An interesting tid bit is that when you see and impact wrench or even driver drive something in far without impacting that's in fact a result of mainly spring size and a little bit hammer dog height.
Put a massive motor on something and it will still impact super early if the spring is thin and weak. It starts releasing sooner.
But you're still correct. The only reason the spring is bigger is because the new motor is beefier and can drive it no problem.

I never stopped to think about it, but the delay for impacting being based on the spring strength and less so the motor (though the motor needs to be powerful enough to overcome the spring force) makes perfect sense. It was quite the difference between the 891 and 894, which means they must have really beefed up the spring.

It's sad that the only manufacturing plant where this DCF891 and its daddy DCF900 was born and produced here in Fort Mill SC is shutting down after 10yrs of operation. I'm happy though to have been part of both projects, but it really breaks my heart to see this go to away, these tools are my babies. Great review by the way. Have a great weekend.

Thanks! And that's awesome that you go to be part of building those top notch impacts :) I'd love to hear stories about it!

@@SomeGuysGarage Building a raised garden bed with pressure treated 4x4s. Five layers. And all I have is an old Black & Decker drill with a quickly-dying battery. I did not know there was such a thing as an impact driver. Regards from Baltimore.

@@jimpeter3453 I've done the same sort of thing, used my old DCD996 hammer drill with a 1/2" auger bit and then drove rebar through the layers to secure everything. The DCD996 did it but wasn't super happy driving the auger bit through so many layers, but the new 999 would do it no problem.
If you're driving 1/2" lag bolts instead of rebar pins, the DCF891 or DCF900 would be the ticket for sinking those after a 3/8" predrill with any ol' drill.

Ever get yourself a 4x4 yet? There's a whole bunch of tools we use that are marketed towards the 4x4 community we'd love to see too whether it be for extraction, trailside fabrication or maintenance.
After you joined the forum I've been looking for things like that. I'll keep checking back. Thanks for the videos 👍

Nothing proper offroad at the moment...there's definitely a whole bunch of those types of tools that would be fun to try out/test in the future though!

Bro 891 is a Chinese version. Pay attention to its handle. This pattern was only on screwdrivers. I bought the same one and will check it tomorrow. But I did not find 891 with the same handle pattern in America. And I think it is a good fake.

I bought the 891 from an authorized dealer in Canada and the pictures on Dewalt's site exactly match my handle...I'm pretty sure I'm good, but check yours out.

Haven't had a bolt that my 891 couldn't remove. Granted I'm no pro, just a weekend warrior keeping his old cars going.
Also got the 921 and tbh that is used for 90% of my work. Wish I would've gotten the 3/8, but the 921 was a better price at the time.
921 with 1.7ah PS is the weekend warrior meta build.

Yeah, the 891 is a solid impact...If I were only buying one impact, I'd take it over the 921/923, simply because the 921 isn't quite enough for those heavy suspension/chassis bolts and most people have an impact driver you can use an adapter in. But ya, the winning combo is 891/923 :)

@@SomeGuysGarage I get excited when I get to break out the 891, but that's rare lol. My 891 with a weighted socket took off a Lexus crank bolt in 3 seconds.
