Today I explored Wuppertal ,It’s one hour from my hometown .Wuppertals landmark is the suspension railway also called Wuppertaler Schwebebahn it’s the only one in the world the suspension railway is over 100 years old it’s 13.3 km long with 20 stations. It’s absolutely fun to ride it

The German’s really do own all of the engineering. They’re very orderly and the trains look like nothing in the east, but I’m sure you already figured that out. Lol

    • @Der_Kleine_Mann
      @Der_Kleine_Mann 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@victoriafisher6934He said that the part of the Autobahn where they were riding was only allowed like 75mph max. Speed. Unfortunately not everywhere on the Autobahn is no speed limit. There are certain sections where it is and isn't allowed to ride full speed, but I have the strong feeling that they slowly but surely place more and more speed limits😡
Yea, the 'Wupper' is the river underneath the "Hover train"- 'Schwebebahn'.

The Wuppertal suspension railway may be unique,
but it is not the only suspended monorail in the world.
For example, suspension railways also operate in Dresden, Japan and the USA.
But the Wuppertal “Langen monorail suspension railway system” is the oldest and therefore
a model for all later systems.

It's a public transit line that some people use for commuting to work. Of course they have to maintain it properly.
I visited this thing a few years ago, and I was surprised to learn that. I had previously thought it was a special tourist attraction, but nope, it's regular public transit.

My mum was from Wuppertal. Dad sent me this video link. They immigrated to Australia in the 1960s, where I was born. Since then, I met a French girl, had a family, and now I live in the south of France. I only visited Wuppertal once, to meet my mum's side of the family about 15 years ago. But I think I'll need to visit again one day. Thank you for sharing!

But the filthy underground passageway really surprised me. It would be wonderful to be able to visit Germany, Switzerland and neighboring countries which form my ancestral history. I am told that there is an Ihle river as well as a small town by the same name.

2:00 I was in the US Army, stationed in Sandhofen (near Mannheim) from June '84 through November '86 working as a Chinook helicopter mechanic. Living in Germany was an incredible experience I will always cherish. There was another guy who was leaving back to the states and he was in a hurry to sell his 1975 Chevy Camaro with 350 cubic inch (5.7 liter) engine, which I snapped up for just $400. Drove it on the autobahn to Oktoberfest. At the time, generally there were no speed limits except in areas where it made sense due to turns or near densely-populated areas. The high point of my stay was driving from Germany through Luxembourg, France, then onto the ferry (before the Channel Tunnel was built) and over to Dover, then driving on the opposite side of the road all the way to High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, where I stayed with friends and family. The looks from people when they heard and saw the Camaro driving through small towns!
If I remember correctly, back then Dusseldorf was a sector occupied mainly by British Army forces. Curious Mike if they are still there, or if that changed after the Berlin wall came down in '89?

We need a Schwebebahn here in California. I vote for a Schwebebahn from Venture to Imperial Beach. Think about no obstructions the entire distance giving on-time schedules everytime one boards, how great that would be! The GiV is loving it, no LA traffic jams to contend with, free to go as he pleases, everyone can go with an on-time flow up and down the southern California coast. We have to retro fit the hanging cabs to accommodate surf boards! I vote that the new Schwebebahn run as close as possible along the beach stopping in Venice Beach 🏖️ for sure. The GiV to choose where that station gets to be. We can even dedicate the VB station to the GiV, calling the station GiVBS, German In Venice Beach Station. 🤗 🚟 🏖️

I am truly enjoying your videos from Germany. Your mom is precious and a great sport. I went to Germany many years ago and I remember how beautiful the country was. I thought it looked a lot like where my German ancestors landed in the USA. I am from Wisconsin and it really reminds me of the farming communities in Germany. Now I want to ride on that train. Keep the videos coming. LOVE THEM

Since I married a Wuppertaler, we were married in the Kaiser Wagen of course: ) When you sign your marriage certificate the Schwebebahn has to stop because you're not allowed to get married in motion I guess *lol* And they let you pick your favorite place to stop, so we picked over our church, the Hauptkirche in Barmen. Thanks to your video I now know that the Firma MAN was involved in building the Schwebebahn. They also made the famous Muengstener Bruecke in Solingen and all the city busses and LKWs today, still. I lived in Barmen for 2 years and fell in love with the screech of the Kaiser Wagen like the locals. I rode the Schwebebahn to my German class every day. Glad your mom finally got to ride it.

What a beautiful contrast,to Venice Beach, every thing in Germany is well maintained, historically preserved and amazing, Venice Beach is like a bunch of cardboard boxes ready to fall down, thrashed, paved over, the only good thing left is the Mediterranean climate and the contaminated surf, glad you had some family time, and thanks for the ride of a lifetime.

I get what you mean, but much of the US in general lacks the charm & looks of large sections of Europe. But that has always been true. Yet the US over the decades has done well in spite of that, Europe has gone through rocky times (eg, WWII) not because of that. Wuppertal & Krefeld are suburbs of Dusseldorf, which is a region that has cultural-economic aspects of mid-sized American cities. Larger US cities like LA or NYC are full of grime & ugliness, but in spite of that & unlike mid-sized portions of Europe they're more complicated in an interesting jigsaw-puzzle sort of way. But the US in the 2020s is going through a nasty down cycle, just as Europe did during the first half of the 20th century.
