs.
Exactly! An inconvenient truth Jordan lovers don’t want to face!
March 4, 1990 actually.
i agree 100% but i would also put some great teams from 60's and 70's!imagine 60's celtics with russell-havlicek-sam jones-cousy vs 80's with bird-mchale-parish-dj!or 1967 76ers with wilt-greer-walker-cunningham vs 1983 with drj-moses-toney-cheeks!or 1972 lakers with wilt-west-goodrich vs 80's with magic-kareem-worthy-scott!i also like 71 bucks with jabbar-oscar-dandridge or 70 knicks with reed-frazier-debbushere vs ewing-starks-oakley!it would be just amazing!
This was March 4 1990, the day muself and Draymond Green was born, amd the same day Hank Gathers died.
thanks for the video! But why is the 1st quarter missing?
bird was the most unathletic/most skilled player i've ever seen...

BIRD SWEEPS JORDAN.AGAIN!
@jaboo82681 who lost against Bird six times in the playoffs altogether? Truth hurts doesn’t it?
well i agree mj did n't have the supporting cast bird had in 80's but the same was for dominique or ewing!eventhough i agree that mj might be slighlty better than bird u should admit that bird was n't the same after 1989 when he had those serious injuries but he still could dominate vs one of the best perimeter defenders ever, pippen!bird had 38-11-9 and was 34 at that time!i am not taking anything from mj though,he was the best ever ,next to wilt.
LMAO!Jordan finally had someone to pass to.
I love basketball I wish they never got old and injured smh im sad just talking about it.Think about Birds 86 Celtics vs Jordan 96 Bulls or Penny and Shaq vs the 04 Pistons. How about the Big three with KG/Pierce/Allen from 08 vs the 2012 Miami Heat.I love basketball. How about the 95 Rockets vs the 99 Spurs..Crazy!!
Wanna know why the Bulls couldnt beat the Celtics?Go read when the game was ours..Bird says out his own mouth.."the reason Jordan never won is because Jordan had no team".This is from Birds mouth so I could care less what Merkin(A bird fan)has to say about it.
We were robbed not getting bulls vs celtics playoff match up in the late 80s when jordan had a better team around him
Unfortunately (& oddly) mj wouldn’t face Bos in the playoffs in the mvp portion of his career (from ‘88 & going fwd), after ‘87 the next chi-bos playoff series would be all the way to ‘09 incredibly
@mesocorny4366 yah it's crazy, the bulls also didn't face reggies pacers till 98. I guess cause they weren't in the same division.
Was this the Easter Sunday overtime game that the Celtics won? If so, I was at that game.
Bird fans act like the 86-87 bulls were a great team, nah they were garbage, without jordan on the floor the team would lose leads and get outscored until jordan was put back in. Why do yall jordan haters conviently leave context out of the equation?
declining Bird and rising Pippen...and yet Larry has another excellent game against defending Pippen.
Jordan vs Bird (Wed, Nov 6, 1991) Chicago 132 @ Boston 113 (Jordan Wins)

Aint dat a byatch Jordan jockers, mj could jack up some shots, but he didnt know shit about winning against the Master ;)
Larry Bird OWNED MJ Birds record vs MJ: 23-11 with two sweeps of MJ in the playoffs ;) At one point (Jan 12, 1988 - Fri, Mar 21, 1986) Bird beat Jordans ball hoggin ass 13 games in a row!!!! Oh shit, yo my byaaaatch!! MJ ;)
Jordan vs Bird (Thu, Nov 15th, 1984) Boston 125 @ Chicago 105: Bird Wins
Jordan vs Bird (Sat, Dec 22nd, 1984) Boston 85 @ Chicago 110: Jordan Wins

Jordan didn't have a great team
@@courtneywhite4093 excuses excuses he made it all about himself. He won because he finally started trying to play as a team player and Bird snd Magic retired. That’s the real reason.
@KHayes666 Jordan teammates got better thats why!
I thought Jordan didn't pass the ball
It's a myth. MJ in his prime was a playmaking machine. Usually racking up 6-8 assists in the regular season and post season in addition to his prolific scoring and elite defense.
And
lol....ok
@PhilBurr100 He immediately started having servere back problem just a few day a comment he made that Jesus Christ Himself couldn't stop him when he's on his game. Well He stopped him
Aye .. Robert Parish. Jordan just beat you. So, does this mean that the Celtics were NOT a great team?
No it means peyote like you made foolish comments that make zero sense.
Yes, they were not.
