do they integrate Livestock too? at least chickens, which is very easy and versatile..it will be a good addition to the amount of their protein sources(meat and eggs),especially for the growing kids.. keep the egg-laying type chicken like rhode island red, every hen will lay egg almost everyday for 1-2 years(even without the male, but calcium is important),they have good enough meat too, but not as much as meat-type chicken ...
add some meat-chicken like ayam kampung crossbreed( AKK) too,or just purebreed original aym kampung( which is more resilient but smaller and a bit longer to mature and get bigger)..
also, the chicken manure is a very2 good fertilizer..
for home-scale, it is very doable to keep chicken and grow its food themselves, by chooing easy-to-grow plants with complete nutrients for the chicken(such as cooked sweet potatoes(easy to grow, its stem cutting can be replanted, chicken love its leaves too), cooked tapioca, sorghum(minimum water needed, it is dry-land grain, far better than corn's nutrients), madre de agua(easy to grow the cutting to upscale, high protein), flax seed(for omega-3), garden/kitchen scraps, its own egg shells). not much is needed, let say for 10 chickens, around 1.5kg of mix-feed per day...
also better if they are taught to produce BSF larvae too for high protein source of the chicken feed, it can be automated with infinite cycle, feed with kitchen waste etc
