This is outstanding. :) I'm so thankful you were able to reverse engineer this really odd piano suite from Sesame Street. Pretty sophisticated for a children's TV show, no? Do you know of any other composers that sound like this? Does this fall into a particular piano style? Reminds me of a saloon for some reason.
I would without a doubt say the emotional aspects of compositions such as this as well as different aspects of the Mr. Rogers Neighborhood "background" music influenced my musical tastes.. McCoy Tyner comes to mind.. Jimi Hendrix being the primary influence on me as a guitar player, Keith Emerson as an influence on synthesizers as a melodic artform. Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Etc... But to use an old "Tack" piano over an otherwise silent film of the Mad Painter, to show mood and expression.. pure genius.
It's all too easy to browse past the Mad Painter bits with an "Oh yeah I remember that" without realizing just how wonderful the score is and appreciating the love your father put into it. I've fallen asleep listening to this score for three nights in a row now. 🙂 Do you know if the original recordings still exist?
It's amazing how hearing this music again can conjure up memories, say like at the 2:40 mark, I can see the Mad Painter at the doctor's office painting that infamous "11", and Mac the Janitor coming by to clean the window! You did an amazing job!
This is awesome! I play The Mad Painter for my kids all the time, because they need to see the classic Sesame Street clips. You piano playing had both of my girls come running as they both thought the clip was on again.
Wow! Amazing to meet you. Your dad's music has stuck with me for over 40 years, and is unlike anything else I've heard. Is he still alive, may I ask? I would love to know what musicians inspired him. Do you play music as well?
@@puppetsnob Sorry I am answering only now. I am really glad you like my Dad's music. He died in 2017. He was as good natured a person as I've ever met, just a wonderful father, and, I think, a pretty good composer, too. Quiet and modest, he never spoke much about his inspirations, but I do know he always kept a very open mind regarding music, loving the classical repertoire and the Beatles, Baroque, Benjamin Britten, and the Lovin' Spoonful, with no snobbery whatsoever. By the way, on the number painter you also hear him playing the piano, which is nice. I myself was a fair violin player in my time, but nothing special, unfortunately.
@@Monomakh Is there any possible way I could get in touch with you? My dad is a huge fan of his compositions in these skits, and it would be appreciated more than you know. Please let me know if there’s a way I reach out to you.
My Dad wrote and performed this, and when I asked him about the sheet music, he was embarrassed to say he kind of improvised the whole thing! He was working from time sheets.

Thank you my friend. It's nice to see this music survive and be appreciated. Truly delightful composition by Robert Dennis.
My father wrote and performed this. I am so glad you were touched by it.
Never fails to give me a smile.

Thanks for doing this. I think I'll just make this my theme song when I'm walking around, sans paint and brush.
Wow! Perfect. Every element explored. Not an easy task. THANKS!!
Very Nostalgic, Well done, I always wondered why he never painted a 1 or 12?
Going to paint an 11.
That's my father's (Robert Dennis) music. Thank you!!
Very pleased to meet you. Thank you and your father's legacy for the music. It was amazing to hear at that young age.

Wow, awesome job. If I could find the sheet music for this, I'd love to hear friends who play the piano do this.
