I remember hearing Jon Denver sing: Oh, I'd play Sally Goodin all day if I could but the Lord and my wife wouldn't take it very good.... This is the first time I ever heard it! I love it!
Funny, I came here because of John Denver in thank god Im a country boy, before I listened a lot of take me home country roads, and found that song because of a scene in The Office Show
I was an invesment banker on Wall Street listening to this song on my lunch break but by the end of this song I was barefoot in the Smoky Mountains patching up my chicken coop.
Always good to hear Gordon Terry on fiddle, and of course masterful work by Earl Scruggs to help make Sally Goodin a banjo tune as well. The dobro part was excellent too - was it Josh Graves?
Ive heard a couple versions of this song and this one definately is better. The intro being my favorite part sounds like the start of a perfect hoedown
Earl once said that snuffy Jenkins was the best and that he was very hard to beat also eck Robertson does a fantastic version of this on the fiddle some say the best

I like Earl's backup as much as his lead. Just love the interplay tween banjo and fiddle.
Love it, especially the banjo, and I am a fiddle student!
I'm fired up
Actually this is Gordon Terry playing fiddle on an album where the back up was an uncredited Flatt and Scruggs and Foggy Mountain Boys.
You can search the world over and you'll never find banjo pickin'better than this.I rest my case!!

Earl comes in a fews measures early at 1:40. Even the greatest makes mistakes! 😊
Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs broke up shortly before the show, and after the posters were printed, and were replaced by the Osborne Brothers.
J.D. Crowe vs Earl Scruggs' version...Earl wins hands down.
J.D. would have told you that Earl Scruggs is the man the made him want to play the banjo. Earl was/is the master.
