The marriage turned out to be pretty awful, so we divorced in my early 30s. I had never heard of a-sexuality until much later, and in my 30s thought it was the thing to find another relationship. Fortunately, during that time, I did not live with any men, and if it turned into a relationship, it always seemed like another job, especially if I got to this physical part. I finally realized that the physical part was the worst for me, and the romantic bull-crap was the second worst. I stopped dating in my early 40s, and it's been over 20 years, and those are the best decades, ever.

The local Indian (mostly) movie theater is my "bar" here in the Gulf. I'm on a first name basis with the employees. I got absorbed into a 25th college reunion with a group of Indian family men at F1, and struck up a lovely platonic friendship with a young gay man in Albania over Christmas. I still get an annual birthday greeting from a St. Louis firefighter I met at a baseball game 22 years ago. Nothing romantic with ANY of these folks. Simple mutual kindness and respect. Being single gives you freedom and ease to do what you want. Men need us more than we need them. Cool, wealthy, eccentric, childfree aunt life for me.

The reason why men can’t understand it is because women often have higher EQ’s than men do and as such, they are able to adapt better and make friends provided they are friendly. Women are also more skillful in cultivating those friendships into long lasting platonic relationships that are also intimate in a way that men have trouble being with other men because they don’t want to be thought of as gay. Women can sit with her girlfriends, hold hands and ugly cry together 😂, in many female friend circles, cheek kisses and platonic but affectionate touch is a common thing. Women tend to be more touchy feely and we know that skinship stimulates the same parts of the brain that produce dopamine and soothing. This leads to happy women. Being single leaves more time to build those friendships and receive those happy hormones that men often miss out on with their male friends. So when women say they are happy being single with their friendships……men just don’t understand because they get their dopamine from women the same way everyone else does. Basically……women are walking happy drugs.

I am a happy bubbly person, I am positive, I love being myself and I realized this kind of personality attracts people who seek to destroy my joy in life almost like they think they will gain my joy through osmosis, or that I need me to be miserable with them so they just make me miserable. When they talk about self improvement it's a lifestyle hack or something that's designed to attract more women. It's never self improvement from a place of self love and seeking deeper Understanding. It's always externally motivated. They wouldn't bother to hit the gym or read a book for their own sake. And it is a function of their entitlement that they believe they deserve a woman in exchange for these activities.

I got absorbed into a 25th college reunion with a group of Indian family men at F1, and struck up a lovely platonic friendship with a young gay man in Albania over Christmas. I still get an annual birthday greeting from a St. Louis firefighter I met at a baseball game 22 years ago. Nothing romantic with ANY of these folks. Simple mutual kindness and respect.
