    Scott Morgan is the lead singer and the Rationals were a great group who also played at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit. Detroit was a great place for rock in the 60's and as they say, you had to be there. I still think that this is the best version of a classic song.

      newhotman1001 OMG. I used to go to the Grande all the time. I saw them there also not to mention MC5, Clapton, The Who Country Joe, on and on,and on. John Sebastian used to sit in the corner and smoke weed. Good times. Detroit was music heaven

    Give Otis his due and Aretha hers as well, but this is the best version. Awesome bass line. This is Detroit rock-n-roll to the roots.

    • @frederickrodriguez457
      @frederickrodriguez457 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree 100%. They should have the recognition they deserve. I just look at this version as the ROCK version and Aretha's as the SOUL version or the Motown Records version. This one is my favorite for sure.

    This is great!....I was nine years old and they reminded me of the 'Dave Clark Five'.
    When Aretha did the cover for this I thought.....wait a minute.....I've heard this before but something was a bit different.
    One's culture determines which version is more appreciated and I spent my early childhood listening to Motown and rhythm and blues but I was a natural born rocker so I like this version better. However, I dig the soulful rhythms of Aretha's version.

    ey...I did the graphic for their record back in A2... still one of the real forgotten classics of the day!.I was in a punky detroit basement garage band and we tried to cover this stuff...I hated scott for a few weeks after he dogged my girlfriend,okay, I won't mention her name at the chessmate club...i think it was a Sam Lay and the Mojo Men show...she was a sexy sksnk anyway, but 45 years later? ...I'm still doin crunches...and scott is still the man!

    This is not an Arethra Franklin cover.. Get the record straight. Besides the fact that it's an Otis Redding song, The Rationals released it 1966, Franklin 67. Jerry Wexler thought the song had potential as a cross-over hit for Aretha after hearing The Ratioinals version... Detroit Rocks!

  • @pepsiprincess48033
    @pepsiprincess48033 11 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    ABSOLUTELY....... I NEVER cared for A.FRANKLIN'S version of this song. My sister and I saw the RATIONALS at Livonia Mall here in Detroit back in 1967 and I had the single. I always hated hearing how this was ARETHA'S song, because I KNEW better..... THANK YOU FOR YOU TUBE, I get to hear this again!!!
