Everything in the game not zeah/desert/swamp have been pretty much abandoned and will continue to be that way for a bit longer we got priff and it feels like an empty box mm2 was pretty awful and the content unlocked by it is again lackluster outside of bis gems fremmy/kand/tira will hopefully be the next focus for the next 5 years after we wrap up the swamp and desert current quest chains

I guess it's because you can get the crystal armor + bowfa, which is big in the main game. I know in leagues that's not considered BIS. We are getting sailing at some point, so I could see that helping Tirannwn and Fremmy in future leagues.
No legends guild with just kandarin (pre-reqs impossible).... no mages guild rune store without asgarnia.. This place got shunned hard. took a while to get my solo fishing outfit as well. not a soul around
Its just my comfy pick, questing for early combat levels, so many skilling options, its nice to just blast trough a bunch of levels and tasks and get your second area so you aren't even stuck there for long
Kandarin definitely has its place. It's not bad to have lighter regions in the mix and this is one of those. I actually like recommending it as a pickup along with W/T because of that. Most people don't really want 3 heavy regions cause you just burnout before you complete everything.
First leagues, I’ve watched all your videos so far. I’ve played OS pretty religiously this year and even done some raids. These guides have been great for me having no idea what leagues is prior!

Took Kandarin last year. Don’t regret it, but not taking it this year. Definitely ticks off a lot of skilling boxes, but it’s got limited usefulness. If there’s anything similar to Trickster this time around, Ardy Knights are chill af, and don’t forget about the Hero npcs … more xp and they drop supplies as well as coins.

@YewJackOSRS With the right inventory strategy, the Chomp grind isn’t so bad. 20-24 Ogre bellows (depending on if you want Stam pots in your invy). Using the Ogre Comp bow (after Zogre Flesh Eaters) and Mith or better Brutal arrows. You can easily have 9-12 toads dropped as bait and depending on diary level, have multiple chompies spawn. I generally hate tick intensive stuff, but killing chompies is one of the few that I enjoy. It’s pretty easy to kill 250-300+ an hour, making it a much more reasonable grind … not saying that I’d chase this pet during leagues though.
@@SkillingNChilling Ya. I very much disliked the monkey laps more than the chompies -- it's kind of a similar feeling trying to farm duke in fremmy. The skilling part just can't be sped up at all so it ends up being more time consuming than I care for in leagues.
@@YewJackOSRS Yeah, I feel ya on trying to farm Duke. Whole bunch of skilling related rng things, or skilling aspects of Duke & so forth could use a boost during leagues. Didn’t enjoy my 3 hour imcando hammer grind last league, so anything that is time consuming without a big reward will make me think twice going forward with it during future leagues.
As an old player and veteran leagues gamer, it's *very* tragic how low Kandarin has fallen. People who have played previous leagues remember how broken and absolutely S-tier it used to be, but man, recent updates just have not been nice to it. Mage rebalance nerfing the jewelry's importance, the addition of more content in all other regions, the introduction of Varly as an entire *extra* region, the existence of ancient prayers making piety obsolete, *and* the confirmation that dwarf cannon will be auto-complete with Asgarnia this time around just makes Kandarin an absolute troll pick now. I'm quite conflicted as to how I feel about this... On one hand, I'm saddened and appalled to see the former king so thoroughly thrown into the dumpster, but on the other, it feels nice to have a meta shakeup as we're all quite tired of constantly picking it in previous leagues. 🤔
I'll say in past leagues I didn't love taking it as a pick. I just don't enjoy the content in this area all that much -- which is certainly a personal thing. Removal of the more grindy tasks (like monkey laps) does help. I think it's generally better to not feel like you have to pick any specific region. Nerfing the jewelry helped with that for sure. Giving every raid access to the weapons is in that same line of thought. I like those type of changes. Kandarin, unfortunately, hasn't had much in the way of positive content updates in the last few years. We got the weaker charge staff but that isn't anything huge. So it has suffered from what I'd call content creep. There will always have to be a worst region. Idk if Kandarin deserves to be in that list. Ideal world all the regions would have solid/good reasons to pick (and not that it doesn't for some -- I just don't feel that way). Echo boss could change that but I'm pretty doubtful just because of that lack of content compared to other regions.
early quest exp was big for me last league by taking kandarin. Waterfall, fight arena etc... massive early gains got me way ahead of my buddies that went asgarnia first
How do you weight tasks/points when judging an area? Could easier tasks make a region worth taking despite having weaker BiS gear? If my main priority is getting dragon cup, how important is min/maxing endgame gear? Is it crazy to pick regions based of their tasks rather than their gear?
No not at all. If the goal is dragon cup then I'd say prioritize content that you enjoy doing for sure. I value a well balanced region. Lots of skilling options, decent spread of gear, plus tasks that are relatively easy to do. Kandarin doesn't meet all of those. Historically Kandarin also had trash tasks (monkey laps and chompies were just tedious, and especially with monkey laps it took quite a while). In general though, because Kandarin doesn't have much in the way of high level pvm -- it will tend to have easier tasks when compared to something like Asgarnia for example. I actually do recommend people pick up 1 lighter or support region in their spread. This is because I've made the mistake of picking 3 jam packed regions and you just don't have the time to do everything unless you can play the game 12+ hours a day. This is why on my 2nd account I ended up taking Wilderness. Great support region. I think Kandarin can support any build though probably strongest with mage. If you're looking for skilling options I'd probably look towards Zeah or Varlamore. Those areas cover a wider range of skills. Zeah would be more late game tasks with raids. Varlamore will be mostly mid game content minus colosseum and debatably Vardorvis.
Very good points. Yeah I'm looking at for sure Varlamore and maybe Wildy and no idea for my 3rd. Maybe desert but gotta see what all the relics and echo bosses will be.
@@Drollls what I recommend, is check the task list, show only 1 zone at a time and check the 200-400 tasks, and count how many of those you cannot realistically do.(like all raid combat achievement, or the high kc), then remove the points from the zone total. It might give you a good idea of what zone to go to. Also keep in mind the weapons and gear you get in your zone, cause even with relics, some boss will destroy you very quickly, or will takes forever(Say corp, Nightmare), or you will just never get drops(say Nex), unless you are an OSRS pro ;) What I did last league(but I had my combat choice in mind) and got Dragon with still a whole bunch of boss kc/drops tasks left to do(Had Fren/Desert/Asg, but still 0 duke and vorkath kills..nor didn't get a raid purple at all...)
Digging around in the discord I couldn't find this anywhere from one of the Mods, so not sure if it's true. The only thing I was able to find was from Hooti and what he said was "oh also - your silly little hunter crossbow - u can get it without K". I thought I remembered someone talking about it being available in a similar way to a bone crossbow in dmm, but I can't find that again either. Think it is a bit up in the air still right now. It would make sense for it to be in varla since the sunlight crossbow and all, but I guess we'll have to see if it is more widely available or not.
I’m gonna be setting up my alt here for sure if trickster makes a return. Get treasure seeker and set him up to AFK steal from gnomes, paladins and heroes here for a ton of clues. Only helps one skill but for an alt I think this is an underrated option to get points fast with clues
True. I probably could have mentioned more of the high level NPCs that can be pickpocketed. I guess they don't exactly have an individually notable drop so it didn't cross my mind but if we get something similar to trickster that makes a lot of sense. They have said we aren't getting any of the same relics, so I do wonder what all they'll do this year. If it'll be totally different or slight tweaks (relic gives trickster but is called something like.... tricky boi -- lol).

I was melee and picked kandarin last time for piety and occult for my off style in raids. Now occult isn't disproportionately good anymore after magic rebalance so not sure if region is worth while. Especially if ruinous powers come back.
@@nefereous9082 You still the combined power of the necklace and bracelet but ya. Even as a mage pick it doesn't feel quite as strong as it once did. I also hope for some other prayer options. Ruinous powers or otherwise. Might get god alignments this year.

You'll have access to box traps at the start; no quest req on them. Can buy them from lumby general store and go straight to soul isle if you wanted to catch grey chins.
Btw don’t know if it’s changed this year but you can’t use the mage guild shop in kan since hand in the sand requires asga totally weird but desert was my one rune shop last year
Oh you're right. That does suck lol. I had that problem on my snowflake account for awhile too. You need the like magic shop lady in port sarim to complete the quest.
I mean it seems good if you need a trident for Nylos at tob (and have no interest in doing desert, especially toa), and then you can also access amulet of rancor for fast boss kills. Also the majority of tasks are pretty chill to complete, especially with worst of the monkey lap tasks gone. Otherwise what else is a better alternative to Asgarnia + Morytonia as melee?
I’m V M ? (Maybe F or A) melee Varlamore is gonna be fun for melee. Bloodmoon armor is easy to grab early game with dupe protection and has the possibility to go crazy with relics due to its set effect Var PVM is all melee based so it’s going to feel great camping them as opposed to others like Kraken where you can’t melee
As much as I hate on K, it is still a valid region pick. I do encourage people to take at least 1 supporting region so you have enough time to focus on the content you want. I like K + M as a combo kind of. It's cool to get the rancor and pick up the prayer. In a vacuum, I'm not sure it's worth it for that alone. If you need the mage weapon slot on your off style then I get it. You don't exactly have a lot of options there so Kandarin starts to make a lot of sense. We are going to get echo drops though, and I bet another area will fill that gap, so that might become a less appealing prospect once we start getting more info. As others are suggesting, I like Varlamore as a pick -- though in tandem with Morytania it does feel a bit wasted. Moons vs barrows feels like a lot of overlap in the gear. If it's just about a charged mage weapon, I'd almost say pick up the Wilderness. Sure, you don't get the rancor ammy, but I think the Wildy is a more fun region to get an early boost and then be done with it come late game. You'll also end up with the thamrons sceptre (or however that's spelled lol).
I'm pretty sure you can get the full spread with F + K + A. Dragon gloves from the barrows chest will be tough though unless they change how that quest works for leagues.
Last leagues was my first. I wanted to at least say I'd done it once. I confirmed the following things. I'm gladly a main for life. Outside of a fancy cup that will sit in poh for hardly anyone, if any to see and the other cosmetics that points will give you that I'll gladly spend money on. I'l gladly spend my 2 months on main game grinding to max stats and bossing. Hope everyone enjoys it that wants to. I'll see you back in main game when leagues is a month deep.
I dont play main game anymore, grinding 200 hours for a number to go up just doens’t feel right anymore. Leagues just fixes that for me. For few weeks a year i get to go hard

Kandarin lowkey has almost all the low tier charged staves/wands for magic.. also, Red/black chins access was what I was missing from picking trickster.. only having access the grey ones on soul war island.(which was at best 2m ish/hour with tickmanip I think? not great for the 50m task)
Ya. Kinda sucks that the best early magic weapons are stuck here lol. I'm hoping with their rebalancing on grindy tasks that we won't see 50m tasks anymore. Maybe bring that cap down to like 25m or 35m instead.
@@YewJackOSRS I dunno, the 50m xp tasks were great league points to seek, and it gave more impact for early relics to be good for longer. (And give more regret for not picking them :D). 50m is a good number overall, it also gives more impact to certain zones, for their skilling methods. But yeah, last league, mage without kandarin meant, all normal spellbook auto cast(with 1 sec delay when changing target), or maybe ancient with desert. I didn't want to pick kandarin because of the heavy amount of points into ape atoll, chumpy and BA, but the lack of charged staff was really felt the whole time.
@@jawstrock2215 I think if they did like 25m/35m (as opposed to 35m/50m xp tasks) you still get that benefit but it's just a bit less grind time. That's kind of what I'm envisioning. Shifting away from the xp tasks seems like a step too far, but I guess we'll see. And ya, that's exactly my problem with Kandarin. It feels almost like a forced mage pick. A little less so with the rebalance, but it is still a really important region compared to others besides maybe Zeah (but Zeah has better offerings all around imo).

I^m pretty sure they didn't say the hunter crossbow is available to everyone. they said it's available without K. I think it will be sold in the hunters guild. because the point is mostly that you are able to make a sunlight hunter crossbow in varlamore. at least that's how I interpret it
That would make sense. I took it more as like what they do in DMM with the bone crossbow, making it available in the varrock range shop at the start of the game. Reading back over it though, you are right. They didn't specify it to that degree. Guess we'll have to see.
I remember picking Kandarin, Fremmenik and Wilderness with magic in my first trailblazer league looool! No idea why I picked magic. ToA didn't exist back then. The only cool route was melee with KAM although Nex didn't exist either but atleast you got Bandos and defenders.
As a meelee build this year , I had thoughts to choose Kandarin , for zenites and piety, but other then that , theres not much to offer . Kraken is not for meelee , and Thermy drops to dont get anything for meelee . If some Echo boss drops somthing for meelee I reconsider and I hope they do some meelee armor here so I can not to chose A 😁
I remember someone suggesting a ranged style melee weapon to help with stuff like this. Think it'd be really cool to see something like that at one of the echo bosses. Would really allow you to focus in on one combat style but not feel bad about some of the other content like Kraken or Kree. Only time will tell.

From what I have heard and read one relic will be combat based and it will make only one combat better, but I think that combat masteries will make better all 3 combat styles if you choose them that way. Just like berserker relic did last year. But maybe it wont only Jagex knows 😁
@@catsgonyan Ya. It's not THAT big of a difference compared to picking up full str gear or a good weapon. You can get away with not having it though it is kind of unfortunate for ease of switching prayers. Probably only a slight annoyance though lol.
well you still get 15% boost from normal prayers, piety is only 10% extra defence and 8% extra strength. Sure 8% strength is a reasonable boost but it's not worth picking a region for. The full 23% boost might justify a region pick but not 8%. People forget that the lower lvl prayers exist.
They have said no relics will be exactly the same, so we may not see the other prayer book -- but I too reeeeally hope they allow picking up a good melee prayer (or unlocking this one) via another means.
Ya. There are some combos that can utilize Kandarin effectively. I also recommend it as a complimentary region when folks are picking 1-2 heavy PvM regions. In a vacuum certain regions can be bad, but as a combo it's hard to call any one region bad during league. K/T/W would be an absolutely terrible combo imo, but even still -- someone who just wants easier points without lots of high level pvm may love that.
That's the only choice I can really jive with. I still dislike the need to take Kandarin for the mage jewelry but it does need something going for it lol.
Yep, true. I guess I did only call out the hasta. Z, K, A isn't a bad combo I suppose. Get a pretty healthy spread of gear for any build type. I wouldn't necessarily take this strictly for the DH lance, but a nice pick up if it fits your leagues plans sort of deal.
@@Nebesus Ya. Kandarin's strongest style is Mage imo. Z + K gives you really strong mage stuffs. Ancestral, Occult, Tormented Bracelet, Shadow. Last region pickup could be Wildy or Frem for another slot. Probably Frem for ring + imbued heart upgrade. Uhg. Recommending Frem. What have you done to me lol.

Yep. That's basically where I'm at. Think mage builds still get some value out of this but other pvm focused builds not really. Mage could probably skip this and still alright though post the combat rework. 10% is still a lot to lose buuut leagues power may make up for that.
Ya. It may change if the combat masteries do improve all 3 combat styles because you'll then benefit more from picking a variety of things. We'll have to see on that. In previous leagues I was a big proponent of pick 2 regions for your main style and then 1 support region so you have more time to focus on the first 2.
Areas like Kandarin are the reason why I can't stand the 3 area locked crap. It has so much stuff that would very much compliment other areas, but as it stands, its really not worth picking. It's been 3 selections since the first TB, and now there are 2 more areas since then and its still 3 selections. Areas like this, frem, and tir are just gonna see practically no love, even if the content they provide is fun, purely because everything they have to offer aren't bis except the jewelry, which are tiny buffs. For example, if I want to pick a ranger, Tiranwwn is HUUUUGE... unless you want bis armor (desert) bis weapon pre raids (asg), and a good utility zone/bis back and good early gear (varlamore)... now Tir and kandarin are useless. It hurts a little. Don't misunderstand. I don't hate area locking. I just hate that after adding 2 more zones, it's still 3. A 4th alone would just make it much more fun for me. That's just my opinion though, and I know people who play outside of leagues are fine with 3. I just only play during leagues and would appreciate a larger variety of content and an extra little damage boost. It's seasonal. It's not like we bring anything to the main game.
I agree. It's an element of feature creep really. Part of the fun of area locking is limiting choices, but at the same time if there are more choices it starts to feel more limited. While I'm not sure if 4 area choices is the play a few folks have mentioned allowing a choice of starting region. I think that is a nice middle ground. You may end up dropping Misthalin + Karamja so you can grab something like Kandarin/Wildy/Tiran without feeling bad about it.
@@YewJackOSRS Picking a different starting region isn't what i'd call a middleground, but it would be better than its current setup. The main issue for me comes from the fact that if you still have content after the first 3 weeks, you had to really not be trying.
I just don't love it. I think the melee options are weaker than other areas (for Kandarin). Ya, the prayer.... In general, I dislike that the prayer is locked here. I also dislike the other two are locked to Zeah. I think they should all be more available, but I digress. Now as a support region or balancing it out with the charged staves, makes more sense to me.
M melee will be using bloodfury most of the time...making rancor/torture kinda moot. So you're really just getting piety. Plus bosses in K aren't the best for melee.
Same for me. I was trying my best to give the region something lol. I personally think Karambwans take care of fishing/cooking with just the starting area (even if you have to go the annoying route for an agi potion to complete the quest.
Yaaa.... It's a race to the bottom between K/T lol. Making them a combo makes a lot of sense to me actually. T very much lacks mage gear so K would help balance that out.
Or give Gnome stronghold also to Tiranwnn and add the rest of Kandarin to the 2 starter areas because what's left then? Some farming patches, barbarian fishing, Piety and Smokedevils.

Or just split Kandarin completely in 2: give everything south of the legend's, ranging and fishing guild to Tiranwnn. And everything north to Fremmenik. All these regions are too weak right now. That way Tiranwnn get's all the powered staves + zenyte jewellry + occult + full western provinces diary. A truly powerful region for both magic and ranged. Fremmy get's Piety and it should get a mythical cape to access the Myths guild teleport. Right now it only has a ring going for it. Adding bis melee prayer might be enough to justify picking it.

@@SkillingNChilling Ya. I very much disliked the monkey laps more than the chompies -- it's kind of a similar feeling trying to farm duke in fremmy. The skilling part just can't be sped up at all so it ends up being more time consuming than I care for in leagues.

Didn’t enjoy my 3 hour imcando hammer grind last league, so anything that is time consuming without a big reward will make me think twice going forward with it during future leagues.
As an old player and veteran leagues gamer, it's *very* tragic how low Kandarin has fallen. People who have played previous leagues remember how broken and absolutely S-tier it used to be, but man, recent updates just have not been nice to it. Mage rebalance nerfing the jewelry's importance, the addition of more content in all other regions, the introduction of Varly as an entire *extra* region, the existence of ancient prayers making piety obsolete, *and* the confirmation that dwarf cannon will be auto-complete with Asgarnia this time around just makes Kandarin an absolute troll pick now.
I'm quite conflicted as to how I feel about this... On one hand, I'm saddened and appalled to see the former king so thoroughly thrown into the dumpster, but on the other, it feels nice to have a meta shakeup as we're all quite tired of constantly picking it in previous leagues. 🤔
I'll say in past leagues I didn't love taking it as a pick. I just don't enjoy the content in this area all that much -- which is certainly a personal thing. Removal of the more grindy tasks (like monkey laps) does help.
I think it's generally better to not feel like you have to pick any specific region. Nerfing the jewelry helped with that for sure. Giving every raid access to the weapons is in that same line of thought. I like those type of changes. Kandarin, unfortunately, hasn't had much in the way of positive content updates in the last few years. We got the weaker charge staff but that isn't anything huge. So it has suffered from what I'd call content creep.
There will always have to be a worst region. Idk if Kandarin deserves to be in that list. Ideal world all the regions would have solid/good reasons to pick (and not that it doesn't for some -- I just don't feel that way). Echo boss could change that but I'm pretty doubtful just because of that lack of content compared to other regions.

early quest exp was big for me last league by taking kandarin. Waterfall, fight arena etc... massive early gains got me way ahead of my buddies that went asgarnia first

How do you weight tasks/points when judging an area? Could easier tasks make a region worth taking despite having weaker BiS gear?

No not at all. If the goal is dragon cup then I'd say prioritize content that you enjoy doing for sure.
I value a well balanced region. Lots of skilling options, decent spread of gear, plus tasks that are relatively easy to do. Kandarin doesn't meet all of those. Historically Kandarin also had trash tasks (monkey laps and chompies were just tedious, and especially with monkey laps it took quite a while). In general though, because Kandarin doesn't have much in the way of high level pvm -- it will tend to have easier tasks when compared to something like Asgarnia for example.
I actually do recommend people pick up 1 lighter or support region in their spread. This is because I've made the mistake of picking 3 jam packed regions and you just don't have the time to do everything unless you can play the game 12+ hours a day. This is why on my 2nd account I ended up taking Wilderness. Great support region. I think Kandarin can support any build though probably strongest with mage. If you're looking for skilling options I'd probably look towards Zeah or Varlamore. Those areas cover a wider range of skills. Zeah would be more late game tasks with raids. Varlamore will be mostly mid game content minus colosseum and debatably Vardorvis.
Very good points. Yeah I'm looking at for sure Varlamore and maybe Wildy and no idea for my 3rd. Maybe desert but gotta see what all the relics and echo bosses will be.
@@Drollls what I recommend, is check the task list, show only 1 zone at a time and check the 200-400 tasks, and count how many of those you cannot realistically do.(like all raid combat achievement, or the high kc), then remove the points from the zone total. It might give you a good idea of what zone to go to.
Also keep in mind the weapons and gear you get in your zone, cause even with relics, some boss will destroy you very quickly, or will takes forever(Say corp, Nightmare), or you will just never get drops(say Nex), unless you are an OSRS pro ;)
What I did last league(but I had my combat choice in mind) and got Dragon with still a whole bunch of boss kc/drops tasks left to do(Had Fren/Desert/Asg, but still 0 duke and vorkath kills..nor didn't get a raid purple at all...)
I think they actually said that the Hunter Crossbow will be available at a charter ship in Varlamore, but not all areas, if I remember correctly.
Digging around in the discord I couldn't find this anywhere from one of the Mods, so not sure if it's true. The only thing I was able to find was from Hooti and what he said was "oh also - your silly little hunter crossbow - u can get it without K".
I thought I remembered someone talking about it being available in a similar way to a bone crossbow in dmm, but I can't find that again either. Think it is a bit up in the air still right now.
It would make sense for it to be in varla since the sunlight crossbow and all, but I guess we'll have to see if it is more widely available or not.

Get treasure seeker and set him up to AFK steal from gnomes, paladins and heroes here for a ton of clues. Only helps one skill but for an alt I think this is an underrated option to get points fast with clues
True. I probably could have mentioned more of the high level NPCs that can be pickpocketed. I guess they don't exactly have an individually notable drop so it didn't cross my mind but if we get something similar to trickster that makes a lot of sense.
They have said we aren't getting any of the same relics, so I do wonder what all they'll do this year. If it'll be totally different or slight tweaks (relic gives trickster but is called something like.... tricky boi -- lol).

I was melee and picked kandarin last time for piety and occult for my off style in raids. Now occult isn't disproportionately good anymore after magic rebalance so not sure if region is worth while. Especially if ruinous powers come back.

You'll have access to box traps at the start; no quest req on them. Can buy them from lumby general store and go straight to soul isle if you wanted to catch grey chins.
Btw don’t know if it’s changed this year but you can’t use the mage guild shop in kan since hand in the sand requires asga totally weird but desert was my one rune shop last year
Oh you're right. That does suck lol. I had that problem on my snowflake account for awhile too. You need the like magic shop lady in port sarim to complete the quest.

I mean it seems good if you need a trident for Nylos at tob (and have no interest in doing desert, especially toa), and then you can also access amulet of rancor for fast boss kills. Also the majority of tasks are pretty chill to complete, especially with worst of the monkey lap tasks gone.
Otherwise what else is a better alternative to Asgarnia + Morytonia as melee?

Varlamore is gonna be fun for melee. Bloodmoon armor is easy to grab early game with dupe protection and has the possibility to go crazy with relics due to its set effect
Var PVM is all melee based so it’s going to feel great camping them as opposed to others like Kraken where you can’t melee
V is important as bloodmoon armor is a nice progression. Im not sure if the set effect hits one tick yet tho
As much as I hate on K, it is still a valid region pick. I do encourage people to take at least 1 supporting region so you have enough time to focus on the content you want.
I like K + M as a combo kind of. It's cool to get the rancor and pick up the prayer. In a vacuum, I'm not sure it's worth it for that alone. If you need the mage weapon slot on your off style then I get it. You don't exactly have a lot of options there so Kandarin starts to make a lot of sense. We are going to get echo drops though, and I bet another area will fill that gap, so that might become a less appealing prospect once we start getting more info.
As others are suggesting, I like Varlamore as a pick -- though in tandem with Morytania it does feel a bit wasted. Moons vs barrows feels like a lot of overlap in the gear. If it's just about a charged mage weapon, I'd almost say pick up the Wilderness. Sure, you don't get the rancor ammy, but I think the Wildy is a more fun region to get an early boost and then be done with it come late game. You'll also end up with the thamrons sceptre (or however that's spelled lol).
Kandarin is definitley a support pick that boosts other region choices in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure you can get the full spread with F + K + A. Dragon gloves from the barrows chest will be tough though unless they change how that quest works for leagues.
Last leagues was my first. I wanted to at least say I'd done it once. I confirmed the following things. I'm gladly a main for life. Outside of a fancy cup that will sit in poh for hardly anyone, if any to see and the other cosmetics that points will give you that I'll gladly spend money on. I'l gladly spend my 2 months on main game grinding to max stats and bossing. Hope everyone enjoys it that wants to. I'll see you back in main game when leagues is a month deep.

Kandarin lowkey has almost all the low tier charged staves/wands for magic..
also, Red/black chins access was what I was missing from picking trickster.. only having access the grey ones on soul war island.(which was at best 2m ish/hour with tickmanip I think? not great for the 50m task)

I'm hoping with their rebalancing on grindy tasks that we won't see 50m tasks anymore. Maybe bring that cap down to like 25m or 35m instead.
@@YewJackOSRS I dunno, the 50m xp tasks were great league points to seek, and it gave more impact for early relics to be good for longer. (And give more regret for not picking them :D). 50m is a good number overall, it also gives more impact to certain zones, for their skilling methods.
But yeah, last league, mage without kandarin meant, all normal spellbook auto cast(with 1 sec delay when changing target), or maybe ancient with desert. I didn't want to pick kandarin because of the heavy amount of points into ape atoll, chumpy and BA, but the lack of charged staff was really felt the whole time.
@@jawstrock2215 I think if they did like 25m/35m (as opposed to 35m/50m xp tasks) you still get that benefit but it's just a bit less grind time. That's kind of what I'm envisioning. Shifting away from the xp tasks seems like a step too far, but I guess we'll see.
And ya, that's exactly my problem with Kandarin. It feels almost like a forced mage pick. A little less so with the rebalance, but it is still a really important region compared to others besides maybe Zeah (but Zeah has better offerings all around imo).

I took it more as like what they do in DMM with the bone crossbow, making it available in the varrock range shop at the start of the game. Reading back over it though, you are right. They didn't specify it to that degree. Guess we'll have to see.

I remember picking Kandarin, Fremmenik and Wilderness with magic in my first trailblazer league looool! No idea why I picked magic. ToA didn't exist back then. The only cool route was melee with KAM although Nex didn't exist either but atleast you got Bandos and defenders.

As a meelee build this year , I had thoughts to choose Kandarin , for zenites and piety, but other then that , theres not much to offer . Kraken is not for meelee , and Thermy drops to dont get anything for meelee . If some Echo boss drops somthing for meelee I reconsider and I hope they do some meelee armor here so I can not to chose A 😁
I remember someone suggesting a ranged style melee weapon to help with stuff like this. Think it'd be really cool to see something like that at one of the echo bosses. Would really allow you to focus in on one combat style but not feel bad about some of the other content like Kraken or Kree. Only time will tell.

From what I have heard and read one relic will be combat based and it will make only one combat better, but I think that combat masteries will make better all 3 combat styles if you choose them that way. Just like berserker relic did last year. But maybe it wont only Jagex knows 😁

@@catsgonyan Ya. It's not THAT big of a difference compared to picking up full str gear or a good weapon. You can get away with not having it though it is kind of unfortunate for ease of switching prayers. Probably only a slight annoyance though lol.
well you still get 15% boost from normal prayers, piety is only 10% extra defence and 8% extra strength. Sure 8% strength is a reasonable boost but it's not worth picking a region for. The full 23% boost might justify a region pick but not 8%. People forget that the lower lvl prayers exist.

They have said no relics will be exactly the same, so we may not see the other prayer book -- but I too reeeeally hope they allow picking up a good melee prayer (or unlocking this one) via another means.

Ya. There are some combos that can utilize Kandarin effectively. I also recommend it as a complimentary region when folks are picking 1-2 heavy PvM regions.
In a vacuum certain regions can be bad, but as a combo it's hard to call any one region bad during league. K/T/W would be an absolutely terrible combo imo, but even still -- someone who just wants easier points without lots of high level pvm may love that.
for my mage, Kandarin is an easy pick. Two BIS items to accompany my lovely shadow. BIS ranged amulet and 2nd BIS melee amulet.
That's the only choice I can really jive with. I still dislike the need to take Kandarin for the mage jewelry but it does need something going for it lol.
For mage gear, I guess you can add Iban's staff if they take F or T. lol

Yep, true. I guess I did only call out the hasta. Z, K, A isn't a bad combo I suppose. Get a pretty healthy spread of gear for any build type. I wouldn't necessarily take this strictly for the DH lance, but a nice pick up if it fits your leagues plans sort of deal.

@@Nebesus Ya. Kandarin's strongest style is Mage imo. Z + K gives you really strong mage stuffs. Ancestral, Occult, Tormented Bracelet, Shadow. Last region pickup could be Wildy or Frem for another slot. Probably Frem for ring + imbued heart upgrade.

Yep. That's basically where I'm at. Think mage builds still get some value out of this but other pvm focused builds not really. Mage could probably skip this and still alright though post the combat rework. 10% is still a lot to lose buuut leagues power may make up for that.
Honestly feels so bad to only be able to pick 3 areas when there are more areas to pick from, all 3rd picks seem so mediocre anyway

In previous leagues I was a big proponent of pick 2 regions for your main style and then 1 support region so you have more time to focus on the first 2.

Areas like Kandarin are the reason why I can't stand the 3 area locked crap. It has so much stuff that would very much compliment other areas, but as it stands, its really not worth picking. It's been 3 selections since the first TB, and now there are 2 more areas since then and its still 3 selections. Areas like this, frem, and tir are just gonna see practically no love, even if the content they provide is fun, purely because everything they have to offer aren't bis except the jewelry, which are tiny buffs. For example, if I want to pick a ranger, Tiranwwn is HUUUUGE... unless you want bis armor (desert) bis weapon pre raids (asg), and a good utility zone/bis back and good early gear (varlamore)... now Tir and kandarin are useless. It hurts a little. Don't misunderstand. I don't hate area locking. I just hate that after adding 2 more zones, it's still 3. A 4th alone would just make it much more fun for me. That's just my opinion though, and I know people who play outside of leagues are fine with 3. I just only play during leagues and would appreciate a larger variety of content and an extra little damage boost. It's seasonal. It's not like we bring anything to the main game.
I agree. It's an element of feature creep really. Part of the fun of area locking is limiting choices, but at the same time if there are more choices it starts to feel more limited. While I'm not sure if 4 area choices is the play a few folks have mentioned allowing a choice of starting region. I think that is a nice middle ground. You may end up dropping Misthalin + Karamja so you can grab something like Kandarin/Wildy/Tiran without feeling bad about it.
@@YewJackOSRS Picking a different starting region isn't what i'd call a middleground, but it would be better than its current setup. The main issue for me comes from the fact that if you still have content after the first 3 weeks, you had to really not be trying.

I just don't love it. I think the melee options are weaker than other areas (for Kandarin). Ya, the prayer.... In general, I dislike that the prayer is locked here. I also dislike the other two are locked to Zeah. I think they should all be more available, but I digress.
Now as a support region or balancing it out with the charged staves, makes more sense to me.
M melee will be using bloodfury most of the time...making rancor/torture kinda moot. So you're really just getting piety. Plus bosses in K aren't the best for melee.

Same for me. I was trying my best to give the region something lol. I personally think Karambwans take care of fishing/cooking with just the starting area (even if you have to go the annoying route for an agi potion to complete the quest.

They should just give the Eagle's peak area with the trident to Tiranwnn and make Kandarin + Karamja or Misthalin the starter region.
Or give Gnome stronghold also to Tiranwnn and add the rest of Kandarin to the 2 starter areas because what's left then? Some farming patches, barbarian fishing, Piety and Smokedevils.

Or just split Kandarin completely in 2: give everything south of the legend's, ranging and fishing guild to Tiranwnn. And everything north to Fremmenik. All these regions are too weak right now. That way Tiranwnn get's all the powered staves + zenyte jewellry + occult + full western provinces diary. A truly powerful region for both magic and ranged. Fremmy get's Piety and it should get a mythical cape to access the Myths guild teleport. Right now it only has a ring going for it. Adding bis melee prayer might be enough to justify picking it.
