I just got the Starlink package today. I had an issue I thought I should relate. I am in the northern hemisphere so expected a northern view which I had. I mounted the base first. I didn't notice until it was screwed down that there was a keyway. The keyway was to the south. I hooked everthing up and waited for it to hook up and I waited and I waited. I started to think "is that keyway important?" Maybe the head doesn't rotate 360 degrees? It is possible. So I went back up the ladder and removed the head and turned the base 180 degrees. Turn the power back on and it hooked up in seconds. Long story short the keyway is important apparently and it doesn't say that anywhere that I saw. If you are in the northern hemisphere put the key on the north end and on the south end if in the southern hemisphere. Maybe I am wrong about something but that is my experince first day. It now works and it is fast and that is all I care.
Good information, thanks. I was unaware as when we unstowed the unit is turned and did it’s thing. We are way north so figured if it was going to look anywhere, it was going to be south.

My question is: I still have the Hughes Net pole and dish-they only wanted the camera back when I closed the account - so could I possibly use that pole to mount the Starlink dish to?
You can use the pole they put the Hughes Net on, but it would require an adaptor you could by from Starlink or build yourself. Our unit tends to point more straight up than anything, but of course yours will vary.

@@RedBarnHomestead Thank you for the reply. I am going to a rental property that is not mine. The owner has given me one UN and PW, and I was wondering if that is all that is needed to set up the system.
I guess if you don't have cable or fiber, it's a good option. I get unlimited 350 Mbps internet from my local cable provider for $80.00/month. And yes, it works in power outages for at 24 hours anyway. Starlink wants $600 for the equivalent and $120/month for much slower speed, but because of the latency, gaming is not a good experience with StarLink.
@@RedBarnHomestead Great deal for you then! When I moved here in 2006, we didn't have cable or fiber. The best we had at that time was DSL, which was painfully slow. I know a few people with StarLink and they're generally satisfied. A friend recently switched from Hughes Net to StarLink and she's happy with it too
Well, for everyday use, unnoticeable. We don't have any gamers here, but compared to all the internet providers we have had, its speed trumps all else. All streaming services, video calls, you name it seem to work excellent.
I just confirmed my order today and it’s being processed for shipping. I’m a little worried, because where my new place is, there is no cell reception or anything, so I don’t know that I’ll be able to access the app for set up. Maybe I’m just worried about nothing… My neighbors up there said they all waited over 15 months for their sets, I got mine in less than 1.5 months… I’m excited to have contact with the outside world up there!
We know a guy who got starlink in his Montana hunting cabin. No civilization for miles, dense forest way up in the mountains. As remote as you can get in the US. Works like a charm, he connects his security system, laptops phone and tvs. It all works. Hearing that prompted us to order starlink immediately
Can anyone explain why I can NOT order Starlink from the Starlink web site. It continually tells me : Something went wrong on our end. Please wait and then try again. when I try to order. Thanks in advance.
I can't even get past the sign in for the Google Play app. Which means I cannot even start to install the hardware. I just keep getting "please sign in" messages. Sign in to WHAT? Until I 'sign in' it won't let me progress.
All AI dependent with no service. I received my equipment and it failed in a few days. They sent me more equipment but sent to wrong address 8 hours away from me. After 30 more days they sent more equipment. It has been 4 days and I still cannot get a connection. The security key was not included with new equipment. There is no security key on my windows network connection, I tried the numbers on bottom of modem. So, It has been 2 months since I bought Starlink and I have had 5 days of service
Well it’s good to see the other side of the coin. Our service has been easy, everything worked outside of the box and that was that. Security key is the same for all equipment by default, so that should have been too hard to manage.
I was a microwave technician (Master Sargent) in the USAF in 1974. Based on the radio frequencies STARLINK uses, it won't work in North America more than about 78% of the time (based on National Weather service reports)receiving dish
Oh, there is a warning about it and we notice the speed difference too, it’s just their slow speed is twice as fast or faster than the best we could get on other carriers.
@@RedBarnHomestead Not a bad deal then!! I do have install like 100 Starlink Satellite and couple more hundreds in a bear future. I might look into getting one for my working vehicle.
Oh, sorry about that. If we lose our power at the house, our UPS keeps the starlink running. Since starlink never loses power, even with the power out we can cruise the internet on ipads and other battery devices. Our current UPS uses a 7aH lead acid battery and has floated us 2 hours easily.
The whole point of starlink isn't its amazing speeds....which are amazing, but its ability to be anywhwere. Starlink does not compete with Fibre or Cable or even good DSL, but a lot of folks, like myself, have satilite, cellular, or radio as our only way to connect. Of these, Starlink rules them all. If you can get a land connection, great, do it, but if you are remote, it is by far the best service out there...if you can get it.
I have century link and works pretty well. I'm not drilling random holes in my home, not know what's on the other side. Fray some electrical wires and burn down everything you own.

As more folk buy starlink will the speeds slow down
They keep putting up satellites so the hope is no!
does it come with a pass through roof gland or does one need to be sourced for it separately?
They sell one I believe.
Question: Is their only ONE username and password for this system? or a separate UN and PW for the Starlink network and another for the router itself?
Just the one. When you are in, you are in. It will be different than your user name used to access your account.
@@RedBarnHomestead Thank you for the reply. I am going to a rental property that is not mine. The owner has given me one UN and PW, and I was wondering if that is all that is needed to set up the system.
@@RedBarnHomestead But now that I think about your response, will I need a UN to access the owner's Starlink account as well?
@@billwegert385 Yes. One is a local to the hardware, one is for the account.
How did you get the cable cord into your house?
Drilling 3/4” hole through the wall and pulling the satellite end through the hole. That end is much smaller then the router end.
I was wrong it’s not Ethernet cabling. I’m not sure if 75ft is enough or if you need 150ft. It looks like the pole mount would work well.
It would, but the wooden platform I made is 1 year and still going strong. No hail damage yet either.
Nope, we don’t. We get radio carriers, cellular, and now Starlink, which has changed the internet game for us and is worth every Penny.
@@RedBarnHomestead Great deal for you then! When I moved here in 2006, we didn't have cable or fiber. The best we had at that time was DSL, which was painfully slow. I know a few people with StarLink and they're generally satisfied. A friend recently switched from Hughes Net to StarLink and she's happy with it too
2+ years later how is it?
Still fantastic, speeds have only gotten better and with a UPS, stays on when the power is off.
What’s your latency/ping like?
Well, for everyday use, unnoticeable. We don't have any gamers here, but compared to all the internet providers we have had, its speed trumps all else. All streaming services, video calls, you name it seem to work excellent.
Only concern is that my cord that came was only a 50 foot cable and unable to reach where I needed it to
They do sell a longer cable if needed.
How big is the hole you had to drill in the wall from the outside?
3/4"
3/4” covered it for sure.
Just got mine a few days ago and it was named Stinky when i got it ? .. Im guessing i got a used one ?
Nope, Stinky is the name of the wifi from the factory. If you ever factory reset the unit, it will go back to stinky.
I just confirmed my order today and it’s being processed for shipping. I’m a little worried, because where my new place is, there is no cell reception or anything, so I don’t know that I’ll be able to access the app for set up. Maybe I’m just worried about nothing…
My neighbors up there said they all waited over 15 months for their sets, I got mine in less than 1.5 months… I’m excited to have contact with the outside world up there!
You need the app preloaded but don’t need reception after - you do it through the Starlink itself
@@RedBarnHomestead got it, thanks for the reply. I got the app last night after I posted my question to you, so I’m ready
We know a guy who got starlink in his Montana hunting cabin. No civilization for miles, dense forest way up in the mountains. As remote as you can get in the US. Works like a charm, he connects his security system, laptops phone and tvs. It all works. Hearing that prompted us to order starlink immediately
@@wallflower987 could you post a video how to set up a security system with starlink?
Thanks!
Your Welcome!
Please when u Order how long does it take before u receive ur pakage
Here in Canada it was just under a week.
Is this just the residential service?
Yes it is
Can anyone explain why I can NOT order Starlink from the Starlink web site. It continually tells me : Something went wrong on our end. Please wait and then try again. when I try to order. Thanks in advance.
Something is hung up, either the device you are using or a payment method?
I can't even get past the sign in for the Google Play app. Which means I cannot even start to install the hardware. I just keep getting "please sign in" messages. Sign in to WHAT? Until I 'sign in' it won't let me progress.
Try on the website and see if you can maybe get your password reset if it’s not working.
I'm curious to know how it does in the snow.
Self heating - melts it off - it’s been snowing like crazy here for a month (and recently -35) and it’s working fine!
Is this the rv kit?
No - it’s the residential kit
Our unit has had crazy uptime. With a large UPS we even float over power outages 2 hours and longer.
Anyone know how good this service is for IPTV services??
I have heard good things about TH-cam TV but haven’t tried it yet.
What was total setup time
Less then 1/2 hour.
Spectrum is 310/20 👍👍
Of course I’m in California lol 😂 😂😂
Land based will always usually beat Starlink but for most there is no option.
thanks to mr elon 😁
Thanks to the engineers who figured it out.
I didn’t catch connecting it to the router???
There is the dish, and it connects to the white box, which is the router.
How much is it per month?
We pay around $140 cdn/mo
It depends on where you are located in the world 🌍
I can’t get to the “booting” stage. I can’t get past the wifi set up stage.
Yikes! Either something isn’t connected right or you have some defective hardware.
looks like snow could be an issue
Where we are the snow is light and blows around fairly easy. We turned dish heating off.
No human contact so if it does not work your screwed
No, there is lots on the internet for sure, and ticket response times I hear are back on track.
everyone say THANK YOU ELON MUSK
Meh, his company and the people that make it run are great for sure.
@@RedBarnHomestead ok
Please bro upload about its speed tast video
I should do an update in general.
@ 0:35 You will have eventually the same issues with StarLink as well.
Another convenient thing even if the power is out......
You didn't finish your sentence.
Oh, sorry about that. If we lose our power at the house, our UPS keeps the starlink running. Since starlink never loses power, even with the power out we can cruise the internet on ipads and other battery devices. Our current UPS uses a 7aH lead acid battery and has floated us 2 hours easily.
@@RedBarnHomestead thanks
what a crock,,, my local internet service is giving me up to 490mbps,,, ill pass
Pray for us n me ❤️🙂💕❤️
I’m sure it will be great.
Nope, not here to learn anything Just like watching people as they open their new internet in a box.
Happens. Technology is fun.
yanks can talk no end!
It’s a mix, sometimes short style works, other times people want the back story, I try and mix it up.
@@RedBarnHomestead So split the mix, do one in visuals and one with the vocals, the one without the vocals will probably steer you going forward.
