the theme of desperately trying, so earnestly, to reason with someone (and failing, at your own peril...)

Chucklehaed would've been interesting to see what happens to ropoph in the next chapters. Qualna probably should've been deployed in a later chapter as he could've been Rohoph's last chance, making the situation more tantalizing but oh well the past is the past!!!

yeah, qualna was probably the last chance at reconciling the two parties. we never found out enough about the gdm to say for sure what their motives were, but i think its likely both parties were at fault in some way, with rohoph perhaps being the most far gone by the end of the 3rd chapter.

Spoilers to Non Mardek fans below. Fair Warning.
Also, long and thorough text. No TL:DRs, those are real lazy most of the time, in my opinion.
Upon going back to Mardek again to unlock all the tracks for listening, I have found myself coming back to your comment here.
Playing through Chapter 3 this time around, I REALLY noticed where your comment hits home more than previous runs, and I'm not joking.
Looking back on the events of Chapter 2 and through 3, you the player and the characters *seriously* don't think about the longer reaching results of your actions after killing Moric to stop his wide reaching invasion. After he came back and took Social Fox's body as his new host, all you could think about was stopping him from taking all of Belfan by necromantic force like just before when he intended to animate ALL the dead of Goznor's Catacombs. (You did stop that spell from being cast, but there was still lingering necromantic thauma turgy lingering around and animating the dead inside if/when you revisited.)
Forget the issues it would cause back on Anshar if Moric was killed, he was *too damn dangerous to be left alive*. He proved himself more unstable in his own mind after his Soul Transfer than meeting him face to face in the Catacombs, and this time he wasn't gonna screw around. Mardek and co. killed him, world was saved, Deugan stayed behind and likely dead.
Come Chapter 3, Qualna intends to take a 180 degree approach to Rohoph and try reasoning with him and getting him to see what far reaching damage he's caused to Anshar. With Moric dead and that he had no trained apprentice to take over his work, Anshar had to start sending live combatants to war against those of their enemies. (Not counting also Rohoph's own absence as a high ranking member as well)
Using Clavis as a way to find and talk with Mardek and co. to explain Keystones metaphorically, regular talks of balance, and bringing to attention just what Mardek and co. are doing to the world around them on their quest was quite an eye opener. Sure, they knew what they were doing, they knew they had to do it so others would not attempt if the (possessed) King sent more soldiers to retrieve them, but the fact they actually were WILLING to take the Elemental Crystals was shocking. They obeyed more or less without questioning the short term issues rather than long term. They seemed a tad too inconsiderate of thinking their actions through.
Even mentioning a "friend" Clavis had that was a Necromancer was a subtle note on his thoughts of Moric. Though he hid have his qualms on him, he knew there was good in him. He was one who noticed that reusing undead rather than leaving them to rot away and used them for stopping dangerous threats.
Ultimately, Qualna was trying to reason with Rohoph in what he was doing to stop further chaos and destruction, and ultimately died in his attempts, and you really saw just hoe Qualna *oozed* genuine concern and how off the rails Rohoph was becoming, especially since he was out of sight of everyone else save Mardek, who knew what happened after coming back to the physical plane.

@@stetsonherrick8090 Qualna's attempt at reasoning with Rohoph had many flaws. These were caused by the influence of the violet crystal which enhanced his hate of confrontation to the point of cowardice.
1- Letting Moric go first instead of volunteering at the end of chapter 1 caused the worst first impression of the current state of the GDM as a whole. Rohoph was way less receptive to try to reason with them after Moric's attempt at taking over Belfam and brutally murder him.
2- Qualna was too afraid to directly attempt to reason with Rohoph knowing that he would attack him on sight, so he decided to try to influence Rohoph by indirect means. The disguise of Clavis, while great in theory had 2 big flaws. Rohoph looks down on humans and Rohoph doesn't like to be lectured.
3- Posessing the king to get them to search for the crystals so they see the importance of balance and the dangers of the lack of it made things worse, because Rohoph immediately realized this was Qualna's doing. This only reinforced Rohoph's negative bias towards the GDM and saw any attempt of dialogue as trickery.
4-Qualna could have lured Rohoph into Ashar, but decided to stop to a last attempt at talking things out. As soon as he realized any chance of dialogue was lost, Qualna's hate of conflict was enhanced so much that he gave up on living. Which is why he fought Rohoph and asked him to let his soul roam free. Maybe if he just lured Rohoph he could have talked with the GDM so they catch him alive to talk things out.

I absolutly adore this theme. But why we can only hear the extended version twice? Why!?

Sometimes I wonder, how events may had turned had Qualna journeyed first, or perhaps even accompanied Moric?

Rohoph and the other GdM's were becoming insane because of the Violet Crystal, and Qualna was the only one that realized this and attempted to reason with him, leading to his own demise. Had he followed Moric down in the second chapter, Moric would still live as Qualna would have been there to stop any fight from happening.

@@danielfazly1350 They might go "good cop, bad cop". The problem is that Moric was way too power hungry and resentful to let any chance to take revenge of Rohoph and conquer Belfam, and Qualna was too nonconfrontational to stop Moric. Going alone would have been better for any chance of dialogue.
