Thank you for this tutorial! My door was hard to close for years and I just begrudgingly accepted it. Then one day the ball popped out and bounced off of my head. I didn't expect there to be any info online when I put in the long explanation, but there you were! Thanks so much. I did it myself. Even "distorting" the end with a plyers. Enjoyed the humorous side pics!
My husband wasn't at home and my french doors refused to close and when I pushed them the Steel Balls fell out of both French doors, after watching your video on how to fix them, I went and got my needle nose pliers and fixed both French doors. Thank you for your wonderful help and a terrific video..
Well, I'll be darn! My closet door has been getting harder and harder to open and I had no idea why, so I just ignored it! LOL! Tonight I found a little ball on the floor and realized my door wasn't closing properly because there was a spring sticking up hitting the door frame. Well, I immediately went to YOUTube and found this video. I followed your instructions and to my amazement it worked!!! And it was an easy fix. Im 70 years old and I FIXED my closet door!!!!! YEA!!! No repairman, no expense! Loved that!! Thank you so much for your detailed instructions!
My man, you are a genius! And I learned a new term today as well. I had to search for "ball closet door stopper" and "ball on top of closet door" in order to find this video. 😄 I also put some lubricating oil (sewing machine oil) into the cup the ball sits in and then push the ball in a couple times. Door close and latch perfect now!
Thanks for your tutorial! I saved myself from going to the local Home Depot and having to buy replacement ones and a step ladder. I appreciate the time you took to make this video! It took me less than 5 minutes to fix both doors. I saved $$ today and time, best day ever! :)
This video is great. My magnetic closet door latch was sticking and I watched this video and fixed my cloest door that wouldn't shut. The ball was too high and was hitting the door frame. I took the ball out, wiped some WD40 on it and put it back screwing the ball back down. Fixed!!! Thanks so much. If a 72 year old woman can fix her door using your DIY website anyone can. I use this site a lot. Thank you!
Thank you, I am trying to learn how to be my own husband so I can teach my son some of the things a dad should be teaching his son. So, thank you for sharing your time and knowledge with those of us who need proper guidance on how to maintain things around the house. Greatly appreciated.❤
I have these doors that go to my laundry room. And boy, let me tell you one of the doors had that ball pop out twice. I think the first time I fixed it by a complete fluke, but it didn't last long, and it did it again. I should have Googled this video the first time. Your post was super helpful to this old woman, and it worked like a charm. Thank you for your post.❤
Thanks for making this video. My ball clasp was stuck initially because the door won’t even open, then when I opened it with some wd40 the ball flew out as I was adjusting the tension. Using a wrench to tighten the opening was a very useful tip that helped me fix the clasp! Cheers!
Thank you SO much. Over the years, when it got stuck, I just repeatedly pressed on it until it felt smooth again. And it did do the trick, but I didn’t realize that the real problem wasn’t being taken care of. Gonna work on this right now
Thanks a lot! Moved into a house a few months back with 2 sets of these doors. One door on each would not latch closed. You made this simple and easy. Appreciate it!
Our oldest son is obsessed with marbles, so when we found what looked like a marble in our bedroom this morning, we figured he was the reason...until I was closing our bathroom's French Doors and saw the spring all cockeyed 😳 We haven't lived in our current home more than 7 months so we're still learning about this homes "features". After 2 tries on my own I realized I needed to watch a TH-cam video and I cannot thank you enough for how informative and straightforward your video was! My toddler will now be able to open the doors on his own, but I feel that's better than this bearing popping out and potentially hurting someone! It's in our calendar now to tighten the cylinder when we change our air filters😃
Thank you so much Sir.. I just got fixed this problem in my daughter's room. I found the ball and see the spring inside. This video solved the issue. I appreciate you helping people. Thank you once again!!
Your video was the first one I found on this situation that just happened to me and I had it fixed in short order. Thank you so very much for taking the time to make and post this video!!
My wife woke up to me drunk (just a little tipsy) at 2am to me fixing our french doors. Thank you so much! The amount of noise and pressure used to open and close the doors would sometimes wake the baby. Not anymore though these babies close so easy now. Thank you
Thank you so much. I’m currently at a rental place and really didn’t want to have to make this become a problem with the person I’m renting from. Glad I could fix it myself.
I was sitting watching tv the other night with my Manhattan and all of a sudden I heard what I thought was a gunshot and a loud PING noise in the stairwell. I jumped up and told my husband that somebody had probably shot a gun into one of the windows. He looked at all the windows and told me he didn't think so and as I was walking up the stairs, I stepped on the ball bearing and thought maybe it was from some kind of bee bee gun or musket, but that was the Manhattan talking. Then the next day I noticed the closet door wouldn't close on one side. Ohhhhh. Then I found your great video. I try to solve one problem a day and this did the trick. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this. My home office just had the ball go flying yesterday, and this allowed me to fix it properly. Also went around our house and did adjustments/maintenance to the other 5 (1) set of french doors we have. Thanks again.
Thank you so much! You rock! I found the ball after it shot across the room but had no idea how to return it to it's rightful place. Took about 60 seconds to do the repair after months of closing the door and mangling the spring
This was super helpful. I didn’t want to schedule an appointment for the maintenance guy to come up because that would’ve taken weeks so this really helped me out!
Great video! The other day heard a bang. Had no idea where it came from. Last night just happened to look down below the bed and saw that ball! I was clueless how it got there. Thought it came from the bedframe. Then when I went to close the door it didn't close and I looked up and saw this Mars like telescopic image! (the spring). So I'll attempt to fix that today. The other french door has been very difficult to open and close for months now. I'll work on that too from what I learned in your excellent video. Thank you.
Hugely helpful! Thanks! This totally worked. I tried to skip the step of squeezing the tube thingy, but you were right that I needed to do that step (otherwise, the ball still popped out). All fixed now!
Thank you! This video was awesome. I greatly appreciate you showing not only how to adjust but fix the ball coming out problem. Saved me from thinking I needed new hardware!
Perfect explanation! The little ball popped out of one of our doors YEARS ago and the other one was still in but that wouldn't stay closed either. I able to fix both doors easily in about 2 minutes. Thank you!
I could have done without the schtick but your technique for fixing the ball catch was right on! I've just fixed/adjusted all 6 ball catches in my home.
My ball popped out of the device and this video was very helpful. I fixed it in no time exactly as described in this video. I also enjoy the pictures periodically inserted on the sidelines to keep the video light. Thanks!
Thanks so much for this video. The darn ball almost hit me when it shot out of the holder yesterday morning. Your video was clear and concise and it took me seconds to pinch the holder and screw it back in. The door had been hard to open for a while so now I know what to do if it happens again. Subscribed.
This made my day. I still had the ball and spring (which thankfully wasn;t mangled) and it was a 3 minute time comittment to fix something that has been amiss for months.
Thank you so much for making this excellent, fun video. It was such a feeling of satisfaction to fix this "ball fall-out" myself. I also just preventively tightened another one to prevent that ball from falling out.
This episode was on March "forth" (fourth in 2017)! Today, 7/1/2024, I "marched forth," by finding this episode! Thank you! Why didn't I think to tighten that metal tube to keep the ball joint from popping out? The problem closet door is fixed? I'm happy. My wife is happy. Even our ol' puppy is happy!
Thank you for this video! My pantry door was broken for weeks - as I finally resolved to go to HOME DEPOT and replace the entire mechanism, I saw your video and was able to fix it!!
First your clip was funny 😄 and second thank you very much for saving my ball and my head!! I love to cook and you have no idea how many times this dang ball dropped on top of my head!! It’s hurt bad. My hubby fixed once and it dropped on my head again. I searched “door with metal balls” many clips came up and I selected yours. I’m so grateful because your clip made it easier for a lady like me to understand. I watched the clip one time & I have good memories so I fixed my door less than 3 minutes. The hardest part was bringing the steps up to the kitchen!! Thank you very much.
This is great. The Jeldwyn video describes how to replace the entire ball clasp unit but doesn't discuss how to replace just the ball. Also they don't explain that when the door gets hard to open, it's time to adjust. Also they weren't humorous like you.
Excellent video and very helpful, I feel the spring tension is too much on these types of closures, mine popped out on its own without even using it. Your idea of seating the cylinder below the horizon is a game changer, I’ll adjust the ones that are impossible to close:)
This was a great instructional video. So glad I was able to find the exact ball catch that is on my door, and your video made it easy for me to see how to repair mine after the ball came loose.
Thank you for this video. I've never had ball clasp doors before and the ball popped out. Without this I don't know if I would have figured out how to fix it and now I know how to adjust so it isn't so tough to close.
Just fished fixing our door! THANK YOU!!! However the main cylinder that holds the threaded cylinder (ball & spring) just fell through the hole in the top of the door that was holding this whole mechanism. 🤦🏻♀️ We are in an apartment, no maintenance calls during Covid, so we attempted to fixed it on our own. It’s working, for now.
HI This Guy. Fantastic video! I have the same type of doors and I'm experiencing the exact same issues that you described. Love your editing style and sense of humor. Great job man! Very helpful!
Hey that was so funny and informative. I have a missing ball and a bent up spring. My wife told me to fix this or else. I didn't want the "or else" LOL so I went to TH-cam and found your video. Thanks for the help and laughs.
Cecil D you can replace the entire cylinder with a new one and a new ball. They sell them at the hardware store for $6. In case the ball doesn't surface.
Thank you so much for your video. Just the other day the ball flew out and hit my husband in the head. I found the ball but the ball would not stay in the hole. It kept popping back out. So I found your video and you fixed it for me. I can't thank you enough. The door has been missed up for about 2 weeks now. But now... It's FIXED thanks to your video. 🤗😀😋👌🏾👍🏾
So I've been replacing my ball bearing into the socket like you said for years now. I agree with crimping the topside of the socket thingy, but often that isn't enough. Lately I've been crushing the spring to make it less spring-y. I am at the point of frustration where I may replace the whole socket.
Thx, my ball kept popping out with the spring sticking up. This was just the fix I needed. I sprayed some WD40 on top & bottom afterwards and it closes smoother than it ever has.
Thank you for this tutorial! My door was hard to close for years and I just begrudgingly accepted it. Then one day the ball popped out and bounced off of my head. Enjoyed the humorous side pics!

Glad this was helpful

So glad to here this was helpful Lori K!
the photos throughout the commentary is top notch lmao. watched your whole video instead of skipping to the good parts haha.
Glad you found them beneficial. Some folks don’t like them.
This video is great. My magnetic closet door latch was sticking and I watched this video and fixed my cloest door that wouldn't shut. The ball was too high and was hitting the door frame. This is the best presentation on TH-cam that I've ever seen. Hilarious, yet totally informative. Thanks for making my year!

I watched this video and got my door fixed immediately. Your video is so helpful. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much Sir.. I just got fixed this problem in my daughter's room. I found the ball and see the spring inside. This video solved the issue. I appreciate you helping people. Thank you once again!!

Thank you dude! Here 7 years later. Just the fix I needed.
This was such a super-helpful video - and I love your sense of humour! Thanks so much!
Glad this was helpful Patrick
Thank you. The ball popped out the other day and you so easily (and with great humour) showed how to fix it.
My husband is about to call me the GODDESS of home repair. Thank u! 😍😍😍😍
This is the most helpful video i have ever seen! You taught a 61 year old woman how to fix the doors in her house!!
So happy this was helpful Becky!! I also appreciate the channel support.

I haven't had so much fun watching a home improvement video in a long time. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!

So happy to help out!
Best tutorial ever! Thank you!
Great video, helped me fix ball popping out instead of replacing the entire thing. Thank you for making the video for people like me.
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the walk-through, I fixed my door to my closet thanks to your help :)
Perfect explanation! The little ball popped out of one of our doors YEARS ago and the other one was still in but that wouldn't stay closed either. I able to fix both doors easily in about 2 minutes. Thank you!

Thank you for this video. Super helpful for fixing the ball clasp. Pinching the end worked like a charm.

@@ThisGuyProductions Thank you. We may indeed need that in the future.

appreciated the instructions as well as the humor. Well done!
My ball had popped out, but I still had it. This fix worked like a charm. Thank you!
Glad this worked. I also have a video showing how to replace the entire mechanism if you need it.
WOWSER!! Can’t wait to try this!!! I’m so grateful I found you ‼️
So helpful!!! 2023 and your video is still helping people.
This is great. The Jeldwyn video describes how to replace the entire ball clasp unit but doesn't discuss how to replace just the ball. Also they don't explain that when the door gets hard to open, it's time to adjust. Also they weren't humorous like you.
Thanks for covering how to reinsert the ball. Very helpful.
So glad to help out.
Super helpful video😃 thank you for sharing.
Glad to help out.
Great video!! Perfect step by step directions and funny too!
Thanks Ben
Excellent video and very helpful, I feel the spring tension is too much on these types of closures, mine popped out on its own without even using it. Your idea of seating the cylinder below the horizon is a game changer, I’ll adjust the ones that are impossible to close:)
Glad this has been beneficial!
THANK YOU!! That was an easy fix for something that was driving me crazy. Thank you for helping.
Fantastic and straightforward explanation. I was able to change out the ball clasp with no problem. Thank you.
Glad it helped
Great music choice and easy instruction. Took just a couple seconds to fix my stuck door. Thank you.
Awesome Brian! Glad this was helpful.
Ah ha! You made it easy. Thank you!!!!!!!
This was a great instructional video. So glad I was able to find the exact ball catch that is on my door, and your video made it easy for me to see how to repair mine after the ball came loose.
Happy this was helpful
Thanks bro. Still helping people in 2023
Thank you for this video. I've never had ball clasp doors before and the ball popped out. Without this I don't know if I would have figured out how to fix it and now I know how to adjust so it isn't so tough to close.
Glad it was useful!
The Beasties! Good information..... information I've been looking for! Plus hilarious graphics. Thanks for posting.
Anytime Jason. Glad to help out a fellow Beastie fan.

Extremely informative video. Thanks again.
Glad to help out. The cylinder that fell in shouldn't be a problem long term.
I was able to take care of the issue in less than 5 mins after watching your video.
Thank you so much fir sharing.
Cheers,
comichunter1014 happy to help
Fantastic video! Easy to follow and saved my French door!
So glad to help out Lisa.
Great video. Love the inserted pics and clips to make it funny.
Oh my heck this helped so much. I watched so many videos but yours explained it so well! ❤️
Shelbi Rowley thank you
Great tutorial! Was able to fix the situation in minutes.
Thanks!
HI This Guy. Fantastic video! I have the same type of doors and I'm experiencing the exact same issues that you described. Love your editing style and sense of humor. Great job man! Very helpful!
Appreciate your support Larry!
The ball for mine kept slipping through
Thanks for the pliers squeezing tip, it really works!
Glad this helped out Iris!
Thx, Really Helpful...and funny👍
Your video was a tremendous help to me. Thank you.
So happy to help.
That did the trick! Didn't have small needlenose pliers so I used scissors. Thank you very much.
Glad it helped!
great video. Fixed the ball flying out and readjusted and saved cost of replacement at least for a few more years? Time will tell.
Glad it helped. I eventually replaced mine.
So awesome. Hope your husband's head is ok now.
THANKS!!! Saved me from going to the hardware store! Simple solutions are best.
Glad to help out hcgonza
So I've been replacing my ball bearing into the socket like you said for years now. I agree with crimping the topside of the socket thingy, but often that isn't enough. Lately I've been crushing the spring to make it less spring-y. I am at the point of frustration where I may replace the whole socket.
You can get an entirely new mechanism for a few bucks at the hardware store. It will save lots of headaches.
THANKS! I WAS READY TO ORDER A NEW ONE AND YOUR TIPS SAVED ME TIME AND MONEY. THANKS AGAIN.
So Awesome! Happy to help out.
Great video. Made me laugh. And you helped me solve my french door problem! Thank you!
You are welcome!
Thx, my ball kept popping out with the spring sticking up. This was just the fix I needed. I sprayed some WD40 on top & bottom afterwards and it closes smoother than it ever has.
so awesome it worked out. Eventually i replaced one of my clasps.
Bro. . .my bathroom door have been driving us crazy, thanks for this.
Thanks Tan, glad this was helpful.
thanks for saving me time and money! it was a bit of a pain with my low ceilings but all fixed!
Glad this was helpful.
Great! Thank you. I used your recommendation to raise the ball clasp, so that my French Doors would close!
Glad to help Ms. M.
Outstanding - thanks so much. Fixed!!
Thank you! Thank you! 2024 this video is still relevant! Followed your steps and it worked! Thanks again.
Thanks! Was able to fix in a couple minutes after watching your video.
Glad it helped!
Your highly entertaining video was great. It helped me fix my door which was broken for months. Thanks
Sylvia Zebrowski always happy to help.
Thank You, I have been trying to figure out on to fix this for a long time. I was going to try to remove the whole insert.
Glad this was helpful! You can eventually replace the whole cartridge if you lose the ball.
Helpful and dang entertaining for a video about ball clasps
Glad this was helpful and fun.
