It was Mr Gerrard that was suffering from hubris. Poor performances week in, week out. The Man City result gave him more time to play his rotten narrow 4-3-3 system that, obvious to everyone apart from himself, wasn’t working with the players we’ve got. He kept picking players who were woefully out of form. Had zero game management or made changes when things weren’t working, no enthusiasm on the touch line. 1 point from 9 against the promoted teams and 7 goals in 11 games. Patience with that form leads to relegation - something Aston Villa cannot afford.

I know he had to try the Villa job they are after all a premier league club with a history even if it was a long while back. He should have carried on for a few more years building at Rangers see where that led him. I know he will bounce back it is in his DNA. Like Lampard I think they will both prove to be successful but these things take time. Arteta learned well from Pep during his time at city, maybe Stevie G could like wise support another current manager to further his managerial aspirations. Good luck where ever he lands.

Admittedly he wasn't the manager in the final, but it was his team and he built it on shoe string budget. Rangers are on a downward slope since he left and Celtic are again the dominant team in Scotland. The best thing Rangers can do is make Stevie G their manager again.
