  • Wash dishes fast by using the pyramid method. Keep your dishes soaked and stack them within each other like a pyramid in both wash and rinse steps. This saves time to rinse a bowl and water as well! .

    For those concerned with the water usage of running the water. I measured it and it actually used less than filling up the sink. The test in this video here: th-cam.com/video/XyHxpXxIxjA/w-d-xo.html

      I give you this idea: get a dish rack that you can fit in one side of the sink. Scrub the dishes and put them on the rack. Rinse them.
      You may need to pick few items like glasses and cups to rinse them properly. This is really fast and water saving... also get a brush, it is very practical to clean drainers and scrub dirty pans and pots.

      if you have water to spend, don"t use the dish rack, but a perforated container can be used to organize the dishes and shower them to save water, leaving them to air dry.

      I'm more concerned about your lack of scrubbing. You can't just wipe a soapy sponge over part of a dish and expect to get off bacteria. Just like washing your hands, you need to scrub all surfaces, not just smear a bit of soap around.

      As a parent, I agree. I say that because I know many parents who have to work more than one job just to get by and literally don't have the time or energy to teach their kids things like this. And, even if parents do have time, their kids think the parents don't know anything and won't listen to them (sigh). Thank goodness for TH-cam and Rumble for having videos like these for kids who need to learn to be adults. 🙂 And, for adults to become better adults. 😉

    My apartment doesn't have a dishwasher so here's what I do: I like using super hot water to get dishes clean, but you got to wear gloves, so you don't boil your hands. Super hot water makes getting them cleaner, faster super easy. Also, dish sponges get stinky and nasty if you leave them by the sink! After I do dishes, I rinse out the sponge and pop it in the microwave for one minute to kill stinky bacteria. Afterward, I leave the sponge in a spot where it can dry out completely and stay clean. Thanks for your tips! I am writing an article, and I will include a link to this video. Ciao!

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  8 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      Oh yeah, I like to microwave the sponge myself as well. Thanks for linking when you do! =D I also like the extra cleanliness of hot water as I've done that myself. Something to consider about using very hot water is that it may make your gas/electric bill a little bigger.

    I learned to wash dishes this way (as shown in your video) in Japan many years ago. When my American relatives saw me washing that way, they all told me to stop wasting so much water! But I hate reaching into a sink full of dirty water, so I think I'm going to give your way another try. Thanks for posting!
    Another thing that helps me live without a dishwasher is minimizing the quantity of dishes in use in my home. One plate, one bowl, one cup per person, etc.

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I'd say give the running water (on low) a try and time yourself. Then run the water at the same rate for the same time to see how much you fill the sink. You may find that at a minimal rate, and if you wash at a brisk pace, the water used is about the same.
      Yeah, minimized dishes is a good one. All for those one pot meals. One pot to cook, and eat in the pot too, lol.

      I hate reaching into dirty dishwater, too. So gross! And potentially dangerous if there are sharp knives at the bottom or broken glass if a dish breaks in the water. I had that happen when I was a kid and was lucky to walk away from that accident without stitches!

    This is exactly how I've always done dishes and I've been persecuted for it my whole life. I thought I was some freak, somehow inferior to others in dishwashing because I do it like this and people are like "wtf are you doing, have you never washed dishes before? Why aren't you filling the sink with water? Why are you using soap, just fill the sink with soapy water. You're wasting water by not filling the sink. What's wrong with you? That's not efficient." 😭 So many people have said similar things to me about it, making me feel self conscious about washing dishes in front of people. I finally couldn't stand it anymore and came on TH-cam to humbly search "how to wash dishes" to try and learn the proper way and here's this video showing the same beautiful method I've always loved and wished I could perform without fear of judgment 😭 Oh gosh. This was really relaxing to watch. Also pyramid method is easier because it soaks dried up food during the soap stage, and when you dry them pyramid method too it dried faster. Perfect if you have a small kitchen & don't want a drying rack to take up counter space too.

    This technique has honestly increased my dish-washing time by a bit. How much, I can't say... but let's just say that doing dishes doesn't make me wanna jump off a bridge anymore. I'm not able to wash a stack like yours in 15 minutes... yet... but I'm getting there. Since my second sink is clogged (too much food in the drains), this isn't as effective.. but it still does the job. Thanks!

      Hmmm, sounds like you are using this method but improving as you practice. I think any new method takes a little getting used to. And who knows, maybe after you practice this is still slower. In that case, all you can say is you gave it a good trial period and it didn't work out. Good luck!

    • @poutinedavid8937
      @poutinedavid8937 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no, this method definitely works. At the beginning it was very clumsy because it was new. Like you said though, any new method does take some time to get used to. How'd you come up with this method?

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I came up with this sort of organically from washing dishes by hand. You want to wash them so you wet and soap them. But seeing all the water that could be reused when you wash a bowl, putting it in a pyramid just came naturally. Several others have mentioned they wash similar to this method as well.

    I run a sink full of soapy hot water first and let them soak for about 15 minutes. What kind of soap is used is crucial to cutting down wash time. I use two kinds - Dawn and my favorite, Palmolive Oxy (I never thought I would find one better than Dawn, but I did). I run a second sink filled with cold water. As I wash, I give the dish an extra dip at the end to get off the suds, then toss it in the second sink. When the second sink is full with all dishes submerged, I pick them out with a tiny swirl and put them in the drainer. Many years ago when I suggested to my mother to rinse in the second sink instead of running water, she said she didn't like that because the rinse water gets soapy. Well, if it does, run another sink of clear. But I don't have this problem, and if some little bit of residue is left on my dishes, it won't kill me. It cuts down on my time in the kitchen a whole lot. Soaking the dishes first is key to fast and clean dish washing. Thanks for the video. Always interesting!

    Heres how I wash dishes. I clear out one whole side of the sink, then i put everything either on the other sink side or the counter. I put a stopper in the drain on the empty sink side. After that i fill it up with water and soap at the same time and it makes lots of soap bubbles. Then I turn off the water and use the sink full of soapy water to wash. I use a towel on the counter to let the dishes dry. I liked your video bro. You make it look so easy lel.

      I microwave the dishcloths and sponges, and then find I have counter surfaces which I have forgotten to do and feel stupid and stress over whether I should microwave them again.
      I have shared this private shame so that other people may realize that each of us has our own SPECIAL GIFTS.
      From the time I was a little girl, people would come to my house for me to help them with math. Some teachers would think they were stupid and I would know they were smart, but they learned differently.

    • @phoenixmoon5580
      @phoenixmoon5580 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ditto with the depression (but sadly not exiting mine yet!). I tend to refer to my dishes that need to be washed as 'Mount Dishes'. They end up as a big pile where I put them when dirty, and because I tend to use the draining board it turns into a pile there too. Although, sometimes (like this time) I know I likely will need to wash dishes, then leave them to dry on the draining board for a day or two, put them away, and then do the next batch. Often times I have two 'Mount Dishes' this time is likely a three or four 'Mount Dishes'. However, when they are draining and/or put away I can announce that 'I've climbed Mount Dishes' and/or 'I conquered Mount Dishes'. I get the 'yey, I did it' feeling for a split second (if Depression is generous!), then I have a compulsion to turn round and see the next Mount Dishes, or something I couldn't clean.

      Amount running over time, it looked like for the wash it might have filled a third of the sink which is less than if he fully filled the sink to wash them. It'd depend on your number of dishes and speed as to if it saves water.

    I'm 58 and a grandma and I had a monster for a mother. Her idea of having an only child was because she needed a servant. No joke. Except she never really taught me how to do the stuff she wanted done, she just said do it, or get beat. This video just reminded me of all the crap I had to go through to learn how to do the simplest things.
    These last 18 months of this pandemic have come to show my resilience and fortitude. Also, that love does conquer all. I was angry with my mother but I never hated her. I love my children and also like them. We really get along well, and in time of need we pull together and lean on each other. Including when it comes to washing dishes.
    Let me give you guys watching this video a tip: grab a basin from The Dollar Tree, fill it with water every night before you go to bed, add 2 heaping tbsp if baking soda (NOT baking powder!!), and a squirt of whatever dish washing liquid you use. Start putting the dirty dishes in there AFTER scraping them if whatever food is on them. When the basin is full, scrub the dishes, rinse them and put them to dry. Do NOT throw out the basin water!! Keep using it until the dinner dishes, just add another squirt of dish washing liquid. Once the pots and pans are ready to be washed, take some of the basin water and pour it into the ones that have food stuck to the bottom. Maybe add some baking soda if the food is really stuck, and place it on the stove on low for about 5 mins, then turn it off. Keep washing the dishes and leave that pot for last. A bit of salt and the baking soda will probably be enough. When you're done, throw out the basin water, wash the basin, and start again. No matter how dirty the water gets, or if there aren't any suds, that basin water will have a high enough Ph (alkalinity) and surfactants from the baking soda and dish detergent that you don't need to worry about replacing the water all day, unless you have to do Thanksgiving and Christmas combined. Then do 2 basins and call me.

    We use our kitchen a lot, so lots of dishes go through. I’m very glad to use a dishwasher. Our kitchen workflow is optimized for the dishwasher. For example:
    1. We leave the dishwasher open when doing things in the kitchen so dishes just go directly in it as they’re used.
    2. Because of #1, the dishwasher can be run as soon there are enough dirty dishes to fill it. There are never more than a few pieces queued in the sink (but usually nothing).
    3. Our kitchen is small and optimally organized so it only takes a minute to unload and put dishes back in their place. We often unload while prepping the next meal, so several clean dishes just get used right out of the dishwasher instead of being put away.
    4. We have enough of each dish to wait for them to go through the dishwasher. But that still doesn’t require a lot of dishes since we don’t let dirty dishes pile up.
    5. We choose dishes that are dishwasher safe over ones that are not.
    The dishwasher gets run about once per day. We hand wash very few items. The dishwasher uses no more than 4 gallons of water.
    Since generating dirty dishes does not add much to my to do list, I can time-optimize other tasks, such as washing larger batches of vegetables at a time (saving them in containers for later-don’t worry about making more containers dirty).

    I am from Spain and I use the exact method!! Except half-way through scrubbing the dishes I close the water because I think the dirty dishes have been soaked enough, and anyway if I see a dish needs some more water I open the water again... I just don´t like running water, I think it´s wasteful hahaha
    I'm currently living in the UK and they usually use a plastic bin full of hot water and rinse everything in the same water. It´s definitely more water efficient but the dishes get soapy and greasy sometimes and I am not sure if it´s hygienic.

    Here's my family's modification to this method:
    Instead of washing all of the dishes and putting it on the other side, continually begin rinsing the soaped dishes in the unsoaped dishes area. This way, you get faster flowing water in that area that can help, at least, move some of the particulates that are stuck on a little harder. The soaped + rinsed dishes can then just go on the side counter (which must be clean already), and then they can be placed into the dishwasher whenever for drying.

    Your dishwashing video is the most entertaining and innovative one I've found so far. I wash dishes by hand 2-3x a day and I sometimes watch videos to keep me going. I'm going to go wash my dishes now, lol.

      Stack in sink. Wash and soap each item and stack outside of sink with a large plate on the bottom. Transfer all soapy dishes in the sink. Wash and put each piece outside of sink. Wash sink. Transfer all dishes back in sink upside down to drain.

      It’s a helpful video to some, but I definitely agree with both of you.

    I know this is an older video but I am a new subscriber. I need to get motivated to wash my dishes. I don't have a place like yours with counters or anything so I have to put my dishes inside a strainer.
