Hiya Lyn this is related to a 13ft Olive tree I have on my patio. I noticed in a previous you used tomato feed with organic seaweed. I use organic seaweed feed on my Olive but only get 1 or 2 pea sized olives. It's in a HUGE pot. Do you think it should be in the ground? It survived the beast from the east. I got it in homebase for 100 euro. Olive trees are so expensive but homebase sells them every year with a very thick bark & very very thick foliage last year they were £175. The same size in a garden centre in Bettystown Meath was 570 euro.
@@berniedarbey9010 WOW with your 13 foot Olive Tree Bernie :-D I bet its absolutely beautiful, and thats fantastic it survived the awful beast from the east weather we had, you can definitely plant your Olive tree in the ground if you can give it a sunny position and a well draining soil as they don't do well in very wet soil, in a pot they are more likely to dry out aster in wet weather and it can be a bit difficult when planted in the ground, but if you are able to provide a position where your Olive tree can get as much sun as possible and a well draining soil they can definitely be planted outside especially with our mild Irish winters, thanks so much Bernie for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you and Bonny lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from Belfast for a fantastic Wednesday today XXXX

They shrink during winter to increase the salt concentration inside their cells as frost protection. I start to moisten it quite early in march while it is still in it's dry spot and give it it's first real watering when temperatures approach 20°C during the day. Then it will swell to at least double it's winter size in the span of a couple of days. E. coccineus and E. triglochidiatus are the cold hardiest as far as I know and I'm sure they would survive Ireland winters without any problems. Hi Lyn. At last I got a name for this cactus!! I've got 2 huge pots of it. But I find mine tend to elongate(not due to etiolation) or become columnar and hang over d pots. Yes, I managed to see d yellow flowers on a pup which I grew in a smaller pot, but it subsequently died on me due to rot(I must say I kinda neglected it). D flowers looked artifical plastic ones!!
Thats fantastic you have two big pots of this stunning cactus, it really is a gorgeous cactus to grow, I have noticed my other Parodia magnifica 'warsai' has also grown more columnar as its aged, but this one has stayed more globular, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful weekend XXXX
I have this same cactus and its just one head. Im hoping that it will grow like yours over the years!! Im going to repot into a 8in pot this summer. Mine is kept indoors all winter in my plant room..50d..and south facing window.

I love that one as well 😊 so, when all those pups grow to the size they are now, do the spines compete with each other? Do they poke into their neighbor doing damage to the neighbor? I always wonder how pups dont hurt each other in a tight cluster like that. Its beautuful 😍 which is your oldest cactus that you have in your collection? Would you do a video on your oldest one, as in how long you have had it, as ppoaes to the age of the cactus 🤗
So happy you love this big old Parodia Nina, the good news with this cactus is the spines are very soft and the pups are able to touch each other without poking each other haha, but some of my other clumping cacti often poke each other and I have to separate them, the oldest cactus I have I think must be my Echinopsis multi headed and also my Schlumbergera truncata as they are both possibly 75 -80 years old, I got them from a friend many years ago who had grown them for about 25 years and he got them from an elderly neighbour who had grown them for around 25-30 years, I will definitely plan on making a video about the oldest ones in my collection very soon, thanks so much Nina for your wonderful Friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Spain for a wonderful weekend XXXX
Wow what a great video! I learn so much from all of your videos. I was wondering about the pups and you answered my question straight away. :) Is there a point where you have to separate the pups? They look so beautiful all together. Is this one ready to repot? Interesting to see the flowers too. So exciting to see that it seeds too! I noticed that you have several of the same kind of catici or succulent. Do you have clubs you go to where you exchange plants? Can’t say enough how i love this plant and I would not be surprised to see it in a botanical garden here in California. Just lovely. Have a great plant day to you too.
So happy you love this wonderful old Parodia Mary Elizabeth :-D the good news is the pups can be left on this Parodia and never have to be removed unless to propagate them, I think I may need to repot this one in a year or two as its growing so close to the side of the pot haha, there is a fantastic cactus and succulent society club here in Belfast and also in Dublin where we get to exchange plants and meet other plant growers, thanks so much Mary Elizabeth for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to California for a fantastic Friday today XXXX

Thats fantastic you have this cactus too Michelle
So did you get that when you were 3? 🙂 Lovely plant Lyn, you must be very pleased with it 😊 Hope you and Hans have a lovely evening 😊🌵
hahahaha Ziggy, you are so kind, so happy you love this big old Parodia, it really is one of my golden oldies haha, thanks so much for your wonderful Friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you and beautiful Jackie lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Friday today XXXX
@@desertplantsofavalon I’m so glad you get to meet other growers. It’s so fun to be with people who grow the same plants.
