You know, I always appreciated how on the old channel the guys made it a point to NOT play the games everyone wanted to see but I’m glad Pat eventually gave in and is giving the people what they want. It’s absurd that I can say I’ve waited 10 years for this lol getting old rules
I asked pat on stream once about this series and he actually said that MGS was their next break glass for emergency series, similar to RE and Silent Hill before shit hit the fan. He kinda started a couple sentences before cutting himself off too, which makes me wonder if that was what they were about to do soon before the channel ended
I've played MGS1 before and your current playthrough of it just got me through a hellish fever so I'm at like peak appreciation for that game. I'm so hyped to finally see the genius of MGS2, especially now that im at an all time high of classic MGS hype. Can't wait for the rest of the LP!!!
Fun fact about the ice, if you shoot it, flies out and slowly melts... but also the ice cubes that are closer to each other MELT SLOWER THAN THE ONES FURTHER AWAY oh my GOD what the FUCK kojima
I don’t think ideas like that universally should be directly attributed to Kojima but Kojima should be praised for fostering the environment that encourages the type of creativity and freedom necessary for members of his technical team to thrive the way they did with stuff like this that exists throughout every game he directed. That said, that’s also why he always missed deadlines and went over budget and is ultimately why he was fired. To which I say: capitalism does not benefit creativity and never will.
2 will always be my favorite Metal Gear and top 3 favorite games ever. The turn of the millennium aesthetics and music are unmatched. Each game has its own unique atmosphere but this is the one that stuck with me forever since I played Substance on the Xbox when it came out. Thought I was going crazy as a kid online for years seeing people shit talk MGS2. Glad the general consensus has turned around.
The complaining was always bigoted gamer bros whining that they had to play as a more fem presenting guy like Raiden instead of generic action man Snake. Ironically not realizing that is kind of the point, I mean the first time Raiden sees Snake he's literally rising above him with his back turned. Your not supposed to be the big action man, you are observing him from a distance while being a comparatively more normal protagonist. As well as the "I was raised on VR training" obviously representing video games, Raiden is more in line with the player while Snake represents hyper masculine "hero" ideals. But all this makes Raiden the much more interesting protagonist to me, and I don't particularly connect with hyper masculine characters.
I know it was rough for fans at first, but a Metal Gear game where we DON’T play as Snake for a majority of the game is so cool BECAUSE WE GET TO SEE SNAKE DO COOL THINGS IN THE BACKGROUND AAAAAAGGGHHH
MGS2 was the first game I ever played that used the PS2's pressure-sensitive buttons. You had to slowly release the button to stop aiming, and quickly release it to fire. It was nuts. I don't think I ever played a single other game that used them. But it was kinda neat!
@@LittleMountain90 Nah it's much better then the generic action hero fantasies that MGS1 and 3 are. 2 actually had some interesting things to say and has a good protagonist in Raiden. The series never got this good again until Revengeance.
So theres a theory, the tanker bit couldve been planned to take place when snake is revealed to raiden after the harrier fight since how snake says 2 years ago like hes talking to someone
I hated MGS2 when it first came out, I thought Raiden was lame and wanted to be snake again. As i grew up and gave it another chance I realised that was the point.
Would it be crazy to call MGS 2 the most important videogame ever? Because I think it might be. I don't think calling it the best game ever would be crazy either actually.
I think the controls keeps it from being the “best” but it absolutely is the most important. It didn’t invent meta narratives in games but it executed it in ways that no one ever could top.
Raiden is a lot more enjoyable when you realize he’s a dual parody of the role snake plays in the previous three games as a bit of a naive fool, and also a parody of fans and their expectations
The only Koji Pro game I've ever played on Extreme is Zone of the Enders 2. It's actually the best way to play the game IMO. It's hard as shit to start with, but then it just becomes chaotic fun once you leave Deimos. The speed of the enemies gets massively increased. They don't do more damage. Their combos are just a million times quicker. It's ridiculous.

Thank you, Pat; Thank you, Boose; Thank you, Genius Kojumbo
This is great timing since Resonant Arc is doing a podcast on this and they look at all the stuff like psychology/lore/storytelling in a game.
I love metal gear. Thanks for playing these games pat.

@@kinghijinx5892 i definitely wouldn't call snake "generic action man"

@ 2:16:00 I think you could interpret that as he found out the Boss was his mother during that time and he sided with Zero.
You can press L3 to unequip your weapon without leaning to the right.
I wish they would've done MGS back on the old channel but I'm glad Pat's playing through them now since he was always best on the controls.
I asked pat in a dono years ago and he kinda implied that they were about to before the channel ended
@CCDaDon15 daaaamn
@@MegaMar14 yeah, that kind of bummed me out, but I am very happy that Pat is finally getting to it on stream
Man hearing that theme song from sons of liberty really sinks in the death of America through idiocracy. Thanks maga.
Best game in the series by a large margin.
You can press R1 and R2 for negative and positive responses.

The basketball games utilizedthem somewhat, pump fakes in basketball games would be more reliable if you did half presses
Psi-ops used them a lot
Just started watching, I loved playing this game when I was younger. If pat doesn't get a seagull to shit on him, i'm unsubscribing
Sons of Liberty is objectively the best Metal Gear. Glad Pat's finally getting around to this absolute GEM.
Disagree. MGS3 is the best game
"Dark Souls 2 is the best Souls"-ass take

Worst fox unit in the series by far
MGS2: Thighs of Liberty

34:12 "Who's that girl?"
Don't you mean *Snake voice* "Is that a woman?", Pat?
VIRTUAL MISSION?!
The deepest and dankest metal gear game

MGS2 is a fine game, I’m just not a huge fan of it because I really don’t like Raiden
He's not Snake, but he's also not meant to be. I can get not liking him, though.
He's a lot less of a puppy by 4 and Revengeance, for what it's worth.
