I can’t believe how much the zoo has changed. It’s not my local zoo, but it used to be when I lived there. I remember when they still had Polar Bears, then replaced them with the Bald Eagle. It’s been a while since I’ve been and it’s probably the only thing in RI that I miss. But where I am now isn’t lacking on some good animal encounters.
Love this video! Short and sweet. Those otters are absolutely adorable! I find it very strange that Ostriches are going in such a rocky habitat like that, would be interesting to see how they adapt to it. I’m assuming those 4 cheetahs are juvenile/teenagers, correct? Anyway, I would love to visit this zoo, it seems simple and serine.
As a kid in the 80s I lived going to this zoo, I remember the old original elephant house (is that still there), the polar bear exhibit was one of my favorites as was tge building the flamingos were housed in back then. Then I went back in my early 20s and boy had it changed, back them the elephant house was still there but no elephants and I can't remember what else was still there just I remember it had changed a lot and now looks like I wouldn't recognize it other than the big lake in the middle which I fondly remember as well.
God I miss living in Rhode Island and going to the zoo. It's only been a few months since I left but I :') miss it so much Thanks for giving me an update from home ;w;
I like that Islands will be happening next. I know as a fact, however, that the wallaby exhibit is too small for a Kangaroo exhibit- the AZA policy on exhibit size has changed a lot in recent years and is part of the reason why we are phasing out kangaroos from Capron now. In my opinion, I'd rather see them not get kangaroos at Roger Williams and instead look into other popular island species from around the world. Options could include koala, lemurs, clouded leopard, fossa, Japanese Macaque, little blue penguin, galapagos tortoise, orangutan, malayan tapir, cassowary, etc.

The last time I went here was about 2018 or so and it seems like in just that amount of time tons have changed!
