Solterra Off Road Adventure Test

- The Subaru Solterra is the first Subaru EV, and we had questions. The biggest one bring, is the Solterra really a Subaru? Thanks to Flatirons Subaru, we had the chance to take a Solterra up into the foothills with Tasso from OTC Racing to put the car through its paces.
We found some dirt roads with some obstacles so that we could see how the Solterra could handle them, and we had Tasso in his 2023 Forester Sport along to compare.
Is the Solterra capable off road?
Is the Solterra fun to drive?
Is the Solterra fast?
We answer all of these questions, and we all came away with a different impression of this car than what we started with.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!

I just bought the Solterra less than a week ago. Thanks for showing what it can handle. Seems just as capable as the Outback I had before. I do go down some sketchy FS roads and I'm happy I can keep doing that.
Very cool! Glad that this video was helpful, and congratulations on the new car!

This thing looks more capable
Nice test. I like that you had a comparison car (Forester) to show what that could do as a basis for difficulty and then seeing the Solterra walk through it was pretty impressive.
Thanks very much! Glad that you enjoyed the video.

My friend has a Toyota Venda small motor with 4 wheel electric ac motors. We flashed the trd tune in it and it had 400ftlbs of torque. We spanked an sti no problem. I was very impressed and it had a motor sound too. That’s the best of both worlds
Great review/comparison.
I'm ready for an EV racecar too, once the ranges can handle a few 20 minute sessions and the weight drops. The idea of not having to worry about ICE engine/transmission failures on the track is highly intriguing.
Thanks very much Steve. This was pretty eye-opening for us. It is definitely the way of the future.

By far the best video showing what the Solterra can do... Most videos on TH-cam compare it to other EVs but forget, or they just don't know what the vehicle is capable of doing off-road.. Try that with your Tesla or Mustang Mach-E
Thanks very much! Really glad you liked the approach we took with the Solterra.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
Let’s see it rally now
Just got one I'm excited to going camping with it!
Very cool! Enjoy the car and Stay Tuned!
do you solar charge it out in the wilderness?
@@nick_0 I do not but our camp sites are within a 75 mile radius so no need. :)
Thanks for the video and thoughts! I traded my 2022 Forester for a 2023 Solterra. Love everything about the car with the exception of the battery charging time and range.
Very glad you are enjoying the car. It really surprised us.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
Absolutely EV racecar! Remember Ken Block with that insane Etron
That was very cool. You should check out the Electric Rally Cross in Europe as well. Lots of fun things are coming.
This was a very different driving experience, and I'd definitely recommend trying it out if you get the opportunity.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
I can't get over the ev noise.
Outside the car, it is a bit odd. Inside the car, you pretty much don't hear it. The quiet itself is a little weird.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
It's supposed to be a safety feature for pedestrians since the car is so quiet. It's only supposed to ring when driving under 20km/h or something I think
Well it won't need a built short block to make power
Is this the test drive haha
That noise ….
How much ? $45,000
Range anxiety.
That is a thing, but it was not an issue on this trip :-)
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
short answer, nah. it's a Toyota with a Subaru badge
It did better on these mild trails than the Forester did……
Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching.
Subaru did design the X-Drive system which was pretty impressive. It at least has a little Subaru DNA.
Stay Tuned!
@@FlatironsTuning if you would have touch the brakes a bit on your forester you would have gone out of that ditch with absolutely no spin
@@bissonnetteclaude8331 The car applies brakes on the wheel in the air as you saw it kept stopping and starting.
