- Here’s a clip from a vintage (1992) WQED statewide special produced by Rick Sebak & his team that celebrates diners (and dinors!) across the state, featuring some scrumptious comfort food, business owners, cooks, waitresses, waiters and enthusiastic customers.

I lived in State College until 11 yrs old. So many great memories at PSU, Rec Hall, plays & musicals, camps and so much more. I am very sad Ye Old College Diner is closed

This is exactly what it was like when I went to PSU during that era ('92-'96)
Was the same 1989-1993. Tragedy it was demolished. Couldn't believe it was going. Thought it, of all places, would be there forever. I was one of the drunk kids in the back.
i was a kid in state college during that era. 1st thru 5th grade
Oh I love this one it's where the guy makes sticky buns and as they're panning through the line of people listen closely you can hear the one guy say smoke weed everyday it's hilarious
I totally caught that when I first watched it, while getting high.
@@JoseGonz0908 are you from pittsburgh? Cuz that's the only way to watch any Rick sebak special. I was lucky enough to actually go up there my friends older sister went to college up there and honestly some of the best bud of my entire life I seen up there.
I'm from Memphis, Tennessee! Somehow watched the full documentary on TH-cam years ago and loved it. I live for U.S geography and culture, so it was right up my alley, I also loved the nostalgic feel, especially being that I grew up in the 90s.
@@JoseGonz0908 cool yeah I grew up in a place called Wexford it's like 15 minutes north of the city of Pittsburgh I was born in 1982 the station of WQED anything made by Rick sebak is awesome he's like a Pittsburgh national treasure. My favorite one is Pennsylvania roadshow cuz growing up a lot of those places I seen with my sister and my mom and dad when we were younger. Have you ever even been to pittsburgh? Cuz I've never been to Tennessee but I've always wondered I know they got great food
Never been to Pennsylvania, always wanted to though, I used to want to go to Philly, and visit love park. Here in Memphis we mainly do good BBQ.
I have the dvd that has this diner featured. It is sad that it closed. The food looks amazing. People coming together and having a good meal.
That's me @3:47 - 3:51, shoving what I assume is Unimart Death Dog in my mouth saying "Hey man how ya doing?". My roommate is the guy @4:37 saying "Look at all these weird people". I really miss those days.
Unimart .99 cent Italian subs in the toaster oven was definitely dorm room fine dining at 3am.(1984/85)

Eat'n Park still uses their recipe if you're from Pittsburgh you know about eating car just ask for em fresh

From 1984-1990, then 1994-1995 the Diner was my go-to after leaving Mr C's/Players, or any other bar in State College. I miss it. Even with questionable quality, I was too drunk to realize it was bad (I was a cook too!), but the stickies were ALWAYS awesome!
The diner closed in 2018, and is now a Hello Bistro. However, you can still get grilled stickies at Eat n' Park, at several local grocery stores, and online.
The stickies are terrible since they aren't made there anymore. The last owner ran this place into the ground!
@@SuperSuzyg So I'm guessing General Mills or some big food corporation makes the Grilled Stickies now? I must have missed something. And I'm sure the diner was great for it's time, but closed because of changing trends and declining quality.
No not a big corporation--just the previous owner of The Diner. He has some place out near Boalsburg where they are made.
@@SuperSuzyg So you're saying the last owner of the Diner was not a State College native?
No I'm not saying he wasn't a native of State College--or that he was. I don't think he was. I think he'd gone to Penn State and was living out in Pittsburgh before he came back and bought The Diner.
The Adametz ran it in the 40s and my mom took care of them in their elder years in the 80s. Loved getting stickies as a kid

I don't know when it began, but I ate Grilled Stickies there over 50 years ago. An order was $.55. When my Dad went to Penn State in the late 1940's it was the College Diner. When I went there it was the New College Diner, or the NCD for short. In later years "New" was changed to "Ye Olde." Now it's gone. "Ye Olde" had many fancy pastries that wern't available in my day, but the Grilled Stickies are the same as they were 50 years ago. Thankfully they are still being made and are available in several retail stores and mail order.
