    just a general tip, the darker the leaf of the plant the less light it needs! if the plant is quite pale or veriegated it needs more sunlight!

      i'm just assuming you live in the U.S. and if so,is it true that every house,apartment and building has AC installed in it?
      merely curious because here in most european countries it's used sparely (in my experience).

    • @Vurolvurol
      @Vurolvurol 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      but can he do this hey, a fellow European here (The Netherlands)! Yes, a lot of houses in the us have AC’s and that’s quite normal. In the Netherlands it’s a rare thing to see an AC in someone’s home because the weather isn’t so crazy hot over here!

      but can he do this - I’m from Ohio (the u.s of course) & id say 90% of houses & buildings have ac. Some have it running through vents in their house & others use ac units in the windows that you see hanging out. If not they definitely have fans, it gets wayyyyy to hot over here !

      Sarah Elaine i come from germany and you wouldn't believe it,but for the last few summers we've been hitting 40 degrees celsius (104 fahrenheit?i think) on some days and our way of cooling down included visiting the outdoor swimming pool which is of course not an option right now 😔 just imagening how sweltering hot it gets for the people in south europe without AC makes me break out in a sweat

    I use this app called Planta, and it tells you when to water/best lighting for each plant, that may help! Sometimes plants take a while to adjust to their new home so that might be what’s happening to the monstera, but it’s slightly concerning that so much of it is yellowing/browning so fast

    I'm in no way a plant expert, but I went through some bull with my monstera and the "it's either too much or too little water" forum posts (wow, helpful, thanks, lol).
    Anyway, one monstera tip that that turned out to be helpful for me, is that with underwatering, the tips of leaves curl under themselves, but they don't seem to do it with overwatering.
    They always curl a bit naturally, but it happens very strongly when the plant needs water. Yours doesn't seem to curl much, so I'd guess it's overwatering.
    The bright, saturated yellow also suggests that; with underwatering a whole leaf gradually goes yellow, in my experience.
    You might want to check the roots for rot; I ended up putting my monstera in a transparent pot so I can check without pulling the whole thing out.
    If the darkened bits have a lot of gray in them, they've been attacked by fungus.
    If the leaf is verfy damaged, I'd advise to cut it off, so the plant doesn't waste resources on it.

    it’s ok to keep them in their nursery pots for a little while as long as they still fit. i believe that fire chief on the tag of one of your plants is referring to the variety, the botanical name is heuchera. about the problem with your swedish ivy, the only thing i can think that would cause the bottom of the stem to die is over watering. i would remove those stems with the dead pieces on the swedish ivy, if the alive pieces on the end are long enough you can try to propagate them. is your monstera kept in room with high humidity? usually browning leaves either mean overwatering or it needs a bigger pot, but also monsteras require high humidity and that could be it

  • @maggie-linn
    @maggie-linn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    if the stem is brown, you should pluck it from the pot so it leaves room for more healthy stems to grow. i do that when the bottom of the stem is brown even when the leaves are still green and the top looks good. more of the plant will grow because plucking the dead stem from the pot will leave more room for the roots to spread out

  • @T.H.H
    @T.H.H 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I think you might be overwatering your aloe or there isn’t good drainage in the pot it’s in, either way it’s getting too much water and it’s causing parts of the leaf to rot and go black. I would pluck that one leaf off, try to pluck it from the base and maybe use it in a smoothie or on your skin ✨

    Friendly advice from a fellow plant lover, some of your plants may not be getting enough oxygen in their soil. Also the soil they have may not drain well which can then lead to what is known as “root rot”. I always check my plants with my hands, I put my hand or a coupe of fingers in the soil to see if they may need a full watering or a light watering, maybe even a sprits with my plant mister. A small humidifier might also be a good addition for the pants that need a little more humidity. And can help keep the leaves and foliage “hydrated” for lack of a better word as well as helping to keep dust and other debris off of their leaves in order for them to breathe. There is a product you can find at Lowe's or most places they sell plant soil called leaf shine which can help but always do your research first and if not a simple wipe down with a napkin or cloth with some clean water (not to many minerals) and by that I mean (preferably distilled water) or drinking water can help as well. Water straight from your sink may contain too many minerals and do the opposite of helping your plants. Collecting rain water when it rains is the best but if you’re unable to do so I’d say only water your plants with distilled water. Hope some of this helps 😊

  • @cheyennecope2792
    @cheyennecope2792 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For the Swedish Ivy browning halfway through the stem could be from the chemicals in your tap water. Make sure you are letting the water sit out or you are using spring water. I would cut and propagate the part that’s alive though

  • @SuperMegaHeroSlayer

    Good job getting the coleus to flower!!!! My trick for my coleus plants is to check out where new growth is coming in and cut the plant a couple of inches. It hurts to do it to them at first, but I got tired of seeing all the new growth dying on me so now I cut them pretty aggressively and it really pays off. Probably not the best tutorial but look into it if you're interested! Some of those really big leaves can really drain them of energy, sadly :(

  • @ella9163
    @ella9163 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    the black spots on the aloe could be because you're overwatering it! a good rule of thumb is to only water it when the top inch of soil is completely dry

  • @samanthajo5574
    @samanthajo5574 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    For the Swiss Ivy maybe you could take the healthy sections of the plant and propagate them. Google will help if your unfamiliar with propagation. Also for the Bromeliad plant did you ever read about how the “mother plant” dies and you have to re-pot their “pups” and regrow a whole new plant? I love your videos and hope this helped (╹◡╹)♡

  • @AlignASMR

    Loooved this video. Totally into plants these days so this was fun. It’s actually a good thing to keep the plants in their nursery pots for awhile so they can get established in their new home. As long as they’re not root bound, should be all good.

    For the monstera / fruit salad plant - they like to be very dry between watering. I usually only water every 3 weeks. Indirect light is also key (in my experience). Direct light and being right in front of a window can burn the leaves. Being in a darker spot can also help with consistency in watering - the soil will stay damper and the plant can gradually take the water as it needs throughout the weeks (rather than the sun drying out the soil super quick in a bright sunny spot). Hope this helps! :)

    when i kept my monstera indoors it worked really well in bright, indirect light (away from an air vent preferably, as they thrive in humid conditions); also, and this is just speaking from personal experience, but I've learned that when I bring a plant home from the nursery, I give it a few weeks to get used to living with me. leaf loss and some yellowing leaves are perfectly normal while your plant gets used to its new home. i try to water my monstera every week or so (or when the top layer of soil is completely dry) - but if you find that your plant just isn't loving the indoors I would definitely suggest moving it outside in a shady spot where it gets plenty of indirect light. i recently moved mine outside, granted i do live in fl so its hella humid and rainy all the time BUT its been thriving more than ever! we get new leaves almost every week at this point. i too was convinced i had a black thumb and just started caring for plants but its been so fulfilling watching them grow w me

    Also Aloe Vera is just a very sensitive kind of succulent. Bruises very easy and sunburns very easy. Try not to knock it or touch it too much but they will always have some spots just keep telling her how pretty she is and she will grow.

    -Water your plants with ice instead of just plain water (juss spread a bunch of ice on top of the soil nd let it melt) It'll give them a bright "alive" look
    -Also you can take your plant out of the pot and mix the soil with the little absorbing bead thingys from inside a diper (I hope yu kno what I'm talking about 😊 lolz) it alows the soil to hold Water

    check under the leaves of your monstera for spider mites, that may be why its yellowing and turning brown at the tips of the leaves. If it is, wipe the leaves down thoroughly with soapy water, and spray neem oil on them.
    the roots could've been damaged and that's why they're dying, its hard to tell because we can't really see the leaves up close.

    The Colieus will not survive as it is an annual. They can over Winter in a warm greenhouse or indoors. I am in the UK but we grow them from seed each year. Succulents do need water, the Aloe and Donkey Tail. I think your other outdoor plant is also known as a Huchera. It should go in the ground and should come back every year. Hope that helps 🙂

    The spots on the aloe plant are called aloe rust. It's a fungal disease not uncommon among commercially sold aloe. The spots usually don't spread, but they are made worse by overwatering. If it looks like it's spreading and it's only on a single leaf you can always remove it!
