in 1987 I saw a schoolmate try to use a standing dropkick in a real fight, in the middle of the street.( we were in elementary school at the time) That kid hit the pavement face first, knocked himself out, lost a fight he was winning. I had to help him home after that ,and I just remember saying, "Ya I didn't see that coming either."
Okada's dropkick is one of the few breathtaking (not a Dear God did he kill him like 15% of the NJPW moves are) moves I've ever seen in my near 40 years of watching wrestling. I think he could even ruin the move like the Young Bucks have with the superkick by doing 5 times in a match, and it would still be amazing to watch. I just hope his knees don't go on him that he stops doing it. Pre-WWF Koko was a sight to behold, but he ended up on the JYD meal plan with both of them being the shell of what they had been pre-WWF. It was such a shame.
The Bucks over do all of their moves, they don't sell and their moves mean nothing. Even the Meltzer driver looks so fake. Kenny Omega kidnapped Nakamura's high knees and does them about 10 times a match now. It doesn't shock me that those guys are friends.
I remember WK9 when Jim Ross hyped up the Okada dropkick in the beginning of the match, it immediately caught my interest. Then when he busted it out towards the end JR sold it as if it were a legit finish to the match (and I believed it for a momemt).
@@ltothemagain and have made more money than almost anyone...and didn't have to change or kiss ass to make it...you must just go on what u hear and dont watch them..when they have "big" matches they aren't too many better than the bucks and Kenny...
Saw Rocky here in Houston at the Coliseum a number of times.Me and my folks always thought he could dropkick over the Astrodome,if not the Monument itself.
in spring of 1984 i bought a t-shirt at a WWF house show in Grand Rapids, MI...it stated..."Rocky Johnson: King Of The Dropkick". w/ a bust of a chiseled Rocky on it, & while executing a perfect dropkick in the background...awesome! wishin i kept it now!!!
Jim Brunzell had the best dropkick. It always hit with accuracy and looked like it had a lot of force, plus he could get way up there. Before Sting blew out his knee, his dropkick was great.
Jaques Teddy Ruxpin - Back then it was illegal to go over the top rope, they didn’t use tables and chairs I’m not talking about that though, I’m saying guys from the Attitude/Ruthless Aggression Era to now are better athletes Guys like Shelton Benjamin, Apollo Crews, Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, The Rock, Bobby Lashley, Booker T, Rey Mysterio, Baron Corbin, John Morrison etc
In regards to the move itself yes, but if we're talking about the sequence to the drop kick and the drop kock itself that would be AJ Styles' leapfrog, drop down drop kick sequence.
I always loved how Dynamite Kid threw a dropkick, especially off the top followed by the kip up. Also Art Barr's standing dropkick always looked really good
Yes. I remember a Superstars match he did in 1990. He slammed a jobber, and went to a corner. The guy got up, Earthquake ran and drop kicked him right in the face. The job guy flew back, rolled backward and came to his knees and face planted.
The Nature Boy Buddy Landel had an AMAZING standing drop kick. Saw him in SMW hit his opponent right in the mouth with a standing drop kick. Definitely poetry in motion.
To me The Road Warriors had amazing dropkicks for guys their size. Animal at 300 lbs. could dropkick like a man 100lbs lighter ,and Hawk...oh man, 275 lb. Hawk could jump straight up in the air from a standing position (no run up needed) and nail the guy in the head with both feet.
The killer Bees would sometimes have a six man tags where they teamed with Paul Orndorff. Orndorff would put a guy on his shoulders and Brunzell would dropkick him off without hitting Paul.
The best move in Maven's arsenal was his dropkick, I don't think I've seen a better one. Jim Brunzell and Tom Zenk's would be my close runner-ups, but I loved how Brian Pillman used his defensively. Made it different.
I never recall benoit doing MISSLIE dropkicks. Maybe a normal but great dropkick, but not of the top rope. Booker had a good one i think the best one was against Finley on nitro. Cant remember which year. Srry
He thinks Lance has no charisma and never drew a dime, therfore he thinks he's overrated as all hell. Also Brian commented on the physique of Jericho and Lance Storm bashed him for it.
I actually don't understand why. Brian Last seems to have a strong dislike for both of the Thrillseekers and he seems to be the only person I know who does so. It's actually uncommon for people to have bad things to say about Jericho and Storm. And agreed. Storm had one of my favourite dropkicks.
@@KangDo Lance Storm having no charisma was a common argument to the point that even WWE went out of their way to point it out with a storyline. I remember them changing his theme to hip hop and having him do a ridiculous dance down to the ring. I felt bad for him but at the same time I couldn't help but laugh because of the fact that he kept the same ice cold look on his face while doing it.
My favorite dropkick of all time was Brad Armstrong. Look at some of his Crockett era matches...his dropkick was flawless. Doug Furnas was definitely another one as mentioned. For some reason I always got a kick out of Ricky Morton's because for me seeing a guy land on his back from one was unusual. And Koko Ware too....that one they showed in the UWF's TV intro was vicious!
I agree with brad Armstrong and koko b.ware. koko's matches in uwf were some of his best. Unfortunately, I don't think too many people will remember brad Armstrong. Yea... Ricky Morton landing on his back was funny to watch.
Jim Brunzell had an insane dropkick. I saw him at an Indy show in the late 90s when Berinzell was in his late 40s smack a guy right in the mouth with a dropkick.
Yes! Thank you for mentioning Paul Roma; I was going to mention him myself. Roma was in unbelievable shape and had a 4 foot standing vertical jump during his prime in the WWF. Everyone should go back and watch the match he had with Big John Studd - Roma delivered an incredible dropkick where he put one foot on Studd's forehead while his other foot went over his head. Not an easy task.
I really like Randy Orton's dropkick, he's always so precise with his timing and he gets a ton of air. I haven't seen him do it in a long time though so I guess he's knocked it off. He should still do it in big matches though. The worst I've ever seen is Erik Watts. He's the anti Orton. No sense of timing or precision. It looks like he did it on accident. Like a cartoon character slipping on a banana peel
The first few minutes....the best radio/podcasting there is!! But going way back....how about Verne and/or Greg Gagne? I seem to remember they had great dropkicks. As per usual, Jim's great.
Eddie Guerrero's dropkick for me personally has to be the sweetest, effortless looking one I've ever seen. He had suck height, speed and accuracy with it and just looked amazing.
BrokenSaintRW Yup, his weren't even waist high, they were thigh high. Goof thing his daddy was the booker, otherwise he would have never stepped in a wrestling ring.
Erik Watts immediately comes to mind when I think about horrible dropkicks. Booker's son or not, I'm amazed Dr. Death didn't destroy him after that terrible dropkick he threw (SuperBrawl 92 or 93, I think?).
I totally bought Jimmy Golden's dropkick as a finisher, even in the early 90's. A tall rangy guy with hops nailing someone with both feet... it looked like he was gonna launch them out of the ring.
I had just typed a post about Koko taking a guy's head off on a second rope dropkick on a UWF show and then Brian mentioned it. It is on TH-cam. Look for it.
Jim Ross once said that one of Brian's idols was "Flying" Fred Curry- a great drop-kicker in his own right, in his era. I'd say that's why he worked hard to perfect it.
I beg anybody reading this to find the WWF Superstars match he had with Savage from 1990. The single greatest drop kick in the history of the business.
Koexistence13 Wow that name never came to my mind but he was good to look at...Another name that comes to mind is Chris Champion from New Breed w/ Sean Royal and who was also Yoshi Kwan iin WCW. I was also thinking Kevin and Mike Von Erich.
I've always loved Minoru Suzuki's running dropkick where he gets the opponent right as they're coming off the rope by running at them and putting one foot forward into their face and the other into their chest. Looks ridiculously devastating.

I tried to Zig Zag (Dolph Ziggler's Finisher) in 8th Grade it was ok tho
He should’ve stuck with the DDT!
Could’ve been worse: He could’ve tried to do a Canadian Destroyer! 🤕
Among current active wrestlers, Okada has the best dropkick IMHO.

Rocky Johnson must be remembered on this topic of conversation.
Saw Rocky here in Houston at the Coliseum a number of times.Me and my folks always thought he could dropkick over the Astrodome,if not the Monument itself.
Lance Storm has an awesome Dropkick.
Missile dropkicks too real smooth
Roderick Strong has very underrated dropkicks. Sometimes he almost jumps over the person he's kicking!

Hennig, Okada, AJ, Hardcore Holly to name a few
Brad Armstrong’s drop kick was sheer perfection.
The Rock & Roll Express had a big finishing move: the double drop kick, where both Ricky and Robert would drop kick the heel at the same time.
Hawk from the Road Warriors and Sting had some of the best drop kicks i have seen
the best dropkick I've ever seen was dave england kicking bam margera in jackass 2, that thing was poetry in motion
Jim Brunzell had the best dropkick. It always hit with accuracy and looked like it had a lot of force, plus he could get way up there. Before Sting blew out his knee, his dropkick was great.
Tommy Rodgers of The Fantastics had a beautiful dropkick.
Randy Orton has great drop kicks

Yes. I remember a Superstars match he did in 1990. He slammed a jobber, and went to a corner. The guy got up, Earthquake ran and drop kicked him right in the face. The job guy flew back, rolled backward and came to his knees and face planted.
Kazuchika Okada has the best dropkick in the business at the moment. It’s a thing of beauty.
Kane. Big man with a lot of agility had some great looking dropkicks. I especially liked his missile dropkick.
I'm crying over here hearing Brian trying to read the question would be funny enough, but Jim's cackling laugh is killing me. I love it.
Okada, Brunzell and Bob Holly. The three best.
Brad Armstrong and Doug Furnas comes to mind.
Curt Henning had THE BEST dropkick I've seen. Randy Orton had the highest dropkick.
One of my favorite drop kicks is Bryan Clarke/Adam Bomb/Wrath. He does a standing drop kick that often has beautiful form.
The Nature Boy Buddy Landel had an AMAZING standing drop kick. Saw him in SMW hit his opponent right in the mouth with a standing drop kick. Definitely poetry in motion.
Christ that story about Murdoch bumping for the cup of ice about killed me.
Tommy Rogers, Brad Armstrong, Kerry Von Erich
Jumpin' Jim Brunzell had the best dropkick in the 80's. By the time he to got to the early 90's it was a shadow of his dropkick from the mid 80's.
Curt Henning in full flight was a sight to se
The dropkick Rick Rude put on Warrior from the top rope at Wrestlemania 5 was pretty nuts.
one of the most impressive dropkick that i remember was mark jindrak the height was just incredible.

Absolutely, without a doubt both of them could throw mean dropkicks ! Doc Death Steve Williams and Bruiser Brody both had great dropkicks also. JB
The killer Bees would sometimes have a six man tags where they teamed with Paul Orndorff. Orndorff would put a guy on his shoulders and Brunzell would dropkick him off without hitting Paul.

Jeff Jarrett despite all his faults, had a wicked drop kick.
I think he has the best working punch, except for maybe Jerry Lawler
