    Just wanted to say thank you for the videos. I've kinda slid into a situation where i'm taking care of our server and network infra at work, your videos have been really great for starting to pick up on what is important with this stuff. Printing out the architecture images and the excel for the racks is golden, will do that right away!

    Two of my favorite youtubers. That was great. John is always talking so much, but always give the right amount of space to the people he is sharing screen with. Great content, hope to see a lot more. Special thanks to diagram, that was a great tip.

    actually i do like to do documentation, half the fun is absolutely when i later can go back and with ease look up things, i mostly use excel and it is so easy, just find a common pattern to the stuff you are doing and let it grow.
    love this theme btw, looking forward to more episodes.

    What I use and it's more than enough and simple: snipeit for asset management, bookstack for documentation, netbox for network management and phpipam for IPAM (bc netbox is not good enough for me). All open source. A nice dashboard like heimdall and...start documenting. We manage more than 8k assets and 20+ sites

    • @tomRX4878
      @tomRX4878 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried bookstack but somehow I am not "getting" it... or I have troubles to get used to the bookstyle.. How do you manage so much informaiton on it?
      At the moment (when I have time) a like to try wiki.js.... look more "my way" :-)

      @@tomRX4878 Simplicity is what I like the most and LDAP integration. For example one shelve is for public/standard users and there they can find nice video tutorials for outlook, internal apps, etc. Rest of the shelves are internal and categorized by network (for ex) then L3 (or diagrams, l2) then configs or stuff to remember.
      But the ideea is to document and for me it doesn't matter where it goes. Everything can be searched anyway.
      It doesn't matter what you use to document just keep writing some day it will be useful. 😘

    I worked for a company where the old timers would guard their knowledge and not show anyone how they did their jobs. They thought of it as job security but it frequently led to problems for the company.

    Seems like you are going to be moving onto the next topic. But I would really love a deep dive in how you go from no documentation to a fully documented one site small office business.

    I work for an MSP that is employed by a big german tv production company who are notorious for not documenting anything, having their own people jump ship (taking all that knowledge/know-how with them) and then leaving it up to the MSP (us) to clean it up.
