    Thank you so much for this video! I'm incubating for the first time and thought it was taking too long for the chicks to hatch after they started rocking and peeping. Now I'm no longer anxious but excited and hopeful ❤️

    Hi Shellie! I just watched your video of all your baby chicks you hatched out! They're so cute! Brings back memories of my childhood! My grandparents raised me and they had chickens. I always loved the baby chicks. When I was about 5 years old, my brothers and I got Easter baskets full of dyed chicks, all different colors! They weren't allowed to dye chicks after that because the dye could harm them. I just 💘 loved my Easter basket that year! Baby chicks always bring that memory back to me. Out of that basket of chicks I ended up having a pet chicken that stayed with me like a puppy. She always laid triple yolk eggs. She was some kind of huge white chicken. I enjoyed your video very much!💜

    If a chick is dry and others are hatching and you want to remove that one chick you can add real warm water to the incubator to get the humidity back up.I do it all the time.Never had a chick die from shrink wrap in the egg.

    • @farmmom7140
      @farmmom7140  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching Eco Cambra! In this video I had 38 eggs in the incubator. All together 27 hatched. 3 were born with bum legs or somewhat deformed and the other 2 didn't make it overnight in the brooder. ( some can be more week that others). So all together it was between 71-72% hatch rate. (with the ones that passed) . After that with the live ones it was around 60%. I hope this helps, have a great day!

    • @ecocambra8355
      @ecocambra8355 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@farmmom7140 thank you for replying, I was wondering due to the conflicting results I've heard from others about laying the eggs on their side vs standing them up during lockdown. Have you ever tried standing them up during lockdown to see if it changes hatch rate?
      Oh and for the ones with bum legs, sometimes if splinted together early enough they can recover and walk normal after a day. Its called spraddle leg I think, had a few chicks come out this way and I used a 1/2 piece of a plastic straw and a small rubber band through it to help keep the legs close together but at correct distance, another method is to use that self sticking horse bandage material to loop around legs and pinch the material to itself between the legs.

    @Farm Mom I have some questions:
    1. If I have a chick that has hatched and is really weak should I remove it or leave it in with the other chicks?
    2. while the chick is in the egg can you tell if its a hen or a rooster?
    3. When the chicks are put in the brooder do they establish a pecking order?
    4. If I have a egg that has piped and struggling to hatch should I assist it with hatching?
    5. Should I candle the eggs to see how the chick is developing?
    6. If there’s a chick who is struggling to feed should I mash up a bit of chick food with some water and assist feed the chick with a syringe?
    7. Should I weigh the eggs to see how far they are developing?
    8. What’s the age of the chick when it starts to grow feathers?
    9. When the chicks are put in the brooder should I change the bedding every day?
    And lastly 10. If I had a chick hatch with a deformity like a crooked neck or leg should I try to raise it to adulthood and also try to correct the deformity?

      Thanks for watching! When first starting your incubator prior to putting the eggs in, yes you can use warm water. (Not hot). Give your incubator anywhere from 24-48hours to come to the temperature and humidity that you desire. If you have hatching eggs in the incubator already, try to add water as close to the temperature that your incubator is currently reading. The biggest thing to avoid is large temperature spikes or decreases. Good luck!

    Awe, those baby chicks are sure cute! I hope the rest of the eggs in your incubator hatch. When I was growing up, Mom and Dad bought baby chicks (broilers) from a local hatchery every spring. One year we got a little white one that didn't grow fast like the rest of them did. I claimed her as my pet, mom and dad didn't have the heart to butcher 'Cluck Cluck'. She started laying eggs and finally had to give her away to a neighbor who had a hen house. Thanks for reminding me! 🐥
