  • Louie Anderson has channeled his beloved mom in his stand-up routine for decades, but she died before seeing him reach his greatest heights, culminating in his breakout TV role as Christine Baskets, the mesmerizing character inspired by his mom, Ora Zella Anderson. His new book, "Hey Mom," is Anderson's way of catching her up on his triumphs, disappointments and continuing challenges. There is heartache, but also great hope. There are also-given Anderson’s inimitable voice-laugh-out-loud stories and observations on life’s absurdities, the kind only he could make.

Listening to you I swear I feel like I'm listening to myself. My relationship with my mom was very close until she passed in my arms from dementia. Aram J. Dosdourian It's really unbelievable listening to you. You were a wonderful person and I'll never forget you ❤

What a terrible interviewer! Louie is so funny, but yet his conservation is very deep! Sad, yet helpful to all of us to have a better relationship with our parents! I absolutely adore Louie Anderson!! 🥰

Isn't he precious? I kept wanting to hug him. I'm older than he is, so it's a maternal kind of feeling, but it's also just because he's being refreshingly honest & open in this interview. Also, he is so human & insightful. Listening to Louie here touched my sense of regrets I've felt for taking my parents & older brother for granted. I suspect that this tends to happen to us more often when we're older, & have more time on our hands to reflect..

Louie is a comedy legend. I'm almost 25 and i have so many memories of waking up on Saturday mornings to see his cartoon. He's excellent in baskets and his stand up is timeless.

As a mother of five children I want to let everyone know that when I brought #5 home from the hospital I had to pretty much compete to hold him. If I wasn't nursing the little guy I probably wouldn't have gotten to hold him except if his diaper stunk. I know his mother had to have been excited to have him from the moment she felt him move in the womb.

As always, Louie is sharp and quick. This interviewer was slow, rude and perhaps somewhat immature. God bless Louie for being so patient.

When my mom passed the very first thing that i thought of was that "I should of been a better daughter" to her. I totally loved this brutally honest interview. The struggle is real Louis. Thank you for showing your mom the best side of you. You. The tribute to your mother is humbling and any human being loves their mother best as they could under every circumstance. Thank you for being honest and true to your mother. Describing our relationship with our mother's is sacred and a blessing too, know that others can bring their best with their own mother and the greatness of that can be so very rewarding Our mothers deserve that. Thank you for being so candid and true in this video. We all have baggage and we all need and appreciate the love of our parents. Right, wrong or indifferent our Mothers heartaches and truths are more importantly first and foremost. I just never thought that the true connection with my mom should of been.....better. Thank you so very much for helping me cope with my mom's passing years ago and wishing so very much, that I could of been more...to her.

I love him as a person. I know he can probably like all of us be self-centered, rude, but whatever..I still like who he is and who he wants to be and tries to be, his heart's intention. Look, he is damaged goods like all of us. I could tell - we'd be pals, deep conversations and laughing too, perhaps a few tears.

I just keep seeing more of Louie Anderson and his standup and talk show appearances and I just have so much respect for the man. I'm sitting here, tears in my eyes because A my mother and I are fairly close and B I just lost my biological father to a heart attack this past Christmas; he and I did not have a good relationship and hiss passing happened right at the time that we started to rekindle it. I forget what I was originally going to comment but I love Louie Anderson and I'm definitely getting this book for my mom as well as myself

You have so much humanity and wisdom to share with us humans of all ages. You’ve come almost full circle in your life and there’s so much to share to educate the every family “situation”, warts and all. The individuals that make up a family, from the parents to the youngest child. You can encompass the whole range of emotions, weaknesses and strengths. You speak about your mom “babbling on” forever about Shirley and being impatient with that, as everybody goes through, but you end with you’re understanding that what she is really saying is “I feel so badly my friend endured this and it could happened to me, and I’m afraid.” That you figured that out makes you a person of value and a good son and person. With age comes wisdom, and growing up in an “unhealthy” family situation, and who hasn’t on different levels where an alcoholic parent is involved, you’ve been shaped into a gift that has kept on giving laughter, joy, sadness and an emotional understanding to so many of your fans over these many years. You’re message, from the highs to the lows, make you a person of multiple interests to so many people and to so many generations. You’ve given great joy and acceptance that kept us laughing with you and you’ve inspired us all. Who knew all those years ago, huh? A lotta layers, still unfolding. Thank you for sharing your family, unique experiences, humor and so much more. Your parents and siblings were and are proud of you whether they could express it properly or not, they felt it inside their heart. (Ya, even your dad!) Congratulations on your new show and my best heartfelt wishes of happiness to your future on and off the screen. ✌️n💕

I love u so much louie! I've never ever have heard of anyone else who just hug strangers! I have a shirt I made that says "need a hug?-ME TOO", before covid, it was a lot easier to get strangers to give me a hug! I feel like miss matched puzzle pieces, and totally talk to my people who are gone, and I absolutely have a conscious in multifarious voices!

He's so right about parents influence. My dad doesn't listen to what I'm saying until I cuss him out. Then he's listening and I can be calmer. But he'll dismiss you otherwise. I try not to do the same with others, but sometimes it's hard to not cuss people out.
