      Rubinoaksacademy You’re very welcome. It probably depends on your child. I have heard that Abeka is ahead by about 1 grade. I honestly can’t tell you if that is true, because we’ve only worked with Abeka. They also have a “Handbook for Reading” book. That is good if your child struggles with sounds. I can’t remember if I have it in my 2nd grade videos. But I’m pretty sure it is in a 1st grade video. You can find it in the playlist. They use them for 1st-3rd grade. I hope you find this helpful.

      Simply Homeschool thank you! He’s actually super advanced in reading. It’s more the grammar portion I’m worried about. He’s doing good with it, I just don’t want him to struggle.

    Great flip through-TFS! Can you tell me how the readers line up with the language workbooks and spelling? Specifically wanting to understand if the readers have the same vocabulary and spelling words grammar etc that's found in the seatwork/ spelling and language- TY!

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Home-School in the City. No they do not have the same spelling words. The phonics and language seatwork is now mainly teaching rules like, root words, suffix, prefix, nouns, how to make complete sentences. As well as different types of sentences. Their Spelling words are completely different. They have a week to memorize them and then they take a test at the end of week. Now, in their readers, there are “words to watch for” but they do not use them in spelling nor phonics/language. So they are all completely different. I think Abeka just keeps them all aligned as far as reading, phonics level. If that makes sense. 😊

    Hello and thank you for this wonderful video! Please I would like to ask if it is really necessary to get the Phonics and Language 2 Teacher's Edition? I did not use it to teach my daughter last year and I want to make sure that we are not missing out on something very important. Please what is advice?

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re welcome! With their curriculum this year, they have dictations at the bottom of their worksheets (tests and seatwork). The only way you will know what they have to write is by having the Teacher Key. So if you are willing to skip that then you could do without. But in my opinion I would purchase them.

    Based on your flip through, it looks like there's not a huge emphasis on creative writing as much as the grade 1 language book had. Or are they expected to practice this in the 'writing with phonics 2' book? My son doesn't know cursive yet so I think it would be a quite a jump to use that one. Otherwise I'd have to supplement with our own creative writing workshop in a notebook.

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Beloved1 You are 100% correct. The creative writing is done with the writing with phonics. Now depending on how fast your son can learn cursive it can possibly work. With the 2nd grade writing they do start off with review on letters. Also it would probably depend on if you were planning on doing accredited or unaccredited with Abeka. Abeka’s grading on Cursive is pretty tough. But honestly, if you would prefer skipping on the cursive all together, getting a supplementary writing curriculum would be your best bet. (In my opinion)

    Thanks for this video! Do you feel like the Abeka Language books are advanced for their grade level, in general? I'm trying to decide which level to get for my 2nd grader. He's a quick learner and really smart, but he's still lacking some of the basic phonics knowledge so I can't quite decide which grade level to have him start at for Abeka. Does this book cover or review some of the more basic phonics rules towards the beginning? Any advice you might have would be really great! :)

    • @simplyhomeschool18

      Hi @Laura Gonzalez. Yes, I do believe that Abeka is advanced in their grade levels. They do review for a little while when the school year starts, but hey move pretty fast. They have a really strong language arts program.

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bethani. Ok, I am going to try my best to explain this. Lol. If you look inside your Teacher Key for Phonics Language you will see either vowels, letters, blends, or words. The teacher on the video will tell them a word and they will either have to write the vowel, the letter, the blend, or the word. So I would just suggest you make up your own words using the vowels and blends from the answer key. 😊 I hope this makes sense. Have a wonderful day!

    Hey its me again. I'm considering doing full-blown abeka for 2nd grade next year. My daughter is currently using level 1 of the good and the Beautiful. She's not done with it but our plan is to work through the summer to complete it. I'm worried about gaps because of the change of curriculum. Does abeka do a good job of reviewing the first grade content in 2nd grade?

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Elizabeth. Abeka, does review from the the previous year taught. If you go to their website they have assessment tests, so that you can make sure your kiddo is placed correctly. Keep in mind, when ever you change a curriculum, there are going to be a couple gaps, that you may have to work on with them. Or they’re taught the same thing over again. At least that has been our experience. But, everything works out. 😉

Including their 10 reading books, Reading Comprehension, Writing with Phonics, Spelling Poetry, Handbook for Reading (phonic sounds) and the Primary Bible Reader. So they have multiple Language related subjects. I hope this helps 🤗
