The chinese national tournament are tougher than international ones for the chinese 😂
The other guy just didn't miss simple as that. He played above his level and this was his time. Ma Long has proved how good he is for many years. One loss and everyone says he's rubbish!? No one wins every match. Get real.
The thing is that Ml just can't move properly anymore. It is quite visible. Otherwise he would still own.
Not just one loss. Recently Ma Long had more losses than his past matches. He is just slower than Qihao. Qihao has great ability and he is giving away the 6th game
@Fortnite Rambo i feel like some people really want to see legends decline. I remember they were demanding Boll retire in 2015
These people haven't played any sports in their life otherwise they would understand every sportsperson will have such a phase in their career
This is not a one-time wonder. Don’t forget that Qihao beat Ma Long in last year’s marvelous 12 as well. More than just luck.
Hey, Zhou is very powerful, amazing BH, very fast and crazy spin, confidence, give him credit. I love his style of game.
WOW, I'm really impressed by Zhou Qihao for the very first time.
He's the only one so far who can decently block and counter Ma Long's forehand topspins, usually it's always Ma Long's outright point. Very strong defensive game.
His backhand is also very powerful.
The arks of his forehand are also very impressive.
Serves also quite good.
So basically he has it all, but against European players he didn't seem that impressive to me (which I have seen first).
Zhou seems to fare better against Chinese players, which reminds me of Harimoto.
He also beat Xu Xin...
Yes, I know: both Ma Long and Xu Xin are not in their prime anymore, but that should not downgrade the awesomeness of his victory.
Usually young talented players still lose to them.
Haven't seen his victory against Fan Zhendong in Marvellous 12 in 2020 yet, but I will do that soon.

Win or Defeat, Ma Long is still the dictator. Zhou however, made the match challenging enough for him. All the best for both players.

Yes. Either 1. To try to hide him for upcoming tournaments from the japanese/european concurrents..or 2. To protect ma longs legacy...you canclearly hear the commentators only shout*chua lea!* always when ma long wins a point...pretty biased somehow..

Zhou qihao.my new favourite player.i like his playing style. Hopefully he will have brighter success in his career soon.

MaLong’s still number one. He have come back!
Ma Long was phenomenal in mid distance but now days this is forbidden territory for him because this knee and new style of play right on the bounce . It's very hard to do full stroke forehand near the table and when the ball is deep it is even harder to counter with big swing . Ma Long can push trough this with good form and momentum but he can't dominate just because the ball came so fast after his first powerful full stroke that it's very likely he hit edge , miss the ball or it is waaay wide in his forehand , staying near table make this CONSTANCY hard . In order to dominate without physical strain he needs to change his game again and this take time and different opponent style matches it is very hard to dominate when your body isn't 100% . He doesn't have great backhand flip or supper fast backhand sudden change on the straight and is forced to use full stroke forehand that isn't always winner and put him in difficult situation . If his forehand was 10% more powerful he could easy win against everyone with this game and movement .
Ma Long is allowed to lose a match lol. You don't think the new guard(LJK, ZQH FZD) are hungry? They know who they're up against, they play the best they can.
Calling FZD the new guard is silly

I still can't believe or understand how Fan lost to Liang at the 2019 WTTC. Liang is visibly not as good as Fan but this is TT. Fan is now the best player in the world. Hopefully, Fan can keep this up and win the Olympic single Gold and 2021 WTTC single.

The rallies get faster and faster. Where is this gonna end? The shot frequency is insane!
Have never seen this many unforced errors by ML. He is still recovering and around 50%. After Fan was in bad shape in first half of 2019 and came back with a boom in the second half, i hope the same for ML.
If he is at 100% there is nobody being nearly as good as him. He is just pure power, timing and adaption.

Ma Long is playing better than 2 months before . His form is coming back but he gives power to his disappointment of some bad luck or great yet part luck shots from his opponents and therefore he loses some concentration and gives some easy points next and release the tension that he could build for his opponent. I see his passion to play and he is pushing and his game points in the right direction just do not be frustrated trough the match It only hurt you and your game . If he plays at this hard competition two, three months and is healthy he will rise up his touch ,balance , movement , power and mental toughness . Here Fan is at 100% , Xu Xin plays really good and Ma Long just needs some more competition play to hit his peak performance after absence do to injury . Zike's game was way off and needed not just good form but change of technique and timing , this is time consuming and is harder than just to get in form . Ma Long also needs to adjust but not because his game is weak , he need to change in order to preserve his body better and play for as long as possible with less risk of injury as possible therefore I expect great things from him :)

Ma Long lost his backhand, this is why he loses more matches than before.
His backhand is underperforming, less powerful, he can't dominate the game by distributing the ball with his backhand because puts less pressure. So in this this match he tried to use pivot for more power with his forehand but consequently he has to do more moving effort and he isn't in the shape of his life. When he reuse his backhand at different moment of the match, he wasn't in confidence so he made mistakes and Zhou Qihao played it right. His defeat makes sense even if it was really close, Zhou Qihao played really well, he seemed to be confident and focused in this match.
I hope that Ma Long regains his level of the past even if he has won everything in his career.
yep, his BH is a huge limiting factor right now. and even when he pivots, there is no quality on the FHs.
At the moment, ML's lateral movement is limited. Whether at 31 he can recover the speed and flexibility after a critical surgery, remains to be seen. He's got nothing left to prove to anyone but himself.
When was Ma Long's injury? Was it during a match, or during training?
ZQH has a great snap BH. But his FH needs more consistency under pressure. It looks like ML is a just a half step slow. He doesn't have the spring like he used to. Must be the bum knee.

The difference in skill between the best on the CNT and the worst isn't even that great, so any injuries or lack of adjustments on the stronger player's part could easily turn what some viewers view as an easy win into an upset. If the underdog is playing the game of their life too, anything can really happen. Remember, the only reason the lesser-known CNT players are ranked so low by the ITTF is because they don't get the chance to compete internationally as much.

Pro tactics against Ma are easy today: expose him on the wide forehand, because his knee prevents a quick recovery there. What a shame ...
That, and hey; his change of pace at the backhand is no longer effective... He needs to bring the full power opening, instead of this speed variation... FZD can read it easily, Xu Xin, etc; now also the kids??? Dayum... It seems like he's feasting from Ma Long's backhand dude... Makes me anxious just waiting when he's gonna change the pace and the kid is gonna smash it into his face..
Ma Long's style is the same but much slower and more passive than his past, that results in his style being less effective.
Ma just came apart in the last 3 games with unforced mistakes, shows his body and mind are not in the same place.

Ma Long’s speed is very evident in recent plays. His forehand dominance is no longer viable unless he makes drastic changes to his backhand side. His bread and butter of positioning forehand dominant on the backhand court is getting abused by the younger generation.
Needless to say Zhou Qihao played extremely well; the upcoming generation knows they have to play at their best level to garner any wins.
Anyone knows what kind of shoes Zhou wears?

Very sad to see Ma Long is getting old and slow now ! You have done a good job in your TT life, though.
Nothing is forever. The young Chinese players have caught up and surpassed Ma Long, just as Ma Long surpassed Wang Liqin, Ma Lin, Wanghao. That is the cycle.

I hope i can be alive until the time ML retires and became a coach himself, could he helps someone in next generation to be like him or similar?
I think Long's forehand caused bigger problem because of the right knee issue. Not his backhand. His back hand is still in the same level of his old time, which is not used as his dominant killing shot. Unfortunately he has to use backhand more nowadays. Nobody knows when the knee injure can be fully recovered. Maybe never. Sad but face it. New generation needs to pop up.

not exactly only beat by Chinese player. Ma Long has lost to Harimoto and Lin Yun in a single tournament. Ma Long has lost in other matches. He is just older and you cannot expect same performance as when he was young.

A lot of biased messages around. Reality tells a different story. First we are talking about Marvellous 12 tournament, not a random ITTF tournament. Second, ML is 30 yo. Third, he has done poorly for more than a year. The stats speak by itself. People should realize that by now and just enjoy the last year(s)of the champ because he's not gonna last forever...
thanks for pointing that out. that's what i think too. he can afford to retire now. he has done everything. he and coaches should let it go. he needs some rest. we must be grateful for what he achieved. he's the King.

Ma was world champion '15; '17 and '19 (3 times in a row). He can still play, but not on that TOP level.

yes he does get arrogant sometimes. He won 12 year old Harimoto. He thought he could beat Harimoto again when Harimoto turned 14years old.
