    Cara e brava Miriam, dovresti anche far notare la intonazione di una frase come how are you che è falling e non rising come spesso in italiano

      I've had a similar interest since I attended my primary school, but I regret for not having practiced intensively the language so far, 'cause I know it could have been much better than what it is today... Never crying over spilt milk anyway.. 😅

      Io invece sento un accento italiano forte (direi siciliano ma non sono sicuro - sicuramente del sud). Le “l” ed altri suoni (quasi tutte le vocali) sono super sforzati. Poi ogni tanto sento un tentativo di vocal fry mal riuscito. Sará che sono un maniaco degli accenti ma per me suona come tutti gli italiani che si sforzano di parlare bene inglese.

      ENGLISH: Not even the BRITONS teach these things... my mother is SCOTTISH and her mother tongue is English...

    Hi Miriam! You're pronunciation lessons are truly useful above all for us Italians. We have an utterly wovel language, whereas in English it's totally different. English speaking is a sort of an art: it's more like learning a melody!
    Besides: is your English a mid Atlantic one, or even American? Have you some American friends or relatives?

    In argomento: mi ricordo una volta un'amica che voleva parlare inglese, dopo che avevo starnutito, mi disse "Save you!" con l'accento su you. Io ho capito "Say view" e l'ho guardata tipo "che stai a dí?"😂
    Il problema è che mi sa che gliel'avevano insegnato in classe. Al liceo linguistico........

    Almeno è già chiaro dove va "stressata" la parola.

    Lo stesso vale per "What time was it?" o bisogna accentuare il fatto che si domanda un preciso momento del passato ponendo l'accento sul verbo?

      Sì, l’accento va posto su “was” e non su “it” (e ovviamente su “time”). 😊

      “It was!” non è un’espressione idiomatica. È una risposta (a volte con tono esclamativa, in base alla situazione) che si può dare al pari di “It is!”, “I am!”, “I do!”, eccetera… ad esempio in risposta a “It wasn’t my fault!” puoi sentire “It was!”. Magari se ricordi in che contesto l’hai sentito ti posso spiegare meglio. ☺️

      @@miriamromeoenglishcoach l'ho sentita nel video del concerto di Bruce Springsteen a Washington DC del 2019. Il pubblico ha intonato l'attacco della canzone "Hungry heart", il Boss li ha lasciati proseguire senza musica e dopo averli incitati a cantare ha pronunciato queste frasi.
      "Sounds good!.... come on!"
      "it was! it was!"

      Mi ha incuriosito questa cosa e sono andata a cercare il video del live in questione. 😜
      Dove tu senti “It was! It was!” in realtà dice “A plus! A plus!” cioè da A+ come voto al pubblico perché ha cantato perfettamente la canzone. Almeno io sento questo! ☺️

    Comunque Miriam - anche se non si usa mai nello scritto - "What time is it?" or "What's the time?": questa seconda forma si usa soltanto nel parlato.

      “Accento” si traduce sia con accent che con stress. Quando si parla di accenti sulle sillabe è solitamente più usato stress. 😊

      Secondo me "accent" è più usato per dire, ad esempio, che una persona ha l'accento scozzese, britannico, australiano etc
      Mentre stress è più quello sulle sillabe. Ma magari mi sbaglio.

    In Italian we usually put the stress on the last word ( dove vai? Che fai? Che ore sono?) and this is probably the reason why we make this mistake in English.
