Please can someone explain wtf happened on ScrapBrain2 at the end? Firstly, why was the floor missing? Is that just because he used a glitch to get there? And what would have happened if he'd landed on that ledge he was aiming for (after accidentally crouching). Sounds like what actually happened was better than he could have hoped for, but it doesn't seem any quicker than what usually happens at the end of that level. So why was he so happy?
If you land anywhere other than the place in the run it is a softlock. Normally there's frame perfect positions to look for to make sure it works, but ended up having to get really lucky.

The going through walls was known back then, they had magazines saying about those short cuts. The ones I haven't seen before is sliding about in the air, that looked a bit freaky.

hihi, on speedrun.com there is a list of all the consoles it is released on that are allowed on that leaderboard. Bare in mind my tutorial is mostly all the absolute hardest strats so it will be very difficult to immediately start with them. it's true, with in-game-time the pauses are not accounted for. The leaderboard also keeps track of real-time-minus-time-bonus, where pauses are accounted for, but using that as the main timing method opens up all kinds of other platform-difference difficulties.
@@phozonn I see, that makes sense. So the quick micro-pauses you make for the "wall-clips(?)", which I assume are done to make the directional inputs easier, also don't count towards the time? I was just surprised because towards the end of this run (SB2 - when you fall into the void leading to stage 3) you paused for such a long time (due to a perceived mistake) that I wondered how on earth it could still be a WR (as the title of the video suggested) 😅 But thanks for the explanation!

The timer just uses the in-game time for each level. This is how everyone on the leaderboard is sorted. If the bonus screens were counted then it would be faster overall to wait during the level and finish slower, for less time-bonus to make the bonus screen shorter. As a secondary method, we also time real-time but with the timer automatically pausing for only the frames where the time bonus is counting down
I believe i have the euro pal record for completing first level in 21 seconds. Unless anyone knows better? I have vid on my channel from Games World 1993 as proof.
@@MarkMorten-du4ep Pal is exactly the same as ntsc except runs 5/6ths slower, so the same times are just considered marginally easier. There's not a lot of history of specifically pal, although always interesting when vids like this crop up for history of the game in general
I'd messed up the precise movement to ensure clipping back in bounds (on the left side of robotnik's laser). And so was sure I'd now softlock/fall out of bounds and have to die. Very lucky

If you get fast enough to move through the left level boundary then you appear on the right level boundary. Then the camera has to catch up
