Back in 2020 I bought the made in China Krator Tailgate Assist from Amazon and it worked great until the bottom of the strut snapped like a dry twig a few months later. Turns out the where the bottom of the strut that connect to the truck is made with cheap pot metal. Looking around I found a different tailgate assist at local NAPA that looks like all the othesr and it still working fine almost 2 years later. But they all have the same problem with the retainer clip popping off at the top. The zip ties definitely work, until they don't and the tailgate slams down. Fortunately the clip was sitting on the tailgate and 2 more zip ties latter, I was good to go again
Great tip at the end about the loose retainer clip. Mine came loose today and that's how I found your video. I'm gonna reattach it tomorrow morning and try the ziptie idea
I like to hear we’re trying to break that bolt! But honestly, that thing is busting up my tools is like it’s Welld or a mess of Loctite. How in the world did you break that thing loose?
I ordered a Dauntless, and got a Chinese imitation. It was missing the retainer clip that holds the assembly on the bolt. It took no time to install but now I have to order one with a clip or Jerry rig something that’ll work.
If you got the Krator Tailgate Assist from Amazon, it's a piece of Chinese junk. The bottom is made with cheap pot metal and mine snapped after a few months. I did find a replacement at a local NAPA tho and it's still going strong almost 2 years later
@@DaveBuildsIt I should say a little different than your last truck with the new engine and trans in the 2020. We have a whopping 11,000 miles and no problems to speak of other than the two recalls.
Great video. how is it holding up? I keep hearing these little assist guys fail because all the weight is on one side and it over works it. Would two assists be better than one, is that even possible? Ohh your wife is a strong little lady 😋
It held up well. The Pro-4X in the video was totaled in June 2022. My wife's AC went out so I let her borrow my truck so that she wouldn't sweat her face off. She was t-boned and the truck did some impressive gymnastics before resting on its wheels again. Thankfully, it was all low speed and no one was injured - not so much as a scratch. I found an identical 2020 Frontier Pro-4X with only 2400 miles and snatched it up. The first mod I did was install another Dauntless Tailgate Assist.
@@DaveBuildsIt Sorry to hear about your P4X glad the Mrs is ok. So did you install dual tailgates? I'm about to install this Mod next week. Sorry for the late reply.

This video made my day. Great humor and nice instruction. Your Lady is 💪 strong. True statement about the happy wife. 😃
She is a good sport. Thanks for watching!
She has a nice Frontier! love the Frontier!
It's actually mine. She drives a Maxima (like a bat outta hell). :)

Glad that the video helped! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the great video and step by step explanation

i need one that helps me lift the tailgate as well as its super heavy
Ain’t gonna lie having your wife break the bolt was a nice touch 😂
Awesome😂
Thank you!
Damn I though alligators were the only things I had to worry about in Florida but I guess the butterflys 🦋 are pretty vicious as well 😅. 3:22
Looks just like my wife’s 2020
I find this comment an odd coincidence now that I own an identical 2020 Frontier Pro 4X after my wife totaled the one featured in this video.
@@DaveBuildsIt Little different new engine and trans👍

How did you got the tailgate bracket bolt loose? Because I haven't been able to and now the darn bolt head is almost rounded up.
Hit mine with a little torch a little propane torch
The wife. JK, I cranked on it with a breaker bar.
Heat it

I'd try 2 because I had 1 on the left side and it bent the flimsy bracket it came with. Made it useless. I had to take mine off.
