This is the thing: you expect a linear set, playing just energetic from beginning to end. These are the most easy sets to play. You dont need any skills, talent or knowledge to play a set with just similar tracks. I could teach my mother in 2 hours how to do that, anyone can do it. That's why DJs start like this at the beginning of their careers. Mixing can be done by sync and if you have a playlist with just one style of music it really doesnt matter which track you pick next: every track will fit. But music is all about emotions. As a good DJ you have to take people on a journey through different emotions, and that is what makes the art of DJing. Similar to movies: a good movie will take you through different emotions: happyiness, excitement, love and action. But the movies always end with a beautiful emotion to send people home with a good feeling. The same happens with a good DJ set. People have to go through different emotions and ending a set (or a night) with a beautiful feeling makes a great DJ. This was the first lesson I learned when I was starting. It was Tiesto who told me "one track can be amazing at a right time, but that same track can be terrible if played at the wrong time. knowing your tracks and finding the right time to play them makes a great DJ" - He told me 21 years ago and this was the best advise ever. Why do you think that I have been touring the world successful as headliner for 20 years now? I have no hits, I have no big manager and I have no marketing. I get my bookings because after my sets the bookers come to me and say "that was amazing, we want to have you back again with us"
