  • Ed O'Brien is pitching 'the hangout', which he describes as a cross between a gazebo and a clothesline, a product for people with wet clothes and high electricity bills. Ed seeks an investment of €75,000 in return for 15% equity.
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Okay so my first reaction is.. why would you want to hang your clothes where the sun can't reach them? And even if the priority here is to shelter them from the rain, clothes will absolutely not dry outdoors in wet, rainy weather, sheltered or not. The moisture simply won't evaporate. They'll just sit there, damp, and grow mildew.
Also, there's few things more annoying that a multifunction device that can only do one thing at a time. If the weather's warm enough to hang clothes under this thing, then you can't sit under your gazebo without wet washing dripping on your head. This thing is 18 kinds of awkward.

I don't get it either, bad idea, stick to hanging on hangers indoors or the dryer or drying racks. I hang clothes in the basement in winter because I have a heat vent that is directed right at the clothes line. Works like a charm.

Are the Irish Dragons forgetting that rain in Ireland doesn't just fall straight down? Some of it comes sideways and there's even cases where it comes to us upside down. Nonetheless, best of luck to him.

I dont get it ? A shelter with integral clothes line for drying clothes wouldn't bother, there's no room in an British or Irish urban Garden [ Yard] for this structure wheres the Market?

Ummmm... if it's raining, you're not just worrying about rain falling onto the clothes, you're worrying about moisture in the air. Also, if it's raining, the sun's not out to provide any sort of warmth. And you're blocking the sun when it's not raining! It's just not improving anything!

Very true. The dampness in Ireland and the UK keeps the islands very green but it's a bugger for drying clothes.

  • @remchaill9898

Also - what the Dragons don't seem to realise is that you can buy a fabric cover for a rotary clothesline, effectively turning it into a waterproof gazebo-like shelter, for just a couple of hundred bucks or less.

So Gavin asked him what are your two major concern . He answered by saying one is take them in when they are dry and number two is when you go out they are not wet they are dry lol ... sorry but was that not number one and you repeated the same answer.... so you work 12 months on it and that’s the best thing you could say and it’s for ppl with high electricity bills for the price he was selling it for it would be much more expensive that must Esb bill alone ...,, Gavin was right the amount off bird dirt on the roof will cost more labour off washing the roof ...,,

As no doubt people have already mentioned (yes, I'm being lazy by not reading through the comments), what about when it's raining and windy at the same time? Surely the rain would still soak the clothes? In order to make this work you'd have to have a heat source and ensure the shelter hangs over enough to ensure the rain can't soak the clothes.
I would have through an indoor radiator or clothes horse would work so much better, with the benefit that you don't have to go outside and get wet whilst walking to and from this outside structure.
