You can think of Spectre and No Time to Die as Daniel Craig's Bond operating at full potential. The first two films showed Bond as a young, powerful, and brash assassin. Skyfall showed us that Craig's Bond was aging and that it was time to rely less on brute force and trigger happy decisions. Spectre gives us the best of both young and old Bond. A calm, cool, and collected operative with a license to kill and, now, the wisdom and smarts to compliment his ability as a 00. One of my favorite examples of this is Bond's escape from Blofield in the desert. He outsmarts his way to freedom then shows everyone that he's got his aim back by holding Madeleine's hand while efficiently gunning down armed men.

But, how long in between the storylines were movies 2 and 3? Certainly not long enough to go from young to old.
Casino Royale was pretty good but then turned to crap.

Ladies, the fight scene (and the love that followed) is an homage to the Orient Express scene from "From Russia with Love". That film is notable, for one reason, because of the fight scene between Robert Shaw's character and Bond. Amazing films, both of them!

@@phousefilms Probably a good thing for her to be cast at this time in her career, though, since many Bond-girl actresses has said that being a Bond-girl limited their work and the types of roles they were offered, afterwards. Same Blofeld, hence the trademark cat, his wardrobe, the scar, etc. Just a rebooted character.
But, this was the first time in a few decades that the movies were legally allowed to use the name and the Spectre logo.
But, the only major difference is that they made this Blofeld Bond's brother.
You kinda have to know thecbasic history of the original Bond books and movies to understand what Spectre is to the Bond world. The last time Spectre/Blofeld was used was during some of the early Roger Moore movies.

Edit. Ok so I get it, it is a multiverse thing, and it is the same character from like frikin 40-50 years ago. Which is fkn stupid. Why does it have to be a multiverse thing, why cant it be like a straight timeline thing, once a 007 gets old etc a new one steps in. Maybe I havent just thought about this, its been a long time since ive actually watched these films.

The Daniel Craig movies are a partial reboot. Remember in Casino Royale he starts out before he became a Double Oh section agent and Judy Dench was already M.
So in this reboot/alternative universe (whatever) Bond never met and married Tracy.
However the previous Bonds were a continuation which is why Roger Moore ' Bond was Tracy's grave and then killed Blofeld by dropping him from a helicopter.
Frankly the continuity is so scrambled I just treat each movie as a stand alone.

I hadn't thought about it, but, quite possibly, the existence of a "multiverse," as a pop-culture concept, is maybe a great thing for the Bond franchise! It can easily explain how past events can be canon when needed, and not, when they would pose problems! We have, I'd say, at least seven, likely more, separate universes in which James Bond, et al, exists, and they are all similar, and different, to varying degrees! A certain key event may have happened in five of those universes, but, not the other two, or at different points in time.

Andrew Scott who plays C is so good at playing smooth, creepy, sociopathic, villains. He certainly was a scarily good Moriarty in the BBC Sherlock series. I wonder what he's like as a person. Sometimes actors get type cast, playing characters with personalities that are nothing like their own.
James Bond always reminds me of a line from a poem by an iconic Aussie Poet named A.B. "Banjo" Patterson. His image is even on our $10 note. My big sister gave me a cassette of his Animal Poems when I was a little girl. The line is "The more you shoot him, the less he dies." Which is definitely Bond. The next line of the poem is "Unless you shoot him between the eyes" it's about Feral Pigs.
A childhood trauma has also left me with a fear of guns. But my trauma wasn't as graphic as Madeline's. One night when I was 6 and my 17 year old favourite big brother who was my protector snuck out of the house. He went to visit his friend across the street who had a gun the police said would never fire. Tragically they were wrong, he accidentally shot himself in the head. The next morning after finding out what had happened, my world would never be the same again 😪. I'm glad that due to our gun laws there aren't many around. Because seeing a gun makes me shake uncontrollably.

Need to mention this. It sometimes happens that you keep someone in the dark, not out of distrust or uncertainty, but to protect them from danger or to protect them politically so they can still declare plausible deniability. Bond is kind of a traditional knight errant, protecting the crown at all costs, and may have been protecting M by not pulling him into the loop here. Just a thought.

I’ve been a Bond fan for over 30 years and I have no idea why this movie gets the hate that it does. I think it’s the closest we get in the Craig era to a “classic” Bond film. I love the score, I think Madeleine Swann is a great love interest for Bond, Dave Bautista plays one of the best henchmen in the entire series, and think Waltz makes a fine Blofeld. I think the biggest issue people have with the film is the retconning of a personal connection between Bond and Blofeld, but as these films represent a separate continuity I have no real issue with it. I wish they could have hinted at Blofeld earlier in the series but they couldn’t because of rights issues so it’s pretty clear they were setting up the Quantum organization as the SPECTRE stand-in with Mr. White as the Blofeld figure, but you can’t blame them for jumping on the chance to bring Blofeld and Spectre back when the legal issues cleared up.

For me, I think it's very slow. The action isn't as exciting as the other Craig films. And I also think they dropped the ball with Blofeld. Blofeld being a 'brother' of sorts to Bond fell flat for me because It was never mentioned in past films nor did he seem to have a strong reaction to seeing him early in the film. It just seemed like it was tacked on in there. Also, at the time I was under the impression that this was his last Bond film and it just seemed like such a dull to end on. However, I do appreciate more after rewatches and after getting 'No TIme To Die" which is a more fitting final film for Craigs Bond.

I do think it’s the weakest of Craig’s tenure (I know, I know, I’m crazy, but I actually like QOS), but by no means do I think it’s bad. I like it well enough and I do think Craig’s movies might have the highest average score when evaluated as a whole compared with any other Bind actor’s collection.
For me, Craig is 1B to Connery’s 1A and only bc Connery came first which is, admittedly, a little unfair to Craig bc it’s not like any of us have a say in when we were born.
When it comes to “spy” movies, I’m willing to put these against any other franchise, even the vaunted MI series (which I find weirdly mundane in a series that’s often viewed as having “out-Bonded” Bond).

For me it’s the personal connection between Bond and Blofeld. I hated that. It soured the entire movie for me. Anytime you make a storytelling decision in a Bond film that’s previously been mocked by Austin Powers, it’s not going to play well.

Hell, I find Quantum to be the second best Craig Bond (after Casino, of course) so I understand your pain. Quantum had significant issues but had the most character growth of any Craig era film. By far Craigs best performance IMHO. Definitely not worthy of the hate it gets and I enjoy rewatching more than the other non-Casino Royale Craig films.

    Fun Fact:
Monica Bellucci - who has a small
part in *"SPECTRE"* - had screen-tested for the role of Elliott Carver's
wife Paris in Pierce Brosnan's 2nd James Bond film: *"Tomorrow Never Dies"* (1997), before the producers went with Teri Hatcher (who was 3 months pregnant when production began).

First of all I would like to congratulate you guys on the premier of Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 as it was great to see you and hope you guys had fun and a great time🙏😁. Now talking about Spectre, I would like to start by saying that I enjoyed but not as much as Casino Royale and Skyfall🔥. I loved the desert action sequence and the plane action sequence in Austria in the snow. Christoph Waltz was amazing as “Blofeld” the antagonist as he’s such a brilliant actor. The rest of the cast was great as well such as Naomi Harris, Ralph Finnes, Lea Seydoux, Dave Bautista etc. Loved your reaction/analysis, take care and have a good one❤️

This Bond (with Daniel Craig starting with Casino Royale) was a reboot of the series. So this Blofeld is the canon one for this reboot. Also you guys skipped alot of the Bond movies, only watching 2 of each, you missed 1967 You Only Live Twice which was the first time anyone saw Blofelds scarred face. For most of this characters appearances in Bond films you never see his face just the white persian cat he is petting.

He keeps saying cuckoo to him because the cuckoo bird is known to leave their eggs in the nests of other birds so that they feed their hatchling. Said hatchlings are either raised with or push host eggs out of the nest.
I learnt that way after watching this and didn't realise he'd been calling him a parasite until the next film.

Believe that James was wearing Persol sunglasses during the funeral scene in Rome. Steve McQueen wore Persols in The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) and Pierce Brosnan was in the 1999 remake. Perhaps it was a nice nod, tying all three actors together? I may be wrong of course.

The Daniel Craig Bond series is a reimagining of the Connery Bond series(my fav) with all of Blofeld's lieutenants been modern version's of Dr. No, Goldfinger, Rosa Klebb & Emilio Largo. Dave Baustita's villainous character is a throwback to Goldfinger's Oddjob. The Bond/Blofeld family connection in the Craig series also a modern take on the series with the two been related because in the original Connery series no such connection existed, while not a fan of that modern spin, I enjoyed the Craig series nonetheless.

A few years ago, on TH-cam, there was a whole community of movie lovers who shared their common passion with the help of popular shows for geeks (Collider, AMC, Screenjunkies, etc...). They all used to hate ''Spectre'' and I never understood why because it's my favorite James Bond movie. The one I never tire of watching. It's like a greatest hits of all movies in the series. The most beautiful woman in human history makes an appearance there (hint: she's Italian). The villain is one of the greatest actors. The other James Bond girls are real Princess Leia or Lois Lane (feminine, sexy and independent) and one of them is French (i'm French). And the conclusion suggests a future couple of lovers-spies which, at the time, revived a franchise admirably well. And for true cinema lovers, the long sequence shot at the beginning (the camera follows James Bond without ever stopping, without changing shots) must certainly be a record (apart from the film ''The Birdman'' with Michael Keaton). While I understand why ''Casino Royale'' and ''Skyfall'' are so popular, this movie (''Spectre'') is by far my favorite. All that was missing was the music of Hans Zimmer (who composed that of ''No Time To Die'') to send me to cinema paradise.
