Thank you for evoking childhood memories. ❤️ Mum fondly nicknamed the pencil cactus, the skeleton tree. I remember it being quite tall, planted in a huge pot, and having a milky sap which we call ''agta''. A very resourceful person, it was what she used as a Christmas tree while I was growing up. It just lay inside the house most of the year, but when the Yule season came around, it became the star. My big sister and I were always the ones tasked to adorn it with some Christmas balls and lights. 🎄
I just got this plant at Lowes. It's very cool...love the stick form. It drew me in right away, when I saw it. One thing about this plant which is important. It has a milky sap that is toxic and some people may react to it, if you cut one of the stems. The sap flows easily when cut, and it's important to not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if you get that sap on your hands. It can cause a rash on your skin, or burn. Also, something to think about if you have a pet. Just be careful. Otherwise, great plant! Thank you, Summer!
Firesticks has become a very popular landscape plant in SoCal . Like many euphorbias they are primarily summer growers. They are xeric but will grow faster with irrigation. The new growth is the most colorful, being a mix of yellow and red. As the growth ages and gets shaded by newer branches it gradually turns green. To propagate, you just take a cutting of any size, from a few inches to many feet, and stick it in moist ground. That’s it! No prepping, digging, etc.. It’s good to let the cutting callus for a few days, to prevent rot. They require no care , except to prune away any branches that sprawl in an undesirable direction. They grow over 20 feet tall in California.
How cute is this little fire stick. Thank you so much for sharing!! I've never grown this one before, it's so interesting! 💖 So much love to you Summer!🌸🦋🌸
How much sunlight does it need? I have a large south facing window, though it is somewhat blocked by another building maybe 200 feet away but otherwise good light
Hey! Thanks for your amazing videos! I've got a Pitanga plant (Evgenia), I brought it from the Canary islands and grew from a seed. It's hitting the sealing now, but I never saw it blossoming. How can I encourage it to blossom? :) Thank you!
I've propagated from cuttings in water after exposed end calloused. Takes some time for root to grow but transfers easily to a well draining soil. Mine has the small leaves in the summer.
I live is west indies and I have a 2m +specimen, it's never been red or yellow only green. Also you might want to be careful with the sap, it can be irritating for the eyes or even the skin.
This plant is highly TOXIC. Please take extreme care when handling. I recommend using gloves and eye protection Or stay away. The white sap got on my hand ✋️ and I was rushed to the emergency room due to my eyes burning, face numbness, and mucus running out of my nose, I also was temporarily BLIND. My vision was impared for 4 days, and I am still sensitive to light 🌞. I was also hallucinating. Maybe they're called "fire sticks" because if the poison gets into your body, you will feel and see fire 🔥. This plant can kill you. Please be careful.
This plant is so toxic that my parents scolded me when i got one. Its sap is used to remove warts. Because of its caustic sap. I keep my plant on the roof of my garage (there is a fire escape stairway)
I've heard the sap from these Euphorbia is particularly toxic and best to keep away from pets and children. Care needs to be taken when re-potting or taking cuttings, such as gloves and even eye protection.

A nice little succulent that gives some architectural shapes in the house. Great video
Finally got one. Beautiful orange tips. I love it. Thanks for the great information
This plant reminds me of the branches of some corals.
Is it just me or doesn't the variety of Euphorbias look like corals?

Great video! I love this plant!
I hope to buy this cactus , thanks for the video Summer.
pencil Cactus. Thank you. We all love to right our thoughts down . Especially those weepy euphorbiaceae (latex does that!)
Will you have to smash that pot if you ever need to repot it?
Maybe she practices Wabi-sabi and will glue it back together.
Is red sticks a different variety or it's all the same?
I love that pot. Soo cute.
Does that pot have holes in the bottom...i like the shape
Reminds me of Cooksonia a lil bit, something prehistoric. Perhaps Paleozoic
Where did you get that beautiful pot ?
My plant has turned brown on the lower branches. Am I over watering? Do I prune off the brown or dead branches? The top is nice and green.
so beAutiful i will look for that type of plant
i have one and mine is red and orange ...quite nice 😊

Is that pencil cactus has a toxic sap. Please advise
It's highly toxic and should be kept away from people and pets.
How do you cut and root a euforbia or pencil cactus plant
I've propagated from cuttings in water after exposed end calloused. Takes some time for root to grow but transfers easily to a well draining soil. Mine has the small leaves in the summer.
Can I ask where on the stems you cut them? I have a sizable Euphorbia tirucalli and would like to try propagating.
Most of my successful rooters are cut at an intersection point/crotch. Good luck!
I saw one in Spain, it was HUGE
I'm from India and just got a cutting..been trying to propagate in the sand. let's see if it survives. I think its a gorgeous plant!!
Might be a good idea to mention how caustic and astringent the sap is, and to wear gloves when repotting/cutting.
I live is west indies and I have a 2m +specimen, it's never been red or yellow only green. Also you might want to be careful with the sap, it can be irritating for the eyes or even the skin.
I am early yay one of your fan. Love that plant
When is the dormant period
I have a plant that popped up in the yard up here in south Dakota. Kinda looks like this plant. Flower is very strange.
How is this a care video?

Is this plant don't have leaf? CMIIW
My fire stick, abit different, without leaves and a lot of milky rub.
Mine is growing out of control !!!!outdoors without any extra care.
Cool plant but the milky sap is toxic for pets and peeps!
@Erika With a K exactly !!!

Philipines called pobring kahoy or poor tree

That is and should always be (start if you haven't) standard practice for ALL Euphorbia
Today I stole a branch of this plant for propagation, and i can say you, small red ants really like the sap of this plant and surely infest them...😆
The sap from these can be very toxic to humans. Best to get something else.
