The reason the older lady opened the door is because her older sister always made sacrifices to watch over others and the people in the car didn't appreciate her sacrifice. The other sister was nodding that she wasn't going to make it because if they tried to help her they wouldn't have time to close the door. 😭 The actor who plays the COO of Stallion almost didn't take the part because the character was so terrible of a person. I am glad he did because he played him so well. Everyone did such a great job in this movie. I had a great time watching you both react to this movie.

To this day I insist that the older lady who opened the door is worse than the selfish COO. The COO was only looking out for himself. But the other people in the train car were right to at least be worried that the others were infected somehow. If she wants to kill herself fine, but she killed dozens of others out of spite.

I have no sympathy for the people who just went along with someone because he was important in the business world. I think that is also what the movie was trying to say about them. The movie clearly had a point of view about class issues.

shawdiee, same here. and damn that businessman. I've got good news. God is good because He gives His blessings to everyone, whether they be good or bad. but everyone has at least, told a lie, or stolen something in their life. and that makes them sinners, and God cannot stand one iota of sin in His presence, because He is holy. so God has to punish the sinners in hell, because God is just. but God is also love and He made a way for some to be saved from His wrath. here are the steps:
      1. admit that you're a sinner and are lost.
      2. realize that the penalty of sin is death (hell).
      3. believe that Jesus (who is God in the flesh) died on the cross, was buried, then rose from the grave, to pay the penalty for man's past, present, and future sins.
      4. trust Christ alone as your Savior, and not on your own good deeds to get you to heaven (nor a combination of faith and your self-righteous works).
      5. pray to God NOW that you're following these steps because if you die before making this decision, it's too late, and you'll 🔥🔥😰

In Asian cultures, before a couple becomes "a couple" they have a formalized "confession" that they do. One party will say to the other "I like you" and then the person who hears that then has the choice of accepting or rejecting the confession. This doesn't have to be immediate, so in some ways it's like a mini-proposal, you could say. In this case, it appears that the girl made the confession, but the boy initially wasn't terribly interested in return. The girl's obviously cute and popular among the boys of the school, however, so all the friends are chanting "accept her!" to encourage him to formally date her anyway.
    ***
I'm told by Korean speakers that the little girl Su-An speaks in formal mode to Soek-Woo throughout the movie, and it's not until the very end when she's screaming for him to not leave her that she finally "goes informal" -- so essentially it's been "Hello Father" the whole movie, but at the end it's "Daddy don't go!" so it hits Koreans a bit harder to as it shows that they've finally bonded more closely as a family.

Very good movie with a strong female protagonist with good charcter development with a star cast. A sequel to Alita Battle Angel is being discussed, now that Cameron did very well with Avatar 2.

Some things that got lost in translation:
    1) The daughter speaks to her mom on the phone casually, but to her dad in honorific Korean as if he's a stranger, that reinforces that they're not close. Think about it like she's calling him Sir instead of Daddy.
    2) Busan is a city on the southern tip of the Korean Peninsula.
    3) When the Korean War started in June 1950, N Korea invaded and S Korean forces were overwhelmed and retreated south.
    4) The SK military consolidated at Busan and they survived. So the city holds a special place in SK history as the only city that was never captured by the N Korean Army. So, Busan is historically the safest city of S Korea.
    5) The NK troops were ruthless and killed everyone in their path indiscriminately, like the zombies.
One thing I'm concerned about the coming Hollywood remake: Last train to NY. I hope they are able to put a lot of thought and meaning into it and it's not just a cash grab.

My theory about the last minutes before people turn in this movie is that whatever was on your mind is kind of amplified in those last moments. Sang-Wha's (married dude) last thoughts are of protecting his wife and the others so he even as he's turning that's what he's doing; Stallion COO dude is scared and frightened so in those last moments he's almost like a scared little boy; Seok-Woo (main character) has only been thinking about his daughter and how to keep her safe, so his last thoughts are about her and how he loved her from the first; Seok-Woo's mother harboured hatred towards her former daughter-in-law so she verbalised it in a way she would never have otherwise.

Train to Busan became my favorite zombie film when I watched it when it came out, and every time I see whether it’s thru reactions or the whole film, it makes me sob. Suan’s actress is stellar, the way this little kid made me cry my heart out! I can’t remember where I read or what exactly it said but to be able to get such a heart-wrenching performance from her the director lied to her, I think he never told her that Gong Yoo’s character was gonna die until they were meant to film the scene, or something like that. Ma Dongseok (Sanghwa, barbarian dnd character) always plays this type of roles, strong father that isn’t completely law abiding, or is tough as hell, but has a heart of gold, he killed it here, if you saw Marvel’s Eternals then that’s where you saw him.
What makes this film great imo is the fact that it’s not really about zombies, these monsters are just a storytelling tool used to narrate the human condition and how we act in moments of extreme duress, while most of us will always turn into fearful and hateful creatures, some of us will rise to the occasion and act through kindness, courage, and sacrifice. The story is about sacrifice, and the things we do for those we love and those who love us. It’s about how COO dude sacrificed everyone else for himself and still didn’t guarantee his survival, but Ma Dongseok’s and Gong Yoo’s character ensured the survival of those they loved the most through their own deaths, sacrifices they made unflinchingly.
    It’s a masterpiece of a film, truly.

If you liked Train to Busan, I recommend any of these as well, they are all made in Korea, consists of an all-star cast, great special effects, are zombie moves and are all still on Netflix atm. 1. Sweet Home series, set in urban modern setting, 2. All of us are Dead series, urban setting, based around a high school, and surrounding city, 3. Kingdom series set in 15th century, 4. Kingdom Ashin of the North, a 2 hr movie, made after Kingdom, but in storyline it precedes the events in Kingdom, explaining how the events in Kingdom started.
There is also 2 show's titled Kingdom, and Kingdom 2 with are moves made in Japan, and are not the correct ones, that are on Netflix atm as well, so don`t get them confused with the ones I listed.

It's helpful, I think, to know that South Korea is a peninsula and Busan is right at the southern tip surrounded by water, so they are traveling from Seoul up north down along the whole country to the very end where everything is still save because of how it's spreading. Busan also has a strong military presence, especially the Navy, so again, it's good for quickly creating a safe barrier. South Korea's only bordering country on land is North Korea, which it already has a militarily secure boarder with, so it's even less likely the virus would spread globally. The peninsula is also very mountainous, thus all the tunnels. I think that makes the concept work especially well. Also, they hired dancers, including some bone-breakers to play some of the featured zombies. Always hire dancers to play zombies!

-first zombie girl was probably walking through a car full of sleeping people because it's still early in the morning
-panic makes people run first think later
    -shock makes people freeze
-the infection spreads faster if it's closer to the brain

Just so you know, this movie has a sequel called Peninsula and an anime prequel called Seoul Station. I haven’t actually seen them, so I can’t say if they are good, just letting you know in case you wanna check them out. Also there was supposed to be an American remake called Last Train to New York this last April, I don’t know if that’s still happening.

2 South Koreans movie that you would need to check out that's under the radar of the western audiences:
    1) along with the Gods: the 2 worlds.
This is a supernatural story about life after death. Koreans believed the dead needs to go through levels of hell to atoned for their sins. The ending will break your heart.
    2) The Witch part 2 : the subversion.
You will get your mind blown on the 3rd act. What an amazing movie. Action Packed!
There's a lot more to reccomend you but these 2 should be plenty for now.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching your reation, you two are great. You both seem really sharp and insightful, not fake like a lot of other reactors, and with a deep love for good movies. I usually skip the after-reactions on videos like this, but you both have a lot of great stuff to add. Fantasic job on editing too, you hit all the right beats that made for a good rewatch. This movie has all the things, and I never expected to weep during a zombie movie either. Clarus' support through the brutal ending was so sweet. I'm not a dad, but that final flash of memories just tears the ol' heart out.

    I love this film
Its my favorite korean zombie film. Then its kingdom which is a zombie k drama series set in medieval korea.
Theres also an upcoming american remake called Last Train to New York which will be produced by John Woo and will be directed by an indonesian director who made a horror film on netflix, i believe.
The only way it will work is without studio interference and lack of guns..lol.
I usually dont have confidence in american remakes of korean stuff since they usually butcher it like they did for Oldboy.
If you wanna check out more korean films, heres my personal list
Oldboy (please avoid the american remake)
    #Alive
    Burning
    The Wailing
    The Host
    The handmaiden
    The Admiral: Roaring Currents
    The Call
    Unlocked
    Rampant
    Age of Shadows
    Assassination
    Kill Boksoon
    Exit
    Extreme Job
Along with the Gods: Two Worlds
The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil
The Witch part 1: Subversion and part 2: The Other One
    I Saw the Devil
    Space Sweepers
I have more on my list but i think these are all worth checking out at the moment.
These are also in no particular ranking or order. :)

There is a lot of subcontext in regard to Korean culture as a whole, from people more or less ignoring the initial signs of the infection to the views of the homeless and the importance of money. Things that other audiences don't exactly pick up on but in no way detract from the film as a whole. The fact that people ignore the girl attacking the train staff at the beginning is a commentary on just how insular people in the country tend to be regarding others and their problems.
All that said though, I am angered that Hollywood feels they need to "remake" this movie for a Western audience. This movie is so good, and it is art in and of itself with how well done it was made. I remember when it was released, it was almost an immediate turnaround announcement that it was going to be remade as a US. film. To think, you put your love and effort into making a superb film that has even the most jaded of zombie movie fans giving it praise, on top of being well-executed cinema as it is, and not even being able to bask in the initial glory of your achievement before somebody is talking about remaking all of it because it's not good enough for some audiences to enjoy. I say no, fuck that. If the remake ever gets done, I refuse to watch it on principle alone. This movie is great. Lightning in a bottle, and if somebody thinks there will ever be anything done in the same vein that is worthy of its praise as a derivative work, they're stupid.

Nobody went into watching this film expecting the Hidden Onion Village ninjas to sneak into the theater to wreck their afternoons. I love this film, and I'm so glad they pulled their punch at the very end, so it wasn't completely bleak (I couldn't handle another Martyrs or Grave of the Fireflies at that point in time).
Someone else mentioned "Goblin" as another Gong Yoo series to watch (and it's well worth it), but I'd like to toss out another that (IMO) failed to hit the bar set by both Goblin and Train to Busan, but I still think is a solid _attempt_ at a sci-fi/thriller: The Silent Sea (IIRC, it should still be on Netflix). It failed to stick the landing through no fault of the cast and crew (Gong Yoo and Bae Doona reliably crushed it, as did the rest of the cast, and the crew obviously worked damned hard on it), but rather the script itself kind of jumped the shark a bit towards the end. It definitely won't set the YT algo on fire, but it could potentially make for a fun "Here are some changes I think could've made for a better version of this tale" summary/review video.
And if you're in the mood for an older Japanese movie, Ryuhei Kitamura's Versus (1999) has a special place in my tier list of "fun bad" movies that I love showing to people in the lead up to Halloween. If you decide to watch it (even on your own time), I'll warn you now that the first 20 or so minutes are an absolute _slog_ to get through, thanks to the "serious yakuza movie is serious" tone, but the instant [redacted] happens, the film goes completely off the rails in all the best possible ways, and becomes a laugh riot for the rest of the runtime.

It takes different rates of time to turn depending on where you are bitten coupled with your own will power. Neck and head almost instant. Leg / foot takes some time. The girl in the beginning tied up her leg to slow the flow. She took the longest to turn based on bite alone. The barbarian dad was the best because he had the most will followed by the COO who was bitten in the lower extremities.

All of Us Are Dead, Kingdom, and Happiness are all pretty good zombie shows that all find interesting ways to change up the usual zombie ideas. (they're TV shows though, not movies. So bigger commitment on your end). Sweet Home is pretty good too, though not zombies. In fact, Korea just makes a ton of great shows in general. The best thing about Squid Game was that it introduced me to the world of Korean TV. I liked Squid Game a lot, but I've seen a lot of shows I think are even better (Signal, Stranger, It's Okay to Not Be Okay, and Alchemy of Souls just to name a few.)

I liked how it was apparent that where you were bitten played a part in how quickly you turned. The girl bitten in the leg took a while to turn because the virus needed to travel through the blood stream to the brain. She tied cloth around her leg that also slowed down the blood flow. Neck, shoulder or head bite is quick. Nicely done and kept those nuances consistent throughout the film.
