Crazy I was thinking of this Saleen just the other day brings back memories when I was a teen remember going to McDonald’s getting the “super size” fries and drink came with the monopoly peel off stickers best give away.. but too bad nobody won it
As a 96 Saleen s281 speedster owner, ide like to say.. sweet and well taken care of ride. Freaking mint!! as brand new looking as they come. well done. cant wait to restore mine.
There was a documentary done on the McDonald’s sweepstakes recently. I encourage anyone interested in the validity of the sweepstakes to watch it. Very interesting how it was manipulated and done.
Love the sound of that cam! I owned 95-033 S351 R-code, Lazer Red/Black Cloth Recarros, back in 1997 and it was a fast car that always drew a lot of attention. It was 100% stock when I got it with 17k miles but they were hard miles by the original owner. I had to send the supercharger to Vortech to repair bad bearings and fix some stripped threads, it needed a professional buffing and some minor paint work which I had done by a high end muscle car restoration shop(looked brand new when I picked it up) and one of the wheels had to be refinished to fix some curb rash. The only mod I did was to install 2.5 Flowmasters and an off-road H pipe(yes, I kept the stock exhaust which I put back on before I sold it) and let me tell ya, it sounded fricking AMAZING with that supercharged cammed 351 and the classic Flows/off-road pipe combo...still to this day it's my favorite car I've ever owned.
I agree. The sound is just awesome. Classic muscle sound with modern (of the time) engine management. The S351’s are the next Saleen to shoot to the moon in price. So many people don’t know that Saleen made these. Six short years of production. I’ve actually heard people say “It’s not real, it’s a clone” to S351 owners at shows. These are blue chip collectibles. Buy now or pay more later with these.
That’s a unique one even among S351s. The intake pipe is believed to be the only one like that. Iirc that one also may have had the spider package and later updated to a Speedster as were the tail lights and door pulls being color coded. Another one of those “shoulda bought it when I could have.”
@@PuristMotorsports also has the machine gun exhaust tips in which I had heard was hit and miss on early cars. 94-97s had Recaro LxB seats and 98-99s got Recaro Trend seats. I think optional in 96 was a 6 speed and standard on S351s 97-99.
Whats the story on the upper intake manifold? The plenum has been cut and lengthened. I purchased an upper that looks identical to that one with the matching 351 gt40 lower.
They extended the upper intake through 1997 or so. Not exactly sure why. They quit doing it later in production. Maybe the figured out it really doesn’t improve performance without changing the runner design.
@@PuristMotorsports Interesting. The part number is a 93 cobra upper and lightning lower? I picked up the set and they have been extrude honed(which I read saleen did). I paid a massive $80 for the pair and run them on my 351w in my 74 bronco.
@screamineaton score!! That’s a deal. The lower mating surface will actually be machined down shorter than a Lightning lower. Saleen did that to get the upper intake to clear the hood.
@ with the damn drop top on them things. imma spend every last dime, its dangerous for me to styart viewing this channel. u know the man built that aint want nothing to do with them damn ford people drifting and wreck they own damn cars. workin on everything the night before. if it wasnt for saleen s7 in silver fast than the berlinetta
Can you imagine if Ford made it economical for an all aluminum 351w? My 351/vortech Saleen fox is still ‘front heavy’ even with alum heads, glass hood and battery in the hatch. My bucket list car is the new edge (99 only) 351 Saleen.
I probably gained 30 pounds in McFat trying to win this car back in the day!! It was the only monopoly price I wanted!! I’d eat off back 3 times a day!! Clearly all I got was FAT!!💔🥴
@@PuristMotorsports yup.. i understand the desire, but I've never been one fine with seeing my money going up in smoke literally!!!. those tires aint cheap!

Recently McDonalds was talking about increasing foot traffic. Maybe they should bring this game back and give away the Saleen. 😆

S351 and S351R is the pinnacle of the mustangs built by Saleen.

Where did you see this? I'd like to find that and watch it. Thanks!

Like the history behind the car. Just would have like to see more of the car

Wow. Super nice 👌 had this as model
Love to see a video on the Saleen v6 Sport!
Nice video Bob., finally got to a 351! Saw that when I picked up my car from Mark
We talked about you when we were doing the videos. Your ears were probably burning back in November😎
I'm sure it was all great stuff, knowing Mark! Haha

It's definitely one that has a running history of changes due to it being used as a press car.

Yup. Lots more to come on these to show those differences. There are other things they changed too.
@@PuristMotorsports yep. I had 2 very good teachers on S351s. Unlike foxes I know stuff about S351s and SN95 S281 Cobras
Wow love it I had #37 1995 S351R

are those the se edititon fts?
Yeah. Same style that was used in the fox Saleen’s. Different headrests and slightly different design in the covers.

saleen s7 in silver fast than the berlinetta
but they all in the same place. and it rains over there at least every other week.
When did the rear taillights get switched out for the '96 units?
When they used it for the 1996 brochure photo shoot.
Nice Bob! I've always felt like the Cobras/Saleens should have all come with the 351-based engine. Just because.
Agreed. Seemed odd that Ford put all the money into emissions and then only made the R model. But, that gave the room to Saleen to make them.

no shot of the engine?....
Why don't you pay for his tires, and anything he brake's
l goot those wheels I tried to sale.$$$
9 out of 10, never listen to an idiot telling you to do a burnout. YOUR the one that will have to pay for the end results.
Truth! And we all know the record of Mustangs and burnouts.

Wasn't the saleen cars just regular mustangs that some rich dude bought and added aftermarket stuff to flip the car
I guess that’s one way of looking at it. But the parts were bespoke to Saleen and designed by them from 1986 on. Closest comparison is to Shelby.
@@PuristMotorsports I thought all the body kits in the 80s were designed and made by kaminari
Mcdonalds never gave a car away . They've been sued a few times over false hopes and fraud. Look up the mcdonalds scam. 😂 Beautiful saleen tho.
Yup! This was just the poster car. Look up the lawsuit where Pepsi was “not” giving away a harrier jet.
