After watching this movie on prime, I really fell in love with the father character.. such a caring person. Daughter father relationship is always subtle and special.

Let me also share something.. in the 1st part of the movie they were shown very adorable couple... And when the incident occured and she moved back to her parents home ,,and the man came to take her back... I just wished that man to cry and apologize,, feel sorry for whatever he did,,,it was so simple to win her back ,,,there was no single guilt in his eyes ,and he pretended that tapse is just extending the matter.. that moment I felt whatever she was doing was totally correct,,
Just crying and apologize mistakes might not be correct.. this might go on repetitive. violence is not an option in any possible way not for men or women!!
Its true that a heartfelt sorry could resolve it. But , This way, you are making him addicted for repeating this offence in future also and again saying just SORRY.... So, whatever Tapsee did is 100% right
A scene that I particularly loved in this movie was when Kumud Mishra Ji yelled his son for misbehaving with his fiance and made him apologize for his deed and even Ratna Pathak Shah Ji (even with her superstition and beliefs against divorce) told her son that if you want to say something then instead of me talk to her. Many people may not realize but that scene was so subtle and powerful. Brilliant. 💝
This movie is a gem. There are a few detailed things which i loved about this: -When Amrita learns to make parathas without burning her hand -She also learns how to drive. -How her father shouts at his son for misbehaving with his fiancé and so does the mother. She tells him to go stop her first. -When Amrita's brother learns and apologised to his fiancé that she deserved better and she promises to stay with him forever. -The locations and screenplay of this film are so beautiful. -The cast of this is splendid. One thing i didn't understand is the orange candy thing? what was that
Orange candy is cheap and represents the likes of her early days, which doesn't exist in her rich husband's life. I feel that's to imply she doesn't want all the 'privillages'
Orange candy is a thread that connects different lives or people from different classes and standards who face similar situations just like no matter how rich or poor, old or young we are, everyone loves icecream, similarly status might be different but problems are same
The morning after the party, the husband tells his wife why he committed the act and how he feels about his work n colleagues. Those words summed up how/what SHE felt about him n their relationship. Well written piece.
To people who didn't understand the point : The point was not just a slap , The movie showed how a slap can mean a million things and for tapsee's character the slap made her realize all the void in her life and how she actually was not happy in her life
I think the scene after they do the pooja, that was the crux of the movie for me. It was not the slap that shook her, it was the facade of normalcy that she was supposed to put up what really hurt her. "Koi nahi aaya mere paas" and "kisi ne Vikram ko kuch nahi kaha" was her primary grouse. So much has been written about the metaphors in the movie but that one scene was magic for me.
That was the most touching scene in the movie for me . Nobody tells a man that he is wrong and neither do men have the habit of accepting their mistakes because of the way they are groomed. Similarly women are expected to forgive and forget and move on
One scene which was shown so casually but holds a deep meaning, when the male lead saw Dia Mirza driving a new luxury car instead of praising he commented 'what kind of job she does'. Somewhere deep down all men think like that, for them the only way women gets rich is through men.
Wrong choice of words - not all men. By the way, movie has many layers of message for every aspect of suppression physically, mentally and most important emotionally. Masterpiece!
@@harshitpandey2923 - What I wrote was a general statement and is very common, though it's gradually changing. But yeah, what you said about the movie having many layers - I have the same opinion there.
@@harshitpandey2923 I respect your opinion but mine are different. 'Not all men' is also a very common phrase but is it so(in reality), I don't think it is.
The male lead did an extremely good job in this movie along with everyone else. But that man's performance really touched me. Pavail Gulati, I hope you reach great heights because you are really talented.
This movie will always have a separate corner in my heart ❤️ just for the last part where Vikram is saying " isbaar main kamaunga tujhe, bas mil lena kabhi kabhi"... When someone leaves us then we understand their value! The realisation, feeling of emptiness, that reality check was so so pure and relatable..🍂
But that's just in film. In real life nobody realise the value of someone. Even if they realised they will never say that "kamaunga tujhe ..." the world is so cruel. Nobody understands your feelings. 😢

At times, there comes a movie which is so perfect, that you forget whether it made 100 crores or not...rather it remains with you even after the curtains fall...Thappad is one such gem of a movie...
Story of 7 women having different experiences in their life Tapsee who decides to fight for herself Her mother who knows that wrong is done but thinks that compromise are needed to make marriage work Her mother in law who is living separately from her husband, loves her daughter in law, knows that she is right but not has guts to tell her son to apologize The maid from lower socioeconomic background who thinks abuse is normal but after seeing her employer taking step for herself, she also stands up against her abusive husband The lawyer who is stuck in her relationship decides to liberate herself not for other man but for herself Diya mirza who is in loving memory of her dead husband still has faith in men and is hopeful Dia's daughter who was in teenage romance and wanted to get her mom married again loses faith in men
No one talking about Raghav Chaitanya for giving such a voice. Been following him since 3 years on TH-cam didn't knew he got a break in Bollywood happy for him❤️
the sad part is even after such a clear portrayal of the story and why tapsee's character took the steps she had to take most people couldn't understand the message in it and still feels its about thappad but can't even understand how it was a hit on her dignity and not just a slap..now i get it how patriarchy has deeply embedded in people's thoughts
Isn't your mindset patriarchal in the sense you think it's a big deal because the Man is seen as bigger metaphorically speaking. If it was reverse it would simply just be a SLAP.
Song is representing everything going on in a toxic relationship which a women ignores thinking that it is love , literally shows we are pretending to be happy but not actually are
@@Lazymath007_ if intentionally she is slapping then man should also take stand for himself , obviously that's his right simple equality is important for each one
The scene at the end when Vikram apologises, says “is baar kamaunga mai tujhe”. They leave in separate cars and go different way, THAT, THAT IS UNMATCHED CINEMATOGRAPHY right there, that shot resonates with me in a way even I can’t describe.❤️
Yes and he watches as she gets in and drives the car out....and while driving she cries..but not a drop fell when he was apologising..so late...very understated...very powerful..that shows the strength of the character portrayed
I came here to see if anybody was talking about the Vikram's character and how beautifully Pavail Gulati acted who would say this is his 1st movie as a lead. 👏👏
Couple of years ago, I stumbled upon Mashup of romantic songs by Raghav Chaitanya. And then I was just hooked to his mashups! I wrote a comment on one of his video that “may a music director stumble on your mashups and you get a chance of your life!” After this movie was released, I got notifications of messages on that comment, but I didn’t bother to check them. Few months later I checked and couple of comments mentioned that he got his chance in this movie! I listened to this song and it was equally wonderful and touching!! I ended up watching this movie and since I married couple of years ago, it was kinda of introspection for me. Right movie made at a right time 😊😊

Just done watching this amazing film. The movie leaves us with a message that if we hurt someone unintentionally don't hold back . Just go and genuinely apologize. And we can't take ppl for granted, because family and loved ones aren't running in our race of reaching to the TOP
" Khus Rehna Chahti Hoon, Jab Kahu ki khus hoon, Jhoot Na Lage " That dialogue by Tapsee in the movie won my Heart🔥❤ The dialogue has a clear massage for all of us...💙
Just saw the movie a couple of days back..Heard from many people that it is not a movie worth watching. But this is one of the underrated movies of the year so far for me..Now I get why many people didn't like it. The so called progressive men has roots of patriarchy embedded deep inside..The movie is just not about the slap but her husband's reaction after that where he takes for granted the whole episode and never even bothers to apologise for the incident until the very end when all is lost. Great movie and brilliant potrayal from all the characters
One thing we have to keep in mind that, this is not just a story of a husband and wife. It's about all the family members. Mom and kids too. How many of us have appreciated our moms to the effort she puts for everybody. How many of us have yelled at mom for cooking something we don't like etc. What if she falls sick, will we be able to manage home? Yeah , we would, but nothing like how she manages. So we should appreciate these woman a little more. They won't expect appreciation, but it will surely make their life little more happy.
The thing I believe after watching this movie is that Tapsee is so true to her relationship. She knew that from inside she can never forget the incident. She can never love him the way she used to do it earlier and so instead of making herself and others feel that she is not hurted it's better everyone understand that it is not OK
@@Lazymath007_ excuse me what do you mean by all the time? Stop normalizing any form of violence in the first place there's no gender for standing up for yourself

Amu's eyes were always searching . Whenever she went to her mother in law's room, many times with Vikram. But she never got what she was looking for. He didn't apologize. They did not want to see her acknowledging her own pain, and point out yes Vikram was wrong. When she came to him saying she was expecting even at that moment Vikram moved to his materialistic ambitions. The pain in her eyes just,Tapsee did so well. What a beautiful movie.
the dialogue of vikram at the end "wo Hampstead my jo blue walay darwaze sy roz ander jata tha, wo ghr to tha hi nahi amu. Ghr toh tujh sy tha" had my heart
The plot I liked most in the movie was Tapsee's mother reveiling about her sacrifices. Her father (character)is shown as a caring and loving husband from the very beginning and at last it shows he is also in the usual group(unknowingly and unwillingly). That was a really touching scene .It simply shows how things are messed up.
she had her parents for support, had a home to return to, had someone with whom she could talk.. there are many who have no one else to turn to, its very difficult
I think the "thappad" was more a metaphor throughout the movie. It actually portrayed this sense of entitlement, the patriarchy. The hota hai, chalta hai attitude, move on. The indifference and the lack of empathy shown by her mother-in-law right after the incident, by himself - justifying his actions as an outcome of anger and disappointment. Her brother being ditto. I don't know if anybody else noticed, but the husband never apologized or showed remorse for that incident ever throughout the runtime. And that was the real "thappad".
What a lyrics.. fall in love with it.. movie wow.. that line of argument in court.. i liked it.. self respect/esteem is most important thing and no-one should harm it.. not even your life partner.. Taapsee Pannu is just brilliant in her role.
@@dhwanithaker9976 it took me 3 months but I have accepted that.. Watching her see with someone else used to hurt at first but now I'm okay with it... Thanks for the concern though

I think almost 90% of the people who have watched this movie must haven't noticed the main thing which is tried to show through it. Everywhere A wife (not only woman) is disrespected in this movie(world) just because no one has a blood relation to her. She has sacrificed her every wish, desire and life only for the sake of another person (husband) and his family only to spend a so called happy life in the eyes of the world. Wives are really underestimated in this world. Only a slap wasn't the main point in this movie. The main point was the disrespect of every wife in different ways. 😞 And of course the movie was fantastic. Everything was perfect. 👍🏻
When she initially talks about blue door in London and in the end says, but mera favourite color to yellow tha....it shows how much it takes to become a perfect housewife...she sacrified a lot...
He never hit me. Never. He used to leave me for days whenever I did a mistake. He used to punish me mentally. Cause he knew he is my world. I was humiliated and ashamed by his people. Shayad woh bhi thappad tha. Scar in my soul and mind. I changed. I lost myself. ❤
Yup sweetheart, no doubts it's a Thappad. Thappad, doesn't mean raising hands, every action done, verbally, physically or in any other ways. ❤ I'm proud of you dear.❤ Love you..❤

@@pallavichattopadhyay5591 It's amusing how you (and many would too) fail to see the irony of your own statement. This movie is a epic, it's the best movie of bollywood. Love is as vital as the respect in relationship. Eventually love may end but what remain is respect. She deserved to be respected and so as he. It should be from both sides. There is nothing in the world that women can't do. Its just that they prefer to sacrifice few things for their families happiness and it's not wrong if it's chosen by her but what she deserves is respect for that decision. She can drive car, she can make parathas and she can earn money with her hard work and she can buy new car also and the car can be earned by making money with her hard work. One thing i didn't understand is the orange candy thing? what was that
Orange candy is cheap and represents the likes of her early days, which doesn't exist in her rich husband's life. I feel that's to imply she doesn't want all the 'privillages'
Orange candy is a thread that connects different lives or people from different classes and standards who face similar situations just like no matter how rich or poor, old or young we are, everyone loves icecream, similarly status might be different but problems are same
Maybe the orange 🧡 candy 🍬🍭 is representing the Innocence of child, that w'all have no matter How elder We get.

"Ek dhaage mein hain uljhe yoon

I think the scene after they do the pooja, that was the crux of the movie for me. It was not the slap that shook her, it was the facade of normalcy that she was supposed to put up what really hurt her. "Koi nahi aaya mere paas" and "kisi ne Vikram ko kuch nahi kaha" was her primary grouse. So much has been written about the metaphors in the movie but that one scene was magic for me.
Exactly my thoughts 👍
I said the same thing after this dialogue "koi nhi Aya mere pass"
" Vikram ko kisi ne kuch nhi kaha"
That really hitt me hard
That was the most touching scene in the movie for me . Nobody tells a man that he is wrong and neither do men have the habit of accepting their mistakes because of the way they are groomed. Similarly women are expected to forgive and forget and move on

One scene which was shown so casually but holds a deep meaning, when the male lead saw Dia Mirza driving a new luxury car instead of praising he commented 'what kind of job she does'. Somewhere deep down all men think like that, for them the only way women gets rich is through men.

It's not necessary that if she buys a new car then she is doing something wrong.. I believe you remember that scene in movie..
Loved the movie so much❣️
When Raghav Chaitanya says jaane do mat kaho kitne they, everyone cried. Literally everyone
Parents are so cooperating in this movie but in reality parents and everyone force you to go back to ur husband it was just a slap 😊
Rightly said
Yeah
It's really important to go back
u can't leave the person to whom u r married 🧢❣️ so think before leaving that place
I guess man won’t understand what she felt in this movie
women should think about her dignity not about society KUCH TOH LOG KAHENGE.......LOGON KA KAAM HAI KEHNA
Congratulations to Raghav Chiatanya for winning the Filmfare best playback singer award for this song !! His debut song in Bollywood !!
Its a really well written song. Pay attention the lyrics and link it to the scenes... True bliss!
I loved the part that when he said sorry and still she divorced him..Not like typical bollywood..Where women are shown as shama ki devi..
Lol true.. We can solve matters
If he said sry means he meant by it... So maf karne se koi chota nahi ho jata.. hum bhi insan hai galtiya ho jati hai
Lol, its upto u if u wanna save this marriage or do another!!!
@@atulmehar5176 Vo incident usne maaf kr to diya tha akhiri me. Climax me she forgives him. Aur baat yahan us incident ki thi hi nhi. She realised that she was not happy in that relationship, that family n her dependent existence. Divorce isliye liya usne.. That slap was just a trigger to a bigger realisation of her reality. Movie samajh hi nhi aayi apko
Yeah
Take a bow Raghav Chaitanya...how brillantly you have sung this song❤️
This guy Raghav is outstanding. Hope he will come in lime light.. Unique voice buddy. I m ur fan as a youtuber only. Happy to see u singing in bollywood now. God bless buddy
Tute fute khab ki hayyyy, duniya me rahna kya........ , jhuthe muthe Vado ki lahro me bahna kya......... These lines are heart touching....... Missing someone 🥺
Most underrated song I would say because it's not remake or it's music not given by taniskh 🙂 well done raghav
No doubt Raghav is an amazing singer. And he nailed this song😍
But the music director of this song is Anurag Saikia.
He should also be praised.
Thanks.
Nobody is talking about raghav chaitanya who just nailed it,I feel touch of ar Rehman in this song
easy, deep, delicate and filled with a touching atmosphere, comfortable and comfortable, let the mood relax, good songs to be praised 💕💕💕💕
"Socho zra ky the hum kya se kya ho gye " damn relate with this line 🙃
This movie was not just about a slap. It showed how ignorant her husband n family were after hitting her. It showed that it's very normal for a men to hit women.. like its his right. No sorry or guilt or realization even that he has done something so wrong. That's why she left.. and no just coz of a slap. Beautiful movie n of course the song.
