    Nice take on the Instagram trend - I love it so much! I always cringe when I see those beautiful young women putting 3 pumps of foundation followed by tons of concealer; they have beautiful skin and tight contours and I'm like "why?!?". But to each their own, I still think that everybody should do what makes them happy. :-)
    Nonetheless, I much prefer Lisa's beautiful, timeless makeup - I can go back on watching old pictures of me without feeling ashamed of what I used to put on my face. Hahaha!
    Thank you so much for sharing, Lisa! x Davie

      This video made me feel so much better about my makeup skills and techniques. I love watching all the Gurus but it's just too much makeup for me. I've been doing Lisa's Shape Tape technique on myself for about a year so seeing her do it like that too somehow validated it for me! I feel ridiculous in all of that foundation if it isn't a special occasion. Lisa truly is the best!

      Anne you shouldn’t blame other girls for your insecurities tho. I am insecure but I know %100 it’s because of the way I think of myself. So being rude to other girls for something they didn’t do is not cute

      @MiyukiItachi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@kiwitropicana3047 Like it or not social media hurts a lot of girls confidence. There have been studies that confirm this. So really those girls on instagram are responsible for people being insecure about themselves.

      Anne part of the reason why foundation looks flawless on influencers is fillers or filters. My pores show through my foundation. It’s not a great look, but I’m not at the point of my life where I want to fill my face to cover my pores.

    It is so refreshing to hear you talk about how makeup looks in daylight. The considerably large amount of makeup (especially foundation and concealer) a lot of beauty gurus use in their videos just doesn’t seem to embellish the average person‘s skin. Especially if your skin is not perfect and has dry patches, wrinkles or other imperfections, that style of makeup tends to rather magnify them.
    So thank you for your tutorial showing us how to use those products realistically!
    I just have one question: what do you think about baking? It is such a popular trend on the internet but I noticed you don‘t use it. Why is that? Thank you 😊

    • @LisaEldridge

      For real everyday life I dont love tonnes of heavy powder pushed into the skin around the eyes as it emphasises lines and dryness (although it can look good on the right face for TV and strong flash red carpet). X

      DeadliestTrap EverLaid I tried for about 6 months and gave up. I really dont like heavy, cakey, thick product around my eyes and it is so drying. I tried every kind of moisturizer, oil, gel, etc under it and I just dont like that heavy look. I prefer to use a color corrector just in the bluish recess under my eyes and the inner corner and then the Rainforest of The Sea Concealer overall. It covers but gives a very natural, soft look.

    You have taught me more about makeup than any other person ever...I’ve sold makeup for a living, I’ve taken multiple classes, I’ve read many a book, and I’ve been a consumer since I was old enough to physically put it on my face. But you and your videos have the ability to explain the reasoning behind each step in such a way that it just makes the process so easy to understand and replicate. I feel like the thoroughness of why/how certain things are applied is often overlooked by makeup artists. You will always be my favorite...and your book is superb! My bachelor’s is in history so to read about the history of makeup was absolutely fascinating for me! Please don’t ever stop doing what you do, you are very much appreciated! ✌🏼💜💋

    • @whataboutredlorry
      @whataboutredlorry 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It looks heavy and too much on EVERYONE, not just you. On the instagram photo it looks okay because it heavily lit, with ring lights and all the rest, and then afterwards the photo is edited, color corrected and they use filters. Also, in the absence of context it becomes just about the makeup.
      however, if you saw someone wearing that makeup in daylight - or in a store (Hello Sephora, I've seen your 'artists' looking like clowns) it's really garish and unpleasant in person. It's not even like stage makeup, it's worse than that.
      Caterpillar brows where you can see all the pencil/ink marks, noticably overdrawn lips, overly dry matte lips, cakey looking skin from excess product, harsh lines of contour that haven't been blended well, shiney streaks of highlighter that look like oil slicks.
      Instagram makeup doesn't look good anywhere except the fake world of edited photos and lies that is instagram.

      tzi ling chew yeah but there’s nothing wrong with being a Kardashian kinda girl rather than Diana. To each their own! We don’t need to bring women down because of their makeup choices and styles. Just because they like lighter more natural makeup, it doesn’t mean that a full face of red carpet makeup is wrong!

    Thank you Lisa-- what do you think about using mascara on mature women's lower lashes? So I often I hear that we should leave the lower lashes and liner alone. I agree about the liner but wonder if the mascara wouldn't open up the eye more? Thank you for your expert advice and sharing your years of expertise. I respect your makeup videos the most. Blessings, Sarah

    • @LisaEldridge
      @LisaEldridge  6 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      Yes I always do mascara and a soft smudge of shadow along the lower lash line on mature eyes - really opens them up! I have a playlist here on youtube called 'Makeup and Beauty for the over 50+' Do have a look at some of those for lots of tips X

    • @SarahArnoldTheAccidentalArtist
      @SarahArnoldTheAccidentalArtist 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Oh, thank you for the info! I do a smudge too under my lower lashes and it it adds a lot :) I am thrilled that you replied! I love your videos also because I have the same exact coloring as you and can count on all your color choices for myself except my skin is very dry now-- (almost 63). Cheers! Sarah

    • @HufflepunkNya
      @HufflepunkNya 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Not who you're trying to talk to, but I think if you don't mind I'll chime in anyway- I find a very light coat of mascara on the bottom lashes to be defining and opening. If it draws attention to some sparseness, I'd recommend a dark brown mascara even if you use black on your top lashes and tapping off some excess on a cloth. You'll still get some color and definition, but not blobs or spidery effect. It may also just depend on your eye shape and how you like your face to be framed. Also, like Lisa did in this, I often use a spoolie to go through my top and bottom lashes. Combing through may help make bottom lash mascara more flattering if you're having trouble with it.

    • @SarahArnoldTheAccidentalArtist
      @SarahArnoldTheAccidentalArtist 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, I appreciate that advice. My mascara is all black, so I should try brown. My eyes are large almond and I use a spooly too. Best wishes!

    • @TheBeastBandit
      @TheBeastBandit 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a tip that I usually use for my eyes since they're almond-round and need some opening up at the outer corners: concentrate mascara on the lashes at the outer corners to give your eyes some lift and give them that "mmhmm, come hither" sort of thing. For the lower lashes, do the same thing to open your eyes up!

    I feel like in order to do Instagram makeup you need to perfect some techniques which are just too out there for your average person. They clearly have an IMMENSE amount of talent, so I watch them and praise them but I do not aspire to wear their looks. You however, having a thousand years more experience than any of them, are able to make makeup approachable and easy for anyone at different levels of skill, you are all about enhancing your own features rather than changing them, and that's the kind of makeup I aspire to do on myself, and try to do on myself. Now of course I am swept away by trends too and end up buying some of the products you mention here, but I always find myself doing exactly this, which is just using them to do more understated makeup despite them being products that are hyped for Instagram. The Shape Tape for example and its drugstore counterpart from Makeup Revolution, they're fantastic, but I hear people saying they last on them like a month and I'm here with my tube of concealer that's lasted me since release haha.

    As odd as it sounds, I just love watching Lisa apply makeup. Not only for the makeup look itself, but her various techniques and rhythyms of blending, patting, and swiping is like en effortless, feather light dance and kind of beautiful. She's so seasoned, experienced, and talented in her art form, and looks so relaxed doing makeup, as though the brushes are an extension of her hand. She's simply the best.

    I got tired of full insta-makeup so now I'm obsessed with natural glowy no-makeup makeup, since I don't want to go and re-buy a whole makeup kit I am looking for ways to make things work for me too, this video is very helpful! I tried mixing my (super heavy) Kat von D Lock it foundation with gel moisturizer and it works wonders! It doesn't crease or cake anymore like when I used it alone, and it looks very good even up-close.

    stunning! thank you for this video, Lisa! I love pretty, wearable, looks like this one which are never overdone and look natural in day light. the eye makeup with the lashes looks so pretty! I find the instaglam looks to be too heavy and intense for everyday wear, at least for a 'no foundation' person with sensitive skin like me. I've never been able to achieve a subtle look using such intensely pigmented products. the application technique definitely makes all the difference. I just got some individual lashes today. I look forward to trying them out with a similar look. I usually use my fingers to apply foundation, concealer, cream products and even eyeshadows for a more natural, effortless look, especially when I'm in a hurry.
    note to self: a light and and less-is-more.
    sending you love and best wishes! xx
