Where my thick haired girls at?? Every time I go to a salon they never set aside enough time for me. The last time I did, the stylist’s next client was waiting by the end of my appointment and they had TWO stylists “rough drying” my hair. I HAVE CURLY HAIR. I left looking like Hagrid and cried in my car. 🙄
I’m naturally dirty blonde and was looking to go lighter like I’ve done in the past- this lady had the nerve to tell me going blonder wouldn’t suit me with my skin tone and that she’s gonna do balayage instead... I was too speechless and just let it happen, I came out with brassy stripe hair and now I’m getting it fixed next week before a wedding I have to go to lol

Oh I remember this time. It was about 10+ years ago. I was around 18 or 19 and super duped shy. My Mom and I both went to a salon to get our hair cut at a salon that did walk ins near my work. My Moms haircut went great. Mine not so much. I got this stylist. I showed her a picture of what I was thinking length wise and layers-wise. She scoffed at me and went "You know you'll have to straighten it to look like that."......ok? You don't need to be rude. She left during my haircut a bunch of times to do random shit like answer the phone never apologized for leaving me sitting there or told me she had to leave for a quick sec. She just vanished and then came back several minutes later and started cutting my hair again. This happened at least 4 or 5 times. When she was "done" my hair looked like garbage. Like whole ass garbage. My bangs were crooked none of the layers were even and it was so awkward because my Mom had finished before me so she wanted to be nice and paid for my haircut too. I literally just sat there and balled my eyes out I was so disappointed. The stylist that fixed my hair (because I would not let the first stylist anywhere near me the second time) was absolutely horrified by how bad of a job the first girl did. I'm pretty sure she didn't last there much longer after that incident because I didn't really see her around after that.
Great video! We let go of a stylist who was like these stylist you mentioned. She never liked to do a consultation always would be more preoccupied with having a smoke break than taking care of her clients 🙄 she even fried a girls hair off because she didnt listen to her client. These are the stylist that make our industry look cheap and tacky.
A few years ago I went to a stylist in a salon recommended by a friend. She was a ‘blonde specialist’ in the city, and I wanted to blend my natural color into my ends to make it a little easier to grow out (my hair was bleached but in decent condition, probably a level 7) and she talked me into going lighter instead, insisting that she likes to make ‘dreams come true’ and that my hair will not be damaged. We got it to a very yellow level 8-9 and condition wise it was ruined. I know she didn’t like the result either because she took a before pic but not an after..... I had to cut all my hair off in phases so that I wouldn’t be left with a shaved head and now I’m finally almost back to long, healthy hair but that was a real waste of a few hundred dollars
The $450 for the weird hair that was nothing like they asked for I would have gone FULL Karen mode and made sure I didn’t pay a dime that’s outrageous even if had been done correctly, poor girl I get it tho because I have anxiety and in the past I episode have also been too hesitant to say anything but today I would have been like “oh sorry maybe there was a miscommunication but I meant for this to just be a consultation today I thought you were just doing a test strip”
I got a haircut last saturday and it was totally botched. I asked to keep my lenght, just remove dead ends and some weight from the bottom. I came out with 80s layers and nothing was even on either side. The hair around my apex is so short it falls out a ponytail. Oh I have a piece in front on my left ear that was litteraly 5 inches shorter than my right side. I litteraly just got it fixed somewhere else this afternoon and my new stylist was also like WTF did the other stylist do?! She managed to fix things. My hair is now at least 6 inches shorter than what I wanted but hopefully, it will grow back long enough come next summer so I can tie it without using 23 bobby pins to hold every strand of hair off my face!
but definitely if you notice something or you don't like something that your stylist did or is doing definitely speak up because it helps us do better and get a better understanding of what you want and therefore you hopefully leave happier.

Sorry I did realize I hit random things on my phone before I sent the reply. I detailed my hair history, sent pics both of my hair as well as the end goal, explicitly detailed what I wanted. The stylist I went to agreed on all of this and a price. There were so many problems I did not want to not pay 1 because I know it takes their time and products so if she really messed up on her end I was hoping to let her reschedule to fix it. 2 I didn’t want the salon to wig out and like call the police on me for not paying though I thought she didn’t deserve the money. When I tried to reach out to reschedule it was the biggest mess the salon owner and hairstylist berated me, were rude, and sent friends and other employees in the salon to harass my poor review on their social media.
First of all I love ur hair! Second omg I could not imagine doing a whole ass color service without a consultation! How u even know what colors to use? What does she want ashy or warm tones? I'm completely shocked at her idea of a test stand... damn!
One thing I want to know is what do salons and hairstylists really think about Groupon. My horror story in summary is I had 4 separate groupons for different salons. The first 3 I followed rules and all but they all treated me like a non paying customer. The third one I went to had me wait 90min after my scheduled appointment time for a haircut.... nobody was available or in better terms they didn’t want to do my hair. I obviously wasn’t coming back but I needed to use my Groupon. They finally took me and it took them 2.5hrs to cut my shoulder length hair. Bc one person would shampoo hair disappear for 20min another stylist would condition my hair disappear for 30min, another stylist towel dried it then took me to chair to wait for someone else to cut it Another 40min later someone cuts it then says if they blow dry & style it it’s an additional $25 charge but Groupon was for shampoo cut and blow dry. So. She got another stylist to come blow dry my hair just with dryer which took her 30min to come do it by then my hair was air dried and it took her less than 5min to dry it and she didn’t style it. I looked like a dog fresh out of a bath with air dried hair. I left a $10 tip but should’ve left $2 instead for the team effort in taking 4hours total of my day for a simple 45min haircut nobody wanted to honor bc it was a Groupon. I was fed up that at The 4th salon I went to I will admit that I did something bad.... I decided not to mention the Groupon. I made appt I was greeted taken in a timely manner everyone was nice when it came time to pay I pulled out my Groupon they said they couldn’t honor it. I told them I only have $20 cash on me that was suppose to be stylist tip but I don’t have $65 for a simple shampoo haircut blow dry that coupon should already covered. Everyone hated me treated me poorly so there was no need to come back. they had to get manager and manager said I had to pay at least $25. I said I only have $20 cash and that’s all I can offer with my Groupon. So I left Groupon and $20 on desk and said “this is all you’re getting, do what you want with it bc cash was all I had to leave as tip” then I left. I Never bothered getting Groupon again. I think it’s pointless to get Groupon when salons treat those clients poorly and ignore/avoid them. I hate being treated like a non paying customer or a non tipper. It kills the experience
Here’s the thing: a lot of salon owners do Groupon (I’m assuming) because they think it’ll bring more people into their business, but the stylists who have to actually do the work are making next to nothing on Groupon services. The service is already heavily discounted as is, and then Groupon takes a large percentage of that already low price. Unless the stylist works independently/ owns the salon, they’re most likely making commission, so after Groupon takes their cut, and the salon takes theirs, the stylist barely gets anything. So it’s like they’re working for free, which really isn’t fair. I worked in a salon that took Groupons and I was forced to do the services because that’s what the owner wanted and I had no say as an employee. It’s not right to treat any client badly, but I understand their frustration and lack of enthusiasm. My advice is, if you want a cheap service, go to a chain salon (like Super Cuts) but if you want to go to a private, more luxurious salon, just pay full price and forget Groupon.
The point of Groupon from a business angle is to get clients in the door and hopefully they will become a regular full price client. The flaw in the system is that Groupon clients are notorious for being cheap salon hoppers so stylists feel like they’re doing a free service on a client who will never return to pay full price. I’m honestly surprised Groupon is still a thing. I’ve been in the business since Groupon first started and though I never used it myself I’ve heard nothing but horrible experiences from both business owners and customers.
I really don’t know who else could make these red pieces look good especially with light makeup but for some reason I absolutely LOVE it on Sam. It looks so good, maybe because she’s a professional she knows exactly where to place them or something? Because I don’t know how it doesn’t look messy but actually really arresting and vivacious? The only thing I can fathom with these crazy stories is that these stylists are on drugs! How is the clients scalp burning from a balayage there should be no lightener anywhere near the scalp! And who starts an ombré at 7pm?!
My horror story is that I tried to get my naturally light brown hair with blondish highlights to blonde with box dye in 7th grade. It was legit yellow/orange for so long, but it kinda worked itself out cuz my natural blonde highlights kinda blended into it as it grew out. All of that is all cut off, and my hair thanks me😅

Sorry but there is no fcking way in hell I would keep my mouth shut and pay $450 after someone has left me with hair I didn’t want. I understand being polite, but $450 charge for what supposed to be a consultation is where anyone should cross the line and speak up. What the hell. I’m as shock with the hair stylist behavior as I am with the customer writing this story. Honestly, no offense to this girl but this is not just the hair stylist’s fault. If you as a customer let someone walk over you like that then obviously they will keep doing it on anyone else that allows them to do so. I’m sure that trickery wasn’t her first time. She might even have been in need of money and ignored the consultation request just to get more coin quickly. Ugh no! By the way, I love your nails 😍
Same, I just started doing it myself. I've only gone 2 times ever to the salon for balayage. The first stylist did alright but was rough on my hair. When I was like 15 I stupidly decided to go to a beauty school to get my natural red hair bleached for the first time. I wanted to be blonde so they covered my entire head in bleach and it burned my scalp so bad. I left with yellow hair and sores all over my scalp. They gave me Paul Mitchell Awapuhi spray to put on it, which didn’t help. Lol
My brothers friend who was a stylist came over to give me some highlights in my virgin light brown hair. She put the foils in and when it was time to take them out she told me to take them out and wash my hair and then she left...didn’t even check it or tone it. Not to mention she still charged $75 and didn’t even follow through with finishing. I was horrified to see brassy yellow looking highlights. 😫 It made my junior year prom pretty awful
Girl no one specializes in red hair! Haha not that I’ve seen at least. They ALL specialize in blonde. I don’t think they’d make a lot of red hair was their speciality since the majority of girls are paying to get their hair bleached in some way.
I’ve gone to stylists that are specialized in red hair 👩🏽🦰 there’s different shades of it just like blonde, I went to one of them when I wanted a copper red color that other stylists who were more into blonde colors couldn’t really get the shade right.
Seems like a tough business model to specialize in something that not many clients ask for. I love doing reds but it’s just not a highly requested color, wish it was!
I cringe at that 2nd one 😬 I'm p!$$3d off for her! I hate she didn't speak up (this used to be me!) & the fact that the "Stylist" got paid $450 for some garbage the client didn't even want or ask for!!!
I hate it when I arrive right on time to my hair appointment and then I just have to sit there for like a hour before the stylest tells me there ready. Like don't tell me to come at 10:00 if you're not going to be ready for me till 11! 🙄

Omg one time a new stylist I was going to see forgot she booked with me (she had the flu or something when she booked with me, which I understand). Idk that second story made it sound so much worse than what it actually was I mean at least she got like a nice balayage instead of half her hair got burnt off I mean it wasn't an ombre but it wasn't a terrible balayage either but the way that they described it was like the end of the Earth. sometimes clients just are so dramatic
Alyssa Martiñon that wasn't what she wanted though ??? she got charged for something she didn't want or ask for, that's not being over dramatic, she asked for ombré and got all of her hair bleached. she didn't even ask for that that day she just wanted a consultation. did you even watch the video ??

I’ve been loving your new set up for videos! Also you are definitely giving me inspo for my next nail appointment!
LOVE your hair color
This HAIRRRRR BRO YESSSS
Didn’t realize I was so early 😂 you’re awesome Sam! Love your hair and your stories.
Thank you :)
I love watching your videos Sam! I’m not into hair or anything beauty related but I love your content. My favorite are your vlogs!
Oh god, some of these are horrendous!!
Your hair right now looks amazingggg 😄
Yay you uploaded! I was just rewatching some of ur old videos because I needed my Sam Vay hair conversation fix! Lol
Please keep this hair color on you for long, it gives you such a glow!!🧡🧡🧡
Watching this while bleaching my hair - I rather ruin my hair for free (well, cost of product) than pay for it to be done terribly. 🙃
Same, I just started doing it myself. I've only gone 2 times ever to the salon for balayage. The first stylist did alright but was rough on my hair. The second one make nasty chunky highlights on the top of my head and left me sitting with my neck against the sink for 30minutes and it hurt. I'm paying at least $300 for this!
@@Vanereall ahhh - as someone with chronic neck pain, I HATE when I have to lean back over that sink. I worked for a salon owner & she used to touch up my roots for free... but damn, did I *hate* that part. haha.. UGH! They did you dirty, on top of the terrible work lol, Im sorry. big ole oof.
@@blushface now I’m doing my hair ok since it’s hard to reach and see the back of my head and I also have really long hair too. My hair job looks decent and I’m ok with it. At least I’m not paying someone $320 to mess up my hair
@@Vanereall word!
It helps a bit to use two mirrors (one handheld, one big one), in case you didn't already try that but I am sure you probably did. 😅 I got so tired of dealing with my own long hair that I chopped it to shoulder length. Godspeed!
@@blushface you’re right! That’s what I do but it’s still so hard with long hair! I thought about chopping my hair too but it’s one of my stand-out characteristics. You made a good decision, I imagine it’s way easier and quicker to get your hair colored
these videos are really great because we can always learn something from these experiences 🙌🏼❤ thank you so much for sharing so much knowledge with us queen! sending tons of beautiful energy and love ❤✨
i cant stop staring at ur hair! im obsessedddddd!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍
😫 It made my junior year prom pretty awful
ok so ur whole look looks awesome !!! 🙌🏻yas girl
need that top since its off shoulder ! love it
love this stories !!
I'm living for your hair like this!
@@Mjspc really? That is very rare. I’ve yet to come across anyone who specializes in red hair specifically.
Seems like a tough business model to specialize in something that not many clients ask for. I love doing reds but it’s just not a highly requested color, wish it was!
I cringe at that 2nd one 😬
I'm p!$$3d off for her! I hate she didn't speak up (this used to be me!) & the fact that the "Stylist" got paid $450 for some garbage the client didn't even want or ask for!!!
Omg I’m loving your hair!!! 😍😍😍
OBSESSSED W THE RED ON U 🥰❤️❤️
I hate it when I arrive right on time to my hair appointment and then I just have to sit there for like a hour before the stylest tells me there ready. Like don't tell me to come at 10:00 if you're not going to be ready for me till 11! 🙄
Love this video. I 👍 all your vids, I enjoy just hearing life from a hair stylist the blogs. The subscriber horror stories and your stories as well. Thank youm
Wait your hair color changed I love it
This is in my recommended as my hairstylist of 7 years quit doing hair and I’m trying to find a new one. 😳
One time I went to get my hair cut and told her I wanted bangs and she told me bangs wouldn’t fit my cute little face so didn’t do it lol
Do more of these videos!! ❤❤
I LITERALLY got my hair fried off at a really high end salon. I had long dark hair down to my butt and the lady fried it off to my shoulders and still charged me😍
Oh no I would have been in jail
Ashley i did not have virgin hair but it was nottttt box dye
ahh i’m never this early!!!! love you girl!
i love these videos!
Love this video!!!
I love your hair!
Omg one time a new stylist I was going to see forgot she booked with me (she had the flu or something when she booked with me, which I understand). But I had already driven an hour to my appointment from work, and was an hour and a half from home. She had asked if I could reschedule and I was super annoyed and stood my ground. She ended up meeting me and did a good job. It was just annoying.
This hair was made for you!
Hey Sam!
Hey!! :)
HOLEE SHIIIITTTT I LOVE THE COLOR
I love these💎
Love your hair and you 💗💗💗
Love the hair!

Hello Girlll ❤️

You’re hair is so perfect! I love this look!
I loveeeeeeeeee the red/orange on you omg 😍😍 🔥
i am lovingthose nails:)
Your hair color 💗
I went to Paul Mitchell the school for a haircut and it lasted 3 hours and was so bad someone had to come fix it after 3 hours
YaY ❤❤❤
@@briarchambliss ik its not what she wanted I'm just saying she the way she made it sound was like here hair looked horrendous. It didn't though. it might not be what she wanted but it wasn't as bad as she made it sound and thats why I also commented if you see something your stylist is doing that ur questioning always ask because it helps us now what to change etc. And help us understand you more and make u leaving happy. But I'm also saying as a hairstylist just like sam we come across people that don't make sense and we have to figure it out or maybe the client talks about how their old stylist fucked up their hair but sometimes it was them that was the problem.
@@briarchambliss idk if your a stylist if understand. Shit happens and both parties are to blame the stylist should of listened more and the client should of spoke up. And all I'm saying is she made it sound worse than it actually was. An it could of been.
