We went to Moderno 2 years ago for my birthday when on the Getaway. We filled up on too many things before they served the Filet. As for crepes in the evening, I had a Nutella one. Yum! Enjoying your vlogs!
And this is why we so love a balcony! Go back to the room and enjoy the quiet of the ocean after a busy day & full tummies! Open some bubbly & just chill with your honey!
Thanks for all these wonderful videos! I am leaving on my FIRST EVER cruise on Saturday - an 11-day Caribbean cruise on Norwegian Breakaway from New Orleans. Thanks to your videos, I feel like I know every inch of the ship already!
Hey guys! Me and my gf are going on our first cruise in a few weeks, carnival triumph out of New Orleans to Cozumel and progresso. It’ll be the last cruise before it goes to dry dock and changes names. Anyway, we’ve used yalls videos as the ultimate prep tool and I think we are ready! Love your stuff!!
Thanks for sharing your opinion of Moderno. The meat looked juicy, but that's not quite the same as eating it. Those crepes looked absolutely amazing! Thanks for sharing your honest opinions...love you guys!
I will be on the Dawn in 2 weeks and just booked this restaurant, I’ll give it a try though since he loves meat so much. Thanks for a fun video you guys!
Moderno was absolutely great when I was on the Getaway. It was terrible while on the Epic. Such a shame there isn't consistency. I usually exclusively cruise Norwegian, but I am trying Carnival Breeze for the first time this September after the "Epic" didn't live up to it's name. I'm also sure I'll be back, but am more open to variety now.
Manchego cheese is my new favorite! I had it at a steakhouse we went to for the first time this past weekend and it was on their cheese plate. So good!
Agree completely about Moderno's, we will go on the Getaway next week as our kids want to go. I will probably make the most of the salad bar which also really is not up to par with places like Texas de Brazil. I really look forward to the Mexican replacement on the Bliss in April.
Thanks for this video. I'm on my 1st one week cruise with NCL in 2021 and have 2 speciality dining venues in the package. Le Bistro definitely on the last night, but I was in 2 minds, Moderno or Gagney's on the 1st night. Gagney's it is!
Im going on NCL trIP i a couple weeks. I'm thinking of trying the Moderno Brazilian place. Does anybody know if it relatable in quality to a Texas de Brazil or Fogo de Chao? I don't wanna pay $50/person unless its top notch. Thanks.
I totally agree! When we went on the breakaway In December, Moderno was horrible! Meal started out good, but then went downhill fast. I also ate at Teppenyaki, Le Bistro, La Cucina, and Ocean Blue. Teppenyaki was good, and so was Le Bistro. La Cucina was just okay, I've had better at Olive Garden... But, Ocean Blue, OMG. It was AMAZING. By far the BEST meal I had on the cruise, I was just so disappointed that I ate there on the last night! The filet was so tender, and the crab legs were great.
We did not enjoy our dining experience at Moderno, but we did enjoy dining at Steak Brasil in Miami (a short walk from the Intercontinental Miami). Great selection, great meal, and EXCELLENT customer service. We were sorely disappointed and another couple that we met shared our sentiments. I do however LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the crepes. On our sailing the had cherries (pie filling) as an option. I ate embarrassing number or crepes with cherries, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream.
We have a restaurant here called Texas De Brazil that is similar to Moderno....however, Texas De has a bigger salad bar with much more options on it! I am not much of a meat eater but it is one of my most favorite places to eat! I'm sorry you guys didn't enjoy Moderno. If y'all ever travel somewhere that has a Texas De Brazil, give it a try! Now that buffet looks absolutely wonderful though!!! And those crepes, I'm jealous lol...
We were on the Norwegian Pearl recently and had the same opinion of Moderno. Meat was not hot and was dry. However Cagney's made up for it. Had one of the best steaks ever there. It all balances out!
I didn't go to Moderno on my NCL cruise but I had heard good and bad. I did go to Cagney's and it was good. I had the same opinion of the meat at the buffet. It was hit and miss. I wished I had tried the crepes! oh man! Well next time :) Take care and have a great day!
Hi Alisa, Never tried Moderno. That’s a shame I would think it would be a hit. I agree with Jason, I love eating meat. The meat has to be juicy and tender. I love my steak medium rare and my burger pink. Glad you guys had a wonderful experience at the buffet. Love eating buffet, you can choose your own food and dessert. Can’t wait for the next episode! ❤️
It's funny but when we were on the Escape we ate at Moderno. I don't remember much about the meat and I'm not a salad bar person. But I remember how much I loved the mango rice pudding. I would have gone back a second night just to get that but I didn't.
I ate moderno at getaway and breakaway. Great experience and great quality. Really don’t understand what went wrong. You really want steak done right try Cagney but it will be difficult in a churrascaría
Oh no! I feel that way about hibachi grills. Always leave regretful. Churrascarias are fun but its a lot of meat and tend to fill up at the salad bar. I am still on the fence myself about booking it as opposed to something else. Thanks for your honest review.
I love my BBQ Flank or Filet I cook it to my satisfaction, to rely on someone else to make it for me, I'm looking fopr trouble, I guess you are the same. Enjoy watching your Vids you both are fun. Got a new fan in us.
Has Jason ever tried cooking meat (steaks) sous vide before? It takes a bit longer but it is SOOO worth it. Juicy juicy steaks and toss them in a pan to sear or on the grill. You will never go to a steak house again as they will disappoint
Great video. I think of all of the NCL specialty restaurants, Monderno is also our least favorite. I'm a meat guy too and I love rare / light rare beef and I found that most of the steaks on NCL are overcooked in Moderno or the buffet. Hope you tried Cagney's or Le Bristro...they have fantastic steaks!
A question for Jason: I know you’ve lost weight, and I have been also, concentrating on more protein and less carbs, but I’m worried what will happen once I’m back on my cruise. How did you manage it, enjoying the food, and dieting. I look forward to mycruise all year, and I don’t want to deprive myself, but worried about the weight gain. Harder to loss it as you get to my age (65).
NCL Platinum member here and can honestly say that Moderno's is very hit and miss and ship specific. Agree with Jason that if you cannot cook a filet properly then you probably aren't going to be cooking the rest of the other meats properly. That being said, there are some NCL ship's where Moderno's is the best specialty restaurant beating out my favorites like Le Bistro and Cagney's Steakhouse. Not a big sea food fan, but have heard Ocean Blue is tremendous. Love the videos
@@EECCTravels Sadly, Moderno's really is HIT or MISS and it varies among the ships in the NCL fleet, whereas you can go on the STAR and it is spectacular and then head onto the BREAKAWAY and have it be substandard. Getting meats cooked properly for all the various preferences: rare, medium rare, medium well, and well takes some skill to do it correctly. From my personal experiences, as well as your own, where you went into Moderno's and were expecting excellence and received something underwhelming, it is easy to see why NCL has been replacing Moderno's with a Mexican theme restuarant called Los Lobos on the newer ships like the BLISS. Have been fortunate enough to have spent 23 days on the BLISS already with another 15 day Panama Canal cruise Planned for my 60th birthday leaving Miami on 30 March 19 to Los Angeles and looking forward to Los Lobos, Cagney's, Le Bistro, and even La Cucina. The specialty restaurants on NCL really are first rate. Continued good health to you and your family as well as many more years of adventures and travel.
We ate at Moderno on Jewel last month. Frankly, it was sub par like ALL the other food on the ship ! Guess we are spoiled living in Cincinnati. We have two Rodesio restaurants and BOTH were a lot better ! We did have good meals at Tapanyaki and Chinchin. We didn't try Gagney's or the French restaurant. All else was so so at best.
I love Moderno. I eat there at least once every time I cruise with NCL, sometimes twice. I always skip the salad bar altogether because I don't go there for salad. The mashed potatoes, mushrooms, yucca and rice they give you at the start go well with the rest of the meal, no need for rabbit food before. The little cheesy breads are also wonderful. Everything I was ever served at Moderno was always cooked to perfection, tender and juicy. If you go, there are 2 things you should try: the grilled pineapple and the tres leches cake: out of this world. As much as I respect your opinion of Moderno being a bust for you, I must disagree with you.
@@EECCTravels You are really newbies to (brazilian) Churrascaria 😂😂😂. 1) You go to a Churrascaria to eat "roasted meat", plain and simple, so, as Sylvian Forest said, forget the "rabbit food". 2) Did you notice that a waiter pass through you every X minutes with some skewer? This is default, they *have* to. But, they don't go only to your table, but every one. They don't know if you like or not the meat, they just pass and offer. So, *you* have to tell them if you want, *you* have to ask them for the meat to be "on point", in the way you like. Do you like it more/less "juice"? Do you like it more/less "roasted"? *You* have to ask them and they'll provide if the meat isn't "on point" to you. 3) All the "non-meat" food they offer, we says it's a "pega-trouxa" ("catch-taker"), because, of course, a serving of rice cost less to them than a piece of meat. As you pay a flat rate, less meat you eat means more profit to them. Remember, it's a steakhouse, not "ricehouse". You were really "fooled" by them 😂😂😂.

We took the same cruise the very next week, and we totally agree!! Moderno was not a top notch restaurant..... Savor and Taste were probably our favorite restaurants!
Sorry you did not have a good experience at Moderno, I have tried it on all the ships that have it and I have not had a bad meal and the meats were medium rare. If there were some that were a little more done than I would just ask for more rare and they would go get it for me.
It is too bad you did not like Modernos. It is great they gave you credit. The one time we went it was good. I loved it because of the varieties of the meats we got to try. It was not as flavorful and as good as Cagney's but good none the less. My wife did not care for it mostly because she is not a huge meat eater. One tip I have for anybody going there is to have a lighter lunch that day because they have tons food. My wife loves the Italian restaurant and Cagney's is my favorite.
I've eaten at several rodizio's. NCL's is average at best. That being said they have (or had ) great meats. The picanha is very good. The star of the show were the lamb chops but they no longer serve them. The beef rib was also very good If you are a filet guy I recommend Le Bistro.
Tried Moderno on the Escape, once. Not too impressed so we used our meal plan on Cagneys, twice instead. Always our favorite. Going on Bliss this spring. They must have gotten a lot of negative feedback as this ship has a Mexican restaurant in its place.
surely you have said the colours of the card the wrong way round because usually green colour would be for veg and salad and red is usually for meat seeing as meat as red blood well thats the way we do it here in the uk not green for meat and red for veg
in the US it's like our traffic lights: red means 'I've got enough meat, I'm eating/stuffed for now. Stop, don't bring more', green means 'I need more meat, bring more meat'
Hello Jason , glad you said something, as helps them to keep standards for people that follow , watched a few videos and seems as can be the case standards can fail , dry food , cold food , etc a polite can you change this for other item on menu, goes a long way to keeping the kitchen on there toes , am sure the head chefs know there putting out food that Is below par , but maybe circumstance just means have to push out the food , they are cooking for thousands after all , 😋
EECC Travels I thought so watching his food selections. I fell off the wagon over the holidays. I was Keto for almost 20 months prior. Keep it going Jason, nice work! Time for me to get back in the game :)
I think we like Moderno the best mostly in that it's not this tremendously slow paced experience that we have at the others. The filet is most apt to be a bit on the medium/dry side. The short rib is really fatty, very moist. The parmesan chicken drumsticks are good too, if you like drum sticks. And the picanha is typically good. The grilled pineapple is really good too. But if you really just like things more on the very rare side, this type of steakhouse might not be for you. We have found that the servers do not like bringing things to you twice. They make one 'pass' and want you to be done, get annoyed if you want them to come around again.
@@EECCTravels I wouldn't force it--if you like Cagney's, Le Bistro more then definitely go to those! I think all of the meats in Moderno lean more towards 'medium', but some are fattier than others. Definitely not a certainty that you'd be able to get medium rare. If you go again, maybe mention this preference up front. *Maybe* they could accommodate...
I've had similar experiences with a couple of churrascaria on land, so I'm thinking it's a style thing (rather than something specific to the ship). I think that it's more of a North America thing to have really tender steak (something to do with how they raise the cows, I think), and in Brazil, the meat tends to be firmer. And I found that the meat is overcooked. I have liked the bean stew and rice from the salad bar though. Was thinking of booking the restaurant on my first Norwegian cruise coming up. Thanks for the video.
15 times NCL loved Moderno but hey they can have bad day also it’s different on each ship we ve had a not too good Moderno on your NCL also ,by the way on the Bliss there is no Moderno they put in 5 star. Mexican Restaurant and also on new Encore
There’s no way you guys went to bed on a cruise at 7pm lol. You guys didn’t party at the clubs or H20? Even at Headliners comedy club. You can’t call it a night that early on a cruise! especially only a 7 days cruise. Hahaha. You wasted a whole day...lol. Much too early for me. I can sleep when I get home Hahaha

Thanks for sharing your opinion of Moderno. The meat looked juicy, but that's not quite the same as eating it. Those crepes looked absolutely amazing! Thanks for sharing your honest opinions...love you guys!

Texas de Brazil is great! They have the best salad bar! I like it better than Fogo de chao but the only one in Houston is across town.
Rewatching this video. We went on the Breakaway after your video and agree about Moderno. We'll skip it this January.
I've only eaten at Moderno for lunch on sea days. They have a really nice buffet.

Hope you had as much fun as we did!
@@EECCTravels , we did! In fact, we already booked the same ship out of Miami for June!! Keep up the great videos!
I was on the same ship as you, I thought it was terrible
i could tell when he was cutting that beef from the buffet that it was going to be dry. It started crumbling as he cut it.lol too bad
Sorry you did not have a good experience at Moderno, I have tried it on all the ships that have it and I have not had a bad meal and the meats were medium rare. If there were some that were a little more done than I would just ask for more rare and they would go get it for me.
Going to sound creepy but I love watching Alisa eat lol she enjoys her food so much!!
Awe thanks! I am very reactive... you know if I like something or not.
Yes, Jason said Le Bistro had one of the best steaks he has ever had.
Tried Moderno on the Escape, once. Not too impressed so we used our meal plan on Cagneys, twice instead. Always our favorite. Going on Bliss this spring. They must have gotten a lot of negative feedback as this ship has a Mexican restaurant in its place.
Yes, I want to try the Mexican on Bliss!
I really enjoyed Moderno on my NCL cruise to Bermuda! Sorry you didn’t enjoy it!
surely you have said the colours of the card the wrong way round because usually green colour would be for veg and salad and red is usually for meat seeing as meat as red blood well thats the way we do it here in the uk not green for meat and red for veg
in the US it's like our traffic lights: red means 'I've got enough meat, I'm eating/stuffed for now. Stop, don't bring more', green means 'I need more meat, bring more meat'
It was green for go and red for srop
I've been to one of these restaurants in UK, it's the same, red says enough for now, green when you want more!
Hello Jason , glad you said something, as helps them to keep standards for people that follow , watched a few videos and seems as can be the case standards can fail , dry food , cold food , etc a polite can you change this for other item on menu, goes a long way to keeping the kitchen on there toes , am sure the head chefs know there putting out food that Is below par , but maybe circumstance just means have to push out the food , they are cooking for thousands after all , 😋
If it was just one meat we wouldn’t have said anything but we felt like they needed to know. We are always honest in our opinions.
Is Jason following the Keto diet?
Yes and I am so proud of him for sticking with it even on vacation!
EECC Travels I thought so watching his food selections. I fell off the wagon over the holidays. I was Keto for almost 20 months prior. Keep it going Jason, nice work! Time for me to get back in the game :)
We found the meat to be dry and tasteless on our last cruise too!
I'm sad you didn't like it = /
How much u guys eat 🤣🤣🤣🤣 never ending ..
sorry about your visit to Moderno. I usually request my meat at a certain doneness as i too like medium rare, they will accommodate you.
Good to know! I am willing to give it another try.
Sushi ist only "strange" by someone who does't know that the GREATEST group of japanese descendents outside Japan lives in Brazil.
My wife did not like them Cagneys was the best in her opinion
It's pronounced "Shoohaskareah" in portuguese.
I think I would skip the salad bar save my appetite for the meats
15 times NCL loved Moderno but hey they can have bad day also it’s different on each ship we ve had a not too good Moderno on your NCL also ,by the way on the Bliss there is no Moderno they put in 5 star. Mexican Restaurant and also on new Encore
I figure it could have been a bad night, I know that does happen
We have tried Moderno twice and were disappointed both times.
Shame you didnt like Moderno. We ate there twice and loved it!!
It sounds like it is hit and miss 😢
Yeahhhh. I was really hoping you liked it when i saw your vlog pop up. Regardless, love your stuff. I look forward to your vlogs :)
Chur-ahs-ka-ree-ah... lol
Yeah I knew I was butchering it!!
Haha no worries! It’s a hard word!
Anne Marie Parris thanks for the pronunciation lesson. That helps a lot.

We tried Moderno 2011. We've been on NCL many times but never went back. not impressed.
We've eaten at Moderno twice, on 2 different ships, & it was terrible each time. Sorry you has a bad experience!! :(
There’s no way you guys went to bed on a cruise at 7pm lol. You guys didn’t party at the clubs or H20? Even at Headliners comedy club. You can’t call it a night that early on a cruise! especially only a 7 days cruise. Hahaha. You wasted a whole day...lol. Much too early for me. I can sleep when I get home Hahaha
Now most people go overboard at night so how in the heck you suppose to see someone in that blackness?
You are tired...… is that code for "no kids".... just saying it Aussie style!!!!
My good !! No salvation !! You guys like bad meat... Ok.
