My grandchildren and I use them to make kazoos. Wax paper on the end secured with a rubber band and you have an instant musical instrument. It's a joy to watch six grandkids walking around the backyard pretending they're a marching band! :-)
Love this one--as a recycling project to do with my grandsons! Thanks for the demo which I'll save for them to watch. As for my all-time favorite project with the cardboard rolls: My daughter was in a local stage production of "Grease". For the "Beauty School Dropout" scene, dozens of rolls were covered with aluminum foil and wired to a tight fitting bathing cap. Then they wound a string of white Christmas lights around and thru the covered "rollers" and wired a battery pack onto the cap. The scene was a show stopper as the chorus came down the stairs with the lights lit and stage lights dimmed. Still memorable 23 years later!
Cam Wilsie what an awesome memory! That movie is a classic! I would have loved to see the stage production, sounds awesome!! :) Thanks for sharing that fun story with us!
I use these and the longer ones, such as from paper towels, as a roll keeper for items such as fusibles bought by the yard. I roll up the fusible and stuff inside the cardboard. Then I can mark what is inside the roll on the outside of the cardboard roll. It keeps the fusibles from separating from the paper backing as when it is folded for storage.
I use them to wrap my binding strips around. Keeps the strip very neat and stores any left over for future projects. You can write on the roll the width of the binding and the project it was used for.
Man Sewing I do the same thing with mine. If it's a small quilt, a TP core. If it's a queen or king, a PT core works great. I keep a standing paper towel holder by my sewing machine. When I'm ready to bind a quilt, I just load the core on it and sew away. It unrolls easily without getting twisted or tangled or ending up on the floor.
Tammie Frankum Man Sewing great minds think alike! I also mark on the cardboard inside how much is left so I don't short myself when using the left over on a project.
I use them to make fire place starters. They work great! Just fill with lint from your dryer (takes quite a bit), I use two or three when starting the fire place with my small logs and it no time we have a fire.. I also use them to joint larger ones (paper towel) then cover with fabric and roll table runners and other projects to store them.
I use empty paper towel rolls to roll up our christmas tree lights so they stay neat and untangled. Thread one end inside the tube, wrap the strand of lights around and then thread the other end in the tube and plug it together. They stay nice and put and then easy to unroll around the tree when it's time to decorate for the holidays.
I use scrapbook paper to decorate the outside and put my extra pieces of batting (small of course) inside. I just roll it up so I can stack it nicely. Usually it's pieces no bigger than a fat quarter. I fold it to the size of the toilet paper roll, roll it up and tuck it in. This also keeps it from collecting any particles on it. It's a good way to keep it nice and neat.
i have been using them for cord keepers for years but never thought to cover them. my husband has always complained about how tacky it looked to use toilet paper rolls. i think i'll use your idea to camouflage them.
My favourite use for leftover TP rolls is similar to your idea, except I fill a box with them and then use that box for a bunch of cords and wires. I'm a computer nerd, and an a/v nerd, so there are always spare cords kicking around my house that need wrangling. Sometimes too many...
Dee L What a great idea! I think I'll make one for my son! Thanks! Maybe I'll cover them like this even though they may not show too much over the top of the box.
For a safari themed Vacation Bible School, I used two tp tubes and made binoculars with a ribbon to hang around the neck. For pirates, use two together long ways for a telescope. Thanks for the lesson using fusible interfacing.
My daughter covered a few in wrapping paper then glued them all together into a box - she uses it for putting all her craft pens/markers in - keeps everything neater on her desk top :)
Man Sewing I just saw this Minion made with a t-roll - something for the kids to try :) www.craftymorning.com/despicable-me-minion-toilet-paper-roll-craft/
I once made a fake chandelier for my classroom using foam core for the structure and rolls as pretend candles. It was a pretty cool. The students loved it.
I use them to keep my rolls of wrapping paper tidy. I can cut the TP roll down along one side and use it on the outside of a long roll of paper that is in turn wrapped around another cardboard tube. I can also roll up the wrapping paper, esp the shorter sizes, and tuck them inside the TP roll. Very handy.
I make Christmas Ornaments using ribbons, beads, decorative crystal beading using the TP roll as the base to add these items to glue to the cardboard tubing.
I use toilet and kitchen rolls to store home made binding. I flatten them and wrap the binding around and around the longest sides. I make cord keepers with plastic leather (table protector fabric?) and fabric lining and velcro. Yours looks cheaper to make, and prettier.
My favorite craft for leftover TP rolls are candy "crackers" I make for the kids at Christmas time. Cover with scrapbook paper, embellish and staple top ends closed. (I put washi tape over the staples so the staples don't attack the kids)
i also use to roll binding and either put it around neck with dowel and eye hooks with chain or put on free standing toilet paper holder or paper towel holder.
I fill them with wrapped candies and roll them in holiday wrapping paper much as you did for the cord storage --but I tie the ends with ribbon. They make the best "Christmas crackers" but without the snapper strips because they are so hard to find
I love this idea! Thanks! And as for saving TP rolls, I keep trying but the hubby keeps tossing them out on me when I'm not looking! Of course if I actually did something with them before he did, that would be ideal, I think...LOL. Anyhow I was going to cut them into strips and glue them together to make wall art. I've seen some done and painted so they look like wrought iron! Awesome!
lizzyanthus1 haha I always bribe my wife to keep them! I have to tell her I'll bake her something or clean the kitchen for awhile if she keeps them for me!
Love the video. I would like to suggest clothes pegs to hold your fabric at the ends. they are a bit longer. I've only been using my toilet paper rolls for seed raising. much easier to just then put the whole thing in the ground and not upset root structures. Now i shall go google toilet roll crafts and see what else can inspire me.
I actually make pumpkins from a whole roll of toilet paper and orange fabric I wrap it up with the Orange fabric and stick the fabric in the inside of the roll and then I twist a small brown paper bag insert that to the inside of the roll for the stem of the pumpkin. They are so cute people love them.
I roll my apparel patterns that I copy to freezer paper and slip the t p roll over. then I write the pattern number on the cardboard. they stand on end in a large basket
You need the Iron Finger by Clover, makes that close ironing easier and you keep from toasting your fingers. Plus, you can pretend it's a Light Saber...
When you get to the point that you want to iron back the edge and you fold it back onto itself....leave the paper on, just peel back the little bit you want to press down. Less chance of getting it on the iron.... @2.22-2.55
Pretty cool idea. My favorite thing to do with toilet paper rolls is make photo albums. Here is a video where i made one about 5 years ago th-cam.com/video/jjtcrr4DGPA/w-d-xo.html
I noticed at the store the other day a sign that now gives the politically correct name to TP--it is Bath Tissue---LOL. I use mine to hold my rolled up ironing cloths, etc.
My grandchildren and I use them to make kazoos. Wax paper on the end secured with a rubber band and you have an instant musical instrument. It's a joy to watch six grandkids walking around the backyard pretending they're a marching band! :-)
I'm a Sunday school teacher and I used TP rolls to make little Bible characters. Love the tutorial!

me k just do it and see if he notices what they're made of! :)
Man Sewing i made a couple and so far no comment. either he hasn't noticed or he's given up on me.
I use one to roll my binding on for a quilt. Thread a ribbon through the tube and wear it around your neck. As you sew on the binding it will unroll.
G Blanton brilliant! Love that idea!
Really clever & really crafty thanks Bob
