I am 46 years old and my mother is 81 years old and i call her everyday to make sure she is doing alright. That kind of compassion and empathy has changed with our younger generations.

I feel you 100% and if we are honest, it HURTS! When you are a giver, people INCLUDING family will take full advantage of you! This is why givers stay blessed with abundance and the takers STAY BROKE! We feel obligated to take care of family because their blood but God is teaching me in this season to worry about SELF and wait on GOD to direct me on who to help next ( even if it means a complete stranger) Many times, we keep helping people who God dont even want to help because God needs them to hit Rock bottom, yet WE are getting in God's way by helping them! We have to keep our cups full and let others get the over flow. Some of us keep pouring from empty cups and before you know it, your in depression because of stress and anxiety becauseof OTHER people's problems! I'm moving in a darn tree house after this virus is over! Lol! People will use you and talk about you when you say no! Well I am learning to say NO and it feels GREAT!!! Blessings to all!! ❤❤❤❤❤

We deal with so much! They dont even consider the pressure we are under to just keep things going. They just take take take and when we are in need (even if it is just positive words) the only person we can turn to is God. God has been clear to me, that if I dont learn to get (healthy selfish) I will miss upcoming blessings. WHY would God continue to bless us if we are throwing money in the ground to unworthy people?! Like Rick said, it's the smallest things that means the most to us! We know that most of these people cant do much financially for us but darn, U cant call and check on us! But God!!! God is allowing this time to show us who is who!! This virus is teaching alot of us many different lessons
'Rickey', I feel you. I raised my daughter's three girls after her death. At that time their ages were 3, 7, & 11. I fought for them in court because of a wrongful death of my only child, their mother. Long story short. They no longer know who I am. Their friends are more important. I surrendered my life for them. The money God and I fought for them to have is spent on their friends. 'Yes' Rickey, I sincerely feel 'You'. Blessing.

My daughter work all the time.. she do what she want.. Boys crazy.. wearing ankle bracelet now.. two years probation.. fighting what girl in school.. think she bad... My daughter don't do nothing.. she run get a lawyer.. trying to get the Bracelet off her.. oh really.. she doesn't listen.. she got fast think she grown.. I clean her room/ ect just lazy/ nasty.. hot in her Butt.. I was raise the way Ricky was raise the old fashion way.. we couldn't disrespect our Elderly grown up we knew better.. parents these days spoil the kids . And the kids treat them like a 🐶.. just 😢😭 God 🙏 much blessing upon you family.. It's hurt me/u so much the way these kids act today.. The bible don't lie.. heart cold as wax... I'm ashamed to say that I'm a part of this generation, but also I'm beyond different from my counterparts. I find the most joy hanging around older people. My mom tells me all the time that I was born in the wrong era. My 2 uncles are both in their 70s & I call them everyday just to check on them. Before this pandemic, I would visit them as much as I could too. It's the thought that counts & I will continue to do so until God calls one of us home
I called my parents today and it made me feel whole just hearing their voices! I feel so blessed to still have my parents and I know that nothing could ever replace them. God has been so merciful to me and my family and I’m vert grateful ✊🏾🖤🙏🏾

I’m going through this. My daughter has graduated from two of the top schools in the nation with honors. She is now starting to reap the harvest of her hard work. Yet I barely see or hear from her. When we talk it’s about everything but how I’m doing. I’ve given her my all and she’s my only child
I had to let you know how much your commentary moved me today. I'm an aunt, a mom, a big sis, a friend to many and at times I feel so overlooked!! And I also feel so hurt at how much effort I put forth to show my circle how much I love and care for them....it really hurts and your point gave me some validation that I am only human and I truly thank you for that.

Since my mom and uncle passed, I only have my two daughters and they’re in college. I hope and pray they won’t ignore me when they get on their own.

In other words their priorities are twisted and their communties consist of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok... notice all of their attention has been focused on "me, me, me, me,... @Geechie82 agreed because alot of parents are childish in the mind and want to be their friend. Teaching starts early as soon as the baby comes out. Some people know what to do but chose not to do because of the "feelings."
I feel like my mom is a victim of it.... like for instance when I come over or just visit there's never a time when I'm not compared to some other female that is my age or my grandmother will praise me gaining my weight back after I quote on quote look unhealthy after I lost weight and I've always been big and teased and bullied for being big most of my childhood open to early adulthood. I think I'm guilty and not calling and checking on my folks as I should but growing up the way I did and just experiencing what I did which would be a long story to explain I guess being away and putting distance in between is my way of just having my own peace but I guess that's kind of selfish. But yes I double in my guilt when my mom needs something on my grandma or my brother who is by the way older than me. But I must say that there was times that I can think of when I feel like I was used to a certain degree my credit isn't even right the way that I would like for it to be because I've been putting myself in situations to just help someone else and just not get it back and it is taking me used to get myself where I feel like I need to be. Idk. Honestly I have not been keeping in contact with friends or family or much of anybody like that because of the guilt of putting myself in the situation I've been in and I just feel like I need to suffer for this or just laying my own as well as work on getting myself out of this hole and I feel like I have to focus.

But my strong advice is to NEVER help anyone out with your credit because if they had good credit they wouldn't need you. Credit is all you have and one day soon paper money will be worth nothing. Protect yourself always by allow yourself time to tell the ones you love dearly not to disrespect you in that particular manner. If they cannot respect your boundary than the weekly short phone calls will do fine. I always share with my mentees that they are to be the bigger person in any situation because you can control you. Leave people with a smile, a thank you, or just something positive if you can because it cost absolutely nothing to be that person. The road often less traveled are those paved with kindness and do-gooders. Be that person as much as possible and for those not wanting to change...well just speak over the phone. You got this and remember don't ever ever never ever never ever give your social security #, birthdate to any one EVER! Praying for peace and happiness. Go to an unfamiliar place of HAPPINESS and GROWTH and reexamine and put in place what you vision for happiness, forgiveness, and growth. Take today and get a journal and write, cry, shout, and defeat that negative reoccurring voice that has you stuck. You got this simply because the Most High has you and didn't make you to be defeated by others. Challenge yourself each day by doing something new towards building your happy place 🤗😜. If you have one other person that celebrates you, send them a card with written words and tell them how important they are in your life. Erase that spirit of loneliness by doing the opposite and reach out. God gave us everything we need to navigate the highs and lows in this life form. Win by doing the opposite of the negative thoughts and you will begin to see and feel better. 🤗💜🖤💜

I just got off the phone with a Friend of mine, and I was just saying that same thing to her. This is different Generation of Children coming up today. I have 2 Grandchildren who know me as Grandmother and have nothing to with me. And it breaks my Heart. These Children was raised with me.

I raised my son by myself as my only child for the 1st 12 years of his life until i meet my husband. By the grace of God; he has had a very Blessed, loving and Privileged life. I payed for him to take a 12 day trip to Canada. Gave my blood, sweat, tears to make sure he didn't have to want for nothing. At 17; he's dropped out of school, smoking weed and chooses not to be a child of God. I didn't get a phone call from him nor a card in the mail on Mother's Day!! And I'm at peace with it because I've been doing my part as a Real Mother from Day "1". He doesn't have to answer to me but God. As a woman of God and Mother; I will continue to pray for my son.

The nerve .. if its that bad where they don't want to speak I would tell them that maybe they need to move elsewhere since they cant speak in the morning but still living up under your roof. Offer them a way out if it hurts them to speak to you in the morning.
I have a brother who is just like that towards me I've been there for him through the hard times even when he was locked up and has stolen from me and my oldest daughter was still there after our mother and grandmother died among other things.All I asked for just a phone call saying he's alright I'm hurt . Amen Rickey!!!! I was raised by my grandparents too that happened to be farmers in Tuscaloosa; which meant that all the grandchildren were modern day slaves...lol.But they taught us a lot. And I wouldn't trade any of those 100 degree days for anything. And until they both took their last breath I was always calling and/or stopping by... And it was the same way with my Aunt I just lost last October. This new age generation has this sense of entitlement and "Thank You" is beyond their vocabulary. Mr. Smiley I hear you on this topic cause my grandma raised me till I was 5 then went live with my parents. My grandma tought me alot and I still remember til this day. She's in heaven since 1981. I have 2 children of my own raised them myself and you know my daughter is the oldest (43) and you know she won't even call me to check up on me at all. I had open heart surgery in December 2018 and she said to me that she was glad that I'm here. But now the other hand my son has been here for me (he's 26) he pays my bills and rent since I don't work anymore, he calls me just about everyday to make sure I'm ok and this was before the virus. He's very humble but my daughter I thought that she would be this way so I just pray for her and hope that one day she'll change.
The young generation today alot of the young ones don't have respect for the older generation at all . They don't care to check on you or call you the only time you will see them is when they want something from you they will call you and everything . I always tell people that i talk to my daughter and son everyday and my to older grandsons everyday even if we just talk about what we watched on TV . So i really appreciate all of that so i understand what you're talking about Rickey .

My dad is currently going through that with my sister. I’m the one that checks on him and everyone else in my family. I wouldn’t feel right if i didn’t. It’s like my chest hurts if I don’t check on them. And I am the younger sister.. smh and my dad did the MOST for her!
Welcome to the club of negligence of family members. Soon as my mom passed they stop calling. Been nothing but nice and kind . Am the eldest grandchild. Family been ghost. Son ghost as well. You are soo right, my mom raised me different than that. My mom was always checking on the elderly and shut in. I got that from my mom. You are right!!!!!

Rickey, I get it man! My daughter calls me when she needs something or to complain about her relationship and work. God Forbid I try to give her advice, she takes everything so negative and gets defensive so that stopped. My son don't call or text. They're on their own, out the house and yet can't call to just see how I'm doing. I do for only 4 people now and that is it, My husband, my mama, his mama and my youngest that's autistic. I'm done with helping the two oldest. I can't even get a thank you or a card. As for everybody else, I pray for them and that is enough from me.
I'm so glad I came up on this site I thought I was the only one in the world going through this I did or I thought I was a good mother to my daughter when she was in school high school college but to find out you're being used but I don't give a damn about you and it really shows up when you're sick they don't show up so that's a real slap in the face and you think it's something you've done but the evilness and the generation today so heartbreaking I never would have thought my daughter would treat me the way she does glad to know that I'm not the only one thanks to God for sharing We're All in This Together
Lisa Harris I pray that you get a calm heart about the situation. I truly understand because my son has done me the same way. I got so sick, I thought I was dying. I realized that this situation was killing me. I had to let go. I would welcome my son back in a minute. He is grown and I cannot make him do anything. Put your child in God’s hand and leave it there. He knows what to do with them better than we can. Girl, this has taken me 2.5 years to get here. I cried for 1.5 years everyday about my son. I will add that I later learned that my own mother talked him against me so he could live with her. A double whammy, I didn’t see it coming.My family turned against me because I fought to get my son back home, even though he was 19. I have been ostracized by my immediate family. I have serious health issues & no one even checks on me. So I leave them alone. I know God sees and will correct the wrong eventually. It still hurts, but not as bad. To be fair, have the elders taught their youth to keep up with them? I know mine have taught me to keep up with them BUT it had to be taught first. A lot of times, especially in the black community, we leave issues unspoken. Our elders are the example and they are our leaders but has everyone been taught correctly? These are different times we are in. A lot of our elders went wrong when they stopped whooping their children for bad behavior. Now all the do is cuss at them. You ain’t been taught NOTHING if you ain’t had a hickory to your legs!!! 😂😂😂 ALSO, I am the oldest grandchild. I’m 25 and I’m the only one who is held responsible for being at every family event etc. everyone else, not so much. TALK ABOUT IT MY PEOPLE!!!!!
I was blessed to have been born in the 90's and raised by people born in the 1920's and 30's. I Grew up surrounded by great aunts and uncles born in the 1910's. It has definitely shaped me into who I am today and has set me apart from my generation.

I'm a mother of twins who are 32 years old & we have gone through a lot with a their dad being around due to his own circumstance. Only one of my sons call to check up on me almost everyday but the other son I hear from when he needs a babysitter or in trouble. When they was growing up I made one big mistake by my addiction disease but been clean for 16 years now. I don't let my past dictate my present but I keep it moving!!
Cheryl Collins Addictions are so extremely painful for the children. Although you put it behind you, your children might be still struggling with how life was because of you. It is not their fault. It was yours. You should be open to do whatever it takes to make it up to him...them..because that son that still has a good relationship with you is probably still struggling too.
16 yrs is a long time for your kids to have to deal with your addiction. All you can do is keep trying, one son forgave you, the other one didn't. You just have to accept it and keep trying. That was his childhood you ruined as well
What a great laudatory to your uncles!! As a senior citizen with no children, I receive the same treatment from my nephews and nieces scattered over the country.. Since this virus I continue to receive text msgs from them about my well fair. Sometimes when I open my back door, there are paper products & water etc. to keep me from going to the store, even when I tell them I don't need anything and I am financially comfortable. THAT'S LOVE! !. Sometimes writing your thoughts in a letter and mailing a copy to each person, selfish or unselfish, will help the other youngster wake up. Again, Great Review!

I feel you 100% and if we are honest, it HURTS! When you are a giver, people INCLUDING family will take full advantage of you! This is why givers stay blessed with abundance and the takers STAY BROKE! We feel obligated to take care of family because their blood but God is teaching me in this season to worry about SELF and wait on GOD to direct me on who to help next ( even if it means a complete stranger)
Many times, we keep helping people who God dont even want to help because God needs them to hit Rock bottom, yet WE are getting in God's way by helping them! We have to keep our cups full and let others get the over flow. Some of us keep pouring from empty cups and before you know it, your in depression because of stress and anxiety becauseof OTHER people's problems! 'Rickey', I feel you. I raised my daughter's three girls after her death. At that time their ages were 3, 7, & 11. I fought for them in court because of a wrongful death of my only child, their mother.
Long story short. They no longer know who I am. Their friends are more important. I surrendered my life for them. The money God and I fought for them to have is spent on their friends.

I'm ashamed to say that I'm a part of this generation, but also I'm beyond different from my counterparts. I find the most joy hanging around older people. My mom tells me all the time that I was born in the wrong era. My 2 uncles are both in their 70s & I call them everyday just to check on them. Before this pandemic, I would visit them as much as I could too. It's the thought that counts & I will continue to do so until God calls one of us home
I called my parents today and it made me feel whole just hearing their voices! I feel so blessed to still have my parents and I know that nothing could ever replace them. God has been so merciful to me and my family and I’m vert grateful ✊🏾🖤🙏🏾

I feel like my mom is a victim of it.... like for instance when I come over or just visit there's never a time when I'm not compared to some other female that is my age or my grandmother will praise me gaining my weight back after I quote on quote look unhealthy after I lost weight and I've always been big and teased and bullied for being big most of my childhood open to early adulthood.
I think I'm guilty and not calling and checking on my folks as I should but growing up the way I did and just experiencing what I did which would be a long story to explain I guess being away and putting distance in between is my way of just having my own peace but I guess that's kind of selfish.
But yes I double in my guilt when my mom needs something on my grandma or my brother who is by the way older than me.
But I must say that there was times that I can think of when I feel like I was used to a certain degree my credit isn't even right the way that I would like for it to be because I've been putting myself in situations to just help someone else and just not get it back and it is taking me used to get myself where I feel like I need to be. Idk.
Honestly I have not been keeping in contact with friends or family or much of anybody like that because of the guilt of putting myself in the situation I've been in and I just feel like I need to suffer for this or just laying my own as well as work on getting myself out of this hole and I feel like I have to focus.

But my strong advice is to NEVER help anyone out with your credit because if they had good credit they wouldn't need you. Credit is all you have and one day soon paper money will be worth nothing. Protect yourself always by allow yourself time to tell the ones you love dearly not to disrespect you in that particular manner. If they cannot respect your boundary than the weekly short phone calls will do fine. I always share with my mentees that they are to be the bigger person in any situation because you can control you. Leave people with a smile, a thank you, or just something positive if you can because it cost absolutely nothing to be that person. The road often less traveled are those paved with kindness and
do-gooders. Be that person as much as possible and for those not wanting to change...well just speak over the phone. Rickey, I love you my brother.....So smart, so compassionate and so humble.
I raised my son by myself as my only child for the 1st 12 years of his life until i meet my husband. By the grace of God; he has had a very Blessed, loving and Privileged life. I payed for him to take a 12 day trip to Canada. Gave my blood, sweat, tears to make sure he didn't have to want for nothing. At 17; he's dropped out of school, smoking weed and chooses not to be a child of God. I didn't get a phone call from him nor a card in the mail on Mother's Day!! And I'm at peace with it because I've been doing my part as a Real Mother from Day "1". He doesn't have to answer to me but God. As a woman of God and Mother; I will continue to pray for my son.

Mr. Smiley I hear you on this topic cause my grandma raised me till I was 5 then went live with my parents. My grandma tought me alot and I still remember til this day. She's in heaven since 1981. I have 2 children of my own raised them myself and you know my daughter is the oldest (43) and you know she won't even call me to check up on me at all. I had open heart surgery in December 2018 and she said to me that she was glad that I'm here. But now the other hand my son has been here for me (he's 26) he pays my bills and rent since I don't work anymore, he calls me just about everyday to make sure I'm ok and this was before the virus.
He's very humble but my daughter I thought that she would be this way so I just pray for her and hope that one day she'll change.

My dad is currently going through that with my sister. I’m the one that checks on him and everyone else in my family. I wouldn’t feel right if i didn’t. It’s like my chest hurts if I don’t check on them. And I am the younger sister.. smh and my dad did the MOST for her!
Welcome to the club of negligence of family members. Soon as my mom passed they stop calling. Been nothing but nice and kind . Am the eldest grandchild. Family been ghost. Son ghost as well. Rickey, I get it man! My daughter calls me when she needs something or to complain about her relationship and work. God Forbid I try to give her advice, she takes everything so negative and gets defensive so that stopped. My son don't call or text. They're on their own, out the house and yet can't call to just see how I'm doing. I do for only 4 people now and that is it, My husband, my mama, his mama and my youngest that's autistic. I'm done with helping the two oldest. I can't even get a thank you or a card. As for everybody else, I pray for them and that is enough from me.

I'm so glad I came up on this site I thought I was the only one in the world going through this I did or I thought I was a good mother to my daughter when she was in school high school college but to find out you're being used but I don't give a damn about you and it really shows up when you're sick they don't show up so that's a real slap in the face and you think it's something you've done but the evilness and the generation today so heartbreaking I never would have thought my daughter would treat me the way she does glad to know that I'm not the only one thanks to God for sharing We're All in This Together
Lisa Harris I pray that you get a calm heart about the situation. I truly understand because my son has done me the same way. I got so sick, I thought I was dying. I realized that this situation was killing me. I had to let go. I would welcome my son back in a minute. He is grown and I cannot make him do anything. Put your child in God’s hand and leave it there. He knows what to do with them better than we can. Girl, this has taken me 2.5 years to get here. I cried for 1.5 years everyday about my son. I will add that I later learned that my own mother talked him against me so he could live with her. A double whammy, I didn’t see it coming.My family turned against me because I fought to get my son back home, even though he was 19. I have been ostracized by my immediate family. I have serious health issues & no one even checks on me. So I leave them alone. I know God sees and will correct the wrong eventually. It still hurts, but not as bad. I continue to be the Person they call when those so-call friends leave them or use them... I am sorry that your mother was not who she could have been but she will regret and repent and remember!!? To be fair, have the elders taught their youth to keep up with them? I know mine have taught me to keep up with them BUT it had to be taught first.
A lot of times, especially in the black community, we leave issues unspoken. Our elders are the example and they are our leaders but has everyone been taught correctly? These are different times we are in.
A lot of our elders went wrong when they stopped whooping their children for bad behavior. Now all the do is cuss at them. You ain’t been taught NOTHING if you ain’t had a hickory to your legs!!! 😂😂😂
ALSO, I am the oldest grandchild. I’m 25 and I’m the only one who is held responsible for being at every family event etc. everyone else, not so much.

I was blessed to have been born in the 90's and raised by people born in the 1920's and 30's. I Grew up surrounded by great aunts and uncles born in the 1910's. It has definitely shaped me into who I am today and has set me apart from my generation.

I'm a mother of twins who are 32 years old & we have gone through a lot with a their dad being around due to his own circumstance. Only one of my sons call to check up on me almost everyday but the other son I hear from when he needs a babysitter or in trouble. When they was growing up I made one big mistake by my addiction disease but been clean for 16 years now. I don't let my past dictate my present but I keep it moving!!

Cheryl Collins Addictions are so extremely painful for the children. Although you put it behind you, your children might be still struggling with how life was because of you. It is not their fault. It was yours. You should be open to do whatever it takes to make it up to him...them..because that son that still has a good relationship with you is probably still struggling too.
16 yrs is a long time for your kids to have to deal with your addiction. All you can do is keep trying, one son forgave you, the other one didn't. You just have to accept it and keep trying. That was his childhood you ruined as well

What a great laudatory to your uncles!! As a senior citizen with no children, I receive the same treatment from my nephews and nieces scattered over the country.. Since this virus I continue to receive text msgs from them about my well fair. Sometimes when I open my back door, there are paper products & water etc. to keep me from going to the store, even when I tell them I don't need anything and I am financially comfortable. THAT'S LOVE! !. Sometimes writing your thoughts in a letter and mailing a copy to each person, selfish or unselfish, will help the other youngster wake up. Again, Great Review!
Rickey🙂😘🥰👋🏼..you are sooo right..we were taught differently..we appreciated and respected our elders..we sacrificed our free time so that we looked out for them and their needs..Its basically a cycle..you do for those who did for you..I do notice the same ...we work hard so our kids can have better and it seems like it does more damage than good. I am constantly going off on my kids and the selfish ways they have..and they stop and apologize but yet in still they are missing the Natural behavior of just looking out for family and elders..so sad...these MF's Are weird..excuse my bluntness..I was raised no dad..only Uncles and a grandpa and they were all caring and present....we saw it all..good and bad but they made us all feel important..Stay blessed and this topic was needed..its sad they have these ways..😔👋🏼🥰😘
