    I’m really glad you addressed the mass gainers. I’ve had positive results using it. As much as people downplay mass gainers if you’re a hardgainer like me and have trouble taking in a lot of food they work as advertised.

      @@c0smic.Cha0s I'm sure they work great in the short term. But honestly, the major downside is the health risks that come with consuming the 'too good to be true' stuff like mass gainers on the daily. Calories from maltodextrin specifically can increase the risk of several digestive cancers and that's just one of a paragraph of other ingredients that I have no idea what are going to do to me good or bad.

    I would add that consuming more sodium doesn’t increase weight because you get more thirsty, it causes your body to retain more water so that it has the proper concentration of electrolytes. When you consume salt, osmoreceptors in the hypothalamus sense that there is too high of a sodium concentration, which stimulates ADH secretion. ADH then causes your kidneys to absorb more water so you don’t pee it out. This is why we tell patients with peripheral edema and hypertension to reduce salt intake

    What about egg protein supplements? Egg protein is high quality too so I guess thr only reason Whey appears here exclusively, its because its the most popular or common product?

    • @Magic_beans_
      @Magic_beans_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I’m pretty sure he kept it to whey because this is the Made Simple version. Whey’s cheap and readily available, so newbies don’t have to agonize over what kind and what brand, and this one has a 5-protein proprietary time-release blend, do I need that? (No.)
      If whey doesn’t sit well with you though, egg, beef, soy, and vegan blends are all great (and if it’s a digestive thing, hydrolyzed whey can also help). Also, just getting enough protein during the day is way more important than what type or brand.
      [Side note, in this video’s Fat Loss counterpart he also mentions casein since it tends to be more filling.]

    Are those 5 extra pounds when taking creatine just after a week of taking 5 grams a day or after a loading week of 20 grams a day?

    Dr Mike the macros for muscle gain is the same with cutting????

  • @Amar061
    @Amar061 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    When I am cutting, I find it nearly impossible to meat my macros (or better said the balance between macros), without whey powder, and tbh, mass-gainers make it the easiest to hit them while cutting.
    I see most non-hormonal supplements as Quality of Life add-ons, rather than necessities. They save time and make it easier to match goals and you pay for that, not for extra magical muscles appearing on you.

      If you’re getting enough protein from whole food you don’t need protein powder, you need I believe 1 or 0.7g of protein per pound body weight ( I could be wrong). But more than that has no actual benefits, and I’ve watched couple of his videos and others explaining this well.

    For me, I can never eat enough it seems.
    I just try to get in at least 40-60g of protein each meal first and foremost, then the rest from carbs.
    Fats will hit themselves if you are eating enough.
    I'm never hungry ever on a bulk, it's so disgustingly filling even with mixing in fast food.

      What about scooping out peanut butter dude, easiest calories ever

    • @TypicallyUniqueOfficial
      @TypicallyUniqueOfficial 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Suba932 yeah bro, but the problem with peanut butter for me is my body digests it super slowly.
      If I eat a pbj sandwich I will be full for 6 hours, but if I eat chicken breast and rice or some fish and rice with a glass of cranberry juice I will be ready to eat again in another 3 or 4 hours.
      Fat is very very satiating to my body, so that's why I try to eat as much carbs and protein, because they digest faster and I can easily drink a glass of OJ or Cranberry juice along with the food.

      If you're not concerned about fructose, jam and especially honey are great sources of tasty pure carbs. You can stack up on calories and carbs without adding anything else by just pouring honey over them. Toast with honey and a banana will easily get you 500-1000 calories without being very full.
      Rice is the typical bulking carb, but my experience is that it absorbs so much water during cooking, it can actually end up being deceptively filling for its calories.

    • @TypicallyUniqueOfficial
      @TypicallyUniqueOfficial 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@someguycalledcerberus9805 yes! I learned about jams, fruit juice and honey far too late.
      It's just as good as other carbs if you combine them with other stuff, but I agree.
      For me, here's my main bulking meals.
      1. Pasta with bolognese (super easy to eat a lot of it and digests fast).
      2. Basmati rice/chicken/beef with salmon.
      3. Some kind of tortilla wrap.
      4. Bagels with some kind of protein.
      For my stomach, white rice falls through me! Potatoes are what satiate me so I eat them when I'm cutting more so than rice. I hate brown rice so I don't eat it.
      Then with each meal I will have some kind of juice, honey or jam with either some bread and butter or I'll mix them into the food.

    Is there an recommendation for salt intake? Depending bodyweight deficit or bulk?

    • @Magic_beans_
      @Magic_beans_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Judging from Dr. Mike’s other videos, the absolute amount doesn’t matter for most people*, you may just want to keep it steady so the water weight fluctuations don’t mask your actual gain or loss.
      * about 10% of people are salt sensitive, meaning higher levels of sodium elevate their blood pressure. They (and people with less than ideal kidney function) should keep sodium to a minimum for health reasons. For the rest of us, the sodium we ingest today is excreted tomorrow, so it’s not a concern.

    • @StrengthHacksCoaching
      @StrengthHacksCoaching 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Empty calories, alcohol also slows down protein synthesis so if you drink often, you won't be able to make gains like somebody who does not drink/barely drinks

      What he ☝ said, but at the same time there are plenty of jacked dudes who drink all the time sooo... do you have a show to prep for? If not, don't worry about it.
      The calories will get you though if you're the sort who puts on fat easy. But then if you've been drinking all this time and you are happy with your body fat as it is (and you're in good health) then I wouldn't worry about that either 😁
