I had an Ozark Trail tent for six years and every single year I would leave it up for months at a time through wind, rain, snow, hail, storms of all types. I finally had to replace it after six years because eventually the fabric got so brittle that it eventually failed in high wind due to the UV damage the fabric had been through over time. This was an $89.00 tent.
Thank you so much for both videos of this tent! I own a similar tent but larger, I was thinking about buying two of these for my camping guests. The price of two is close to what I paid for mine. I wish I had seen your videos earlier. Thanks again you have done a great job! Your experiences and the suggestions I read, have convinced me to make the purchase.
Want a cool piece of advice? Use Paracord for your Guy lines to the roof or rainfly. When you draw them snug , the rain runs to the cord and soaks it. Once it does, water runs THROUGH THEM like little pipes to your pegs, and well away from your shelter.
I’ve got a yurt. Nice tent. Bought it for a bug in situation for the backyard, j i c, and it’s perfect in combination with a smaller pop up tent. Good to know it’ll stand up well to some use and wear and tear. Thanks for making the video. It qualified my purchase and shut up my wife. Keep up the good work!👍🏻✌🏻
Stephen Hughes Yes! I'm glad I helped you convince her aha love the bug "in" idea I assume you're in a warmer climate so with a nice tent and a pop up you basically have a serious lil home away from home
I bought one for me and 10 yr old for boyscout outings and I was very happy with the yurt! The style and space inside impressed my son as well as his friends!
I'm sure by now somebody has told you this or you figured it out. I was homeless and I lived in a tent for over a year with a queen-size cot. what I did to prevent Holes in the floor was get pieces of carpet and lay it down underneath of each foot or Pole
We just bought this tent- my girlfriend put it up by herself, after a few setbacks learned it’s much better to set the stakes up first, and it sleeps well. 2 nights at Jordan Lake, in NC. Your videos on the Yurt were both informative and fun to watch. We subscribed. Gonna watch your other vids on carving and 3D painting. Thanks, Ronnie & Janie, Buies Creek, NC
THe loops inside can be used to hold back the bug screen by rolling up the screen bringing the loops inside around it pushing one loop thru the other and using a wooden toggle thru the exposed loop as a catch.
After watching your two videos we picked up this yurt yesterday. The doors/flaps on ours can be held back with a sewn in loop n catch. I see the loops on yours but didn't see the catch part ,wondering why. The floor feels a bit thin but overall it seems fair for the price paid. Thank you for doing the videos on the yurt, it was a great help. We are using ours for island camping and will try to upload vids on how the floor holds up.
Sterling M oh man island camping would be great! just make sure you're shaded and have extra long stakes. I'm glad you like the tent too and glad I could clear it up before you bought it. mine could be missing a part a proper part on the door but it makes little difference for me, I can wrap the flap on the tethers, as long as your tent has all the things its supposed to come with!
The people who lost their homes to the recent hurricane should use these to help shelter their families. Please Walmart or manufactories ☮️❤️☀️🌈🌎😇... send some to help!
Just a thought, maybe get a smaller hallway rug or even just a piece of carpet to put your cot on. Personally, I always put just a cheap Harbor Freight tarp down to protect the tent floor.get it long enough and use it as a front apron for the tent entrance to keep dirt out of the tent.
Wooden coasters, under cot legs, chair legs ect.will save your flooring material.Inexpensive and small.Or tennis balls with small slit will slip on and off easily....just a suggestion. Great vid and review.Chers fron Nova Scotia , Canada!!!
Get some thick carpet samples from a carpet store and use them as floor protectors for anything that has feet you want to put on the floor. It will make it last much longer and less likely to puncture on soft ground. Thanks for sharing.
I agree, I did with my tent and it really worked. I used waterproof carpeting. It was easy to lay down and gave the floor a nice feel. I think you should also use a tarp underneath.
Thanks for puting the yurt info out -- i got one!!! I can put my cot in and run enough as well i can stand up i'd like an awning over it -- i saw the hail but rain - will it be soaked so anyway thanks again! All the best
I highly suggest taking some spare cordage and tie two prusset knots at the front guy lines for securing the door better. Adding grommets to door mat is perfect. As for a long term tent camping this can deal with up to four people semi-comfortally. Understand that you'd need to put stuff away. Utilize outside area as best as you can. The ground tarp ideally should have a second tarp underneath. Secondly, I lean away from cots in general but I get some individuals prefer something bed like. Thirdly.. Coloring will occur and I think that's just dirt and other things. Mostly aesthetic, but do consider cleaning from time to time. Fourtly. The shelter itself isn't meant to deal with cold as much as the sleeping bag and clothing is meant for that. As long as it's highly water and wind resistant its a good buy. I like your review.
We have two of the ozark trail tp tents and they have held up to ALOT. Buying the yurt one tomorrow for a camping trip this weekend. Me and my wife live in Colorado maybe we could do some camping if your OK being around kids also lol.
Eventually the material start to rip through do to the sun exposure I found out you need to put a blue tarp or something similar to block the Sun and rain to get a longer life out of it. But I guess that's what duct tape is for looks like a great place to camp have fun.
Wow! Certainly worth the hundred bucks for the "yurt". I imagine the way the yurt will break down is from ultraviolet light degradation of the fabric. Eventually the fabric will lose its strength and start to tear. If it's set up every day, I'd be surprised if you get more than six months of use.
Ty Brady I really wish I hand the time or land to test that! I'm sure you're right that its fall will be the eventual deterioration from all the sun and weather. and its a Wal-Mart tent so certainly the fabric cant be the best. its holding up very well so far though but it would be interesting to see how long it could really last. we get snow and below freezing here so I'm sure six months in the same spot wouldnt end well!
Iv been wanting to do but no 1 wants to. Lol i have few tents used once had n sold n bought again. When u buy a tent if doesnt say waterproff do u have to spray ur dself?
Would recommend a tennis ball on the end of center mast. Just cut a lil hole in the ball and shove it on the end of the pole.. Will extend the life of that stitching in the top by more evenly distribute the tension against that pole
Have you had any issues staking it in the ground? Want to invest in a $500+ yurt and camp across the US but worried about not being able to stake all those stakes down in rocky substrates.
Saw this tent at Walmart and am thinking of setting one up on my back deck over the winter for my dog house and for overwintering flowers. We have relatively mild winters in the (almost) deep south. What is your opinion?
I saw this at Walmart and really want to get it. Your video has convinced me. Main question: do you use an additional ground cloth or does the floor suffice?
Stephen Monk I'm glad I helped! the floor tarp is not the strongest, I haven't a had any tears but a number of abrasions. its not laid out in this video but I usually have large mats and dog beds over a lot of where I walk on the floor just for extra protection. I'd definitely recommend mats if you are using it heavily!
I had the Ozark trail instant hexagon tent till it collapsed in a bad storm. Loved that tent, but you've sold me on the fake Yurt. How long would you say your set up time takes on average? Any rain come in from the top air vents?
Set up time is usually around ten minutes. If you're on uneven surface it can take a little more time kajiggering the stakes all where you want them. And nope! No issue with anything coming through the top!
I'm sure there is a way. I've heard of people spray painting the white tents, soaking em in dye, and whathaveyou but I haven't really followed up on that. I'd say it'd be good to experiment on some cheap little tents or pieces of the material before goin whole hog on this guy
Well I'm 5'9 and and if I'm measuring from the center pole I have a circle with a lil over 3ft radius where I can stand fully, with some more space to stand by the door.
You're right! I put that in the discription of the update I still call it my yurt even though I know thats wrong. Its just more fun to say yurt than tent 😁 Yuuurt
Barry Folland I am sadly no longer in the tent It is officially too cold here at night for my poor dog so we found a nicely insulated house with walls and everything I really like this tent so its bein stored until warmer weather Maybe the occasional winter camping trip, we'll see Still no leaks or changes from since this video
Well its certainly going to be cramped but I could see a queen mattress fitting in the back and a cot on each side. The third cot would probably be blocking the door or regardless taking up most foot space but I'd bet on all 5 people being able to sleep in it
To me a tent is a freaking tent. I have a Cabela's lodge tent and guess what a tree limb fell and puncture a small hole in the corner of it. They all will rip easily. No matter what I still love tent camping. I think I like tent camping better than my palomino slide in camper. Bottom line get out of the house and go camping people !! Enjoys yourselves. Peace to all.
There are spring fed creeks and rivers, great place to live, lots of Mark Twain National Forest, people are overall very friendly and helpful...okay, it ain't the Rockies, but it is a good place to live.

You can get furniture rubber disks to go under your cot legs. They spread the load a little more.
Brilliant video dude thank you just brought one from watching your video peace ✌️ out
I love this. I am so pleased to see this review. Best wishes.
I always thought for that table was to add a thin piece of plywood to fit on top to add a hard surface.
I am going to make a small round wooden table top with a hole in the middle for the center pole and just set it on top of the folding table.
Good video, great points and a informative review! Keep up the good work and happy travels.

@@caroltaxman571 I won't set up a tent or bivy sack with out a ground cloth. Keeps them cleaner and my gear last longer.
mine endured a couple Wyoming storms but eventually it poked through the top. soften the contact of that center pole.
Like your video and review of the Walmart sold yurt. I am considering buying one.
I have the teepee they make. Good company. Keep on camping!

The color on the tent is probably sap dripping from tree leaves. This is a fine mist. It doesn't wash off with the rain.

I've just started camping with the Yurt. Doe it leak during heavy rains? Thanks.
Look at new video for details!
Yes, last night it leaks thru the window flaps. First night in it. Florida rains though
Have you had any issues staking it in the ground? Want to invest in a $500+ yurt and camp across the US but worried about not being able to stake all those stakes down in rocky substrates.
try rebar stakes
use mcdonalds trays cut in half for each of the bed's legs
I have a cot like that, I use an area rub under to keep from making possible holes
Did you spray the yurt with silicone before the storms mentioned in this video?
Yep! Especially the seals and its held up through a decent amount of weather since this
Saw this tent at Walmart and am thinking of setting one up on my back deck over the winter for my dog house and for overwintering flowers. We have relatively mild winters in the (almost) deep south. What is your opinion?
What about the orange triangle patches at top ? Are they vents ? Open & close from inside.. ???
Can you make it into a hot tent? Can you add a stove if you put in a stove jack?

Thanks...
Idk if you're still checking comments but how well does it hold up to high winds?
It holds up remarkably well against any weather conditions imaginable!!! :3 namaste
Just was wondering if you applied any waterproofing products to your yurt....Thanks
Does it leak??? That's the big question. Are there puddles on floor or coming in from the stitching or any place?
Thomas Whitten course not! that goes along with living through all the hail and storms

I'm sorry I dont remember the actual brand name but was just the basic silicone seal they sell in the tent aisle!
How much space can you fully stand up inside of the tent? I like the tent but don't want to crawl around on my knees inside

Eric Darbyshire there has yet to be snow here to test it

And the hail test
And the inch o snow test ahah
