This game seems made for those that don't mind falling over and over and over again, mixed with a healthy amount of repetition, upon initial impression (3 hours of play). Trying desperately to enjoy this game because of how much I love the games it has been compared with (Zelda, Hollow Knight, Dark Souls, Super Mario 64, Prince of Persia, etc...), but so far only seem to be superfluous comparisons. While taking inspiration from all the above, I feel this game closest resembles Celeste, requiring tight precision platforming to proceed anywhere, but not possessed of the pixel perfect feel of movement that makes Celeste feel so smooth and responsive. This feels more... loose and jerky, I think. Definitely gives the game it's own distinct feel, but I think many hours of practice will be needed for most to apply the fine micro adjustments needed for successful platforming and may possibly get salty long before they actually reach that level. Much persistence needed, if not a skilled twitch type gamer already, I think. Still worth it tho for the price, I believe, since although rough and not as polished by far as the lofty inspirations it draws from, is definitely filled with it's own unique potential. Just damn hard jumps, even for those well versed the genre. My final suggestion: If you can manage to persist, I still think this game cant be missed.
For those that dislike banging their heads against a rock over and over and over AND OVER, however; I would recommend that you pass on this one. Similar to the recently released Cyber Shadow, there are just way too many cheap, one-shot fails (or falls in this case!) in this game, IMO. Must note tho, that main game is much less frustrating than optional Void Challenges presented throughout. Since I am OCD, I feel compelled to finish these when finding, adding immensely to my frustration. I should note that it is possible to skip these areas entirely if the player wants, at the loss of gaining "heart containers" by completing. So technically possible to limit frustration by skipping some areas.
That's a good assessment, I loved Celeste as well and that is probably the best comparison but you have to realize that polishing platforming for a 2d game is a bit more simple then when you add in that extra axis. Blue Flame is not a triple A game, certainly doesn't have the polish but coming in 2 years late on it I got it for $6 on switch and far and away a surprising bang for the buck!
The game is good, but man I had some issues with bugs from time to time. A big no for me was when I was in the Forest Shrine, and I was climbing a ladder up, next thing you know water spawned and I died. Not the end of the world, but definitely needs some polishing.
I'm watching this one. Looks to be fun, but I'm waiting for more reviews as I've got the impression the fights can feel exhaustive and the mix of fighting and platforming is sometimes unbalanced. I'm also getting tired people comparing this game with BotW. If anything, the dungeons resemble The Wind Waker dungeons a lot more than anything in Breath of the Wild.
Honestly I think it gives of some zelda vibes with the key and locked doors, Hollow Knight with collectable charms and yes I would say a bit of botw cause if you look closely on the walls of dungeons there is this malice style goo eg. 1:31 sticking to the walls similar to in botw and even the sequel. I also do see this having a wind waker style as more of a dark toon link in terms of the model design however similarities to botw do exist and I'm not gonna say they dont when you can clearly see a few.
@@toonzelda3353 Yeah, I would say that this game has some things taken from BOTW, but other than that, I just bought this game and am really liking it so far! It’s not a ripoff, it’s a game inspired by Legend of Zelda. Also getting some Hollow Knight vibes.
@@skippyskyro7450 I agree. This game is amazing. I'm playing it rn but am really stuck 😅😅. I hope some more walkthrough guides come out for this game so I can progress a bit more. I'm in this green grass area.
i just bought it on a whim and so far im enjoying it. its as if ocarina of time and hollow knight had a baby, but it doesnt feel like a copy. it feels original and i think its gonna be a hit. id definitely keep an eye on it. oh and no i cant draw a single comparison to botw i have no clue where anyone would get that.
Great review, thanks for informing my purchase.
Thanks for watching!
The wall running and chibi main character give me I-Ninja vibes :)
I- ninja was fun
It really was

Same thing for me
"A Hat in Time" meets "Hollow Knight".
Love the main characters design, reminds me of hollow knight.
3D hollow knight ^^
platforming is amazing, i have so much fun with the trials
however the combat, enemy design and lack of navigation is garbage
BOTW changed Action Adventure games forever and I like ut
Huh
