As a SEGA fanboy raised in a Nintendo family, I was one of the few kids who really wanted a Saturn but never got one. I have one, now. Had it for two years and absolutely love it.
I purchased the Saturn just after the release and stuck with it for years even after the PlayStation released. Great memories on that system but one of my favorite multiplayer games was Guardian Heroes by far!!
Had a Saturn since 96, still one of my favorite consoles to play. North American Physical games are expensive but Japan games are very affordable and if you don’t feel like buying games and just want to play them on your Saturn then there are ode options like the terra onion mode and the satiator (I personally have the satiator and think it’s the best option). Definitely 100 percent I recommend the Saturn to anybody and I’ll recommend even getting a Japanese console because they are cheaper and coke with the great controller right off the bat instead of that mediocre model 1 controller they gave us in North America
I've played 1000s of games on just about every system in my lifetime but I've never played a Sega Saturn. I see them playable at game conventions and I will make it a point to finally play one in 2024. Thanks for brining awareness of these systems to the masses. Knowledge (at the very least) is so overlooked when it comes to preservation. Take care!
In 1999 my then girlfriend borrowed a Sega Saturn off her sister's boyfriend. I ended up playing on it loads. He had Saturn Bomberman which we played loads, Daytona, Sega Rally, Panzer Dragoon, Exhumed, Virtua Cop 2 (with light gun) and Virtua Fighter 2. So he had some of the best games for the system. I remember we borrowed it for like 2-3 months so got lots of play time out of it.
I'm Robert's age and literally had no knowledge of the Saturn until I read Blake Harris' Console Wars and found out there was a console between Genesis and Dreamcast 😅But you guys really make it seem magical, and these games look like a blast. And y'all have really made me embrace shooters even though I still suck at them. Great stuff guys!
Love gaining more knowledge about systems and games I may not know a lot about. The Saturn is one for sure. This is just entertainment at it's finest, and if I ever do manage to get my hands on one, I feel I have my first 5 games I would like to try to get for it. Thank you for all the amazing content, you guys rock! #Roadto45k - I can't come up with a top 5 list for this console as I've never played any of it. Would be awesome to do so one day though.
For the longest time, my go to on the Saturn has been X-Men vs. Street Fighter. I thought the PS1 version was the shit, till I tried this. Awesome list guys, I think I'll be shopping for Virtua Cop 2 on my next late night bourbon session 😅
There was Fighting force, and then there was Die Hard Arcade! Not far off from the cabinet in arcades, and a WHOLE lot of fun. I could cover some Sega Saturn all day. Thank you for this video. Cheers guys.
What a nice surprise to wake up to. Loved seeing DDP in there! Another fantastic list, even the honorable mentions are absolute rippers. This and your Dreamcast co-op video are two of my favourite videos ever from you guys. Solid work, keep them coming!
Hell ya dude! Really glad to hear you enjoyed. Our "Co-Op" series haven't been performing well from a numbers stand point so nice to hear they are landing for some. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid sorry to hear it dude. I reckon they're probably slow burners. Like reference videos that people will come across when they search for info. So hopefully they perform better over the long term rather than the initial drop. Best wishes
Great list guys 😁 to answer your question yes house of the dead was rushed The game was around 70% complete and was handled by a third party team not sega themselves And they forced them to release the game early or not at all
This is a long time coming , pumped you guys dove into this console, tenchi wo karau II is the dynasty warriors series 2D and its my favorite beat em up, im surprised Dungeons and Dragons didnt make your list. Also if you guys havent tried DragonForce give it a try its the reason i even bought the console unfortunately its only 1 player. Cheers
Still have my launch Saturn and still love it. One you should give a try (if you haven't already) is Loaded - quality top down(ish) shooter with a awesome soundtrack. Proper laugh in 2x player 👍
Now that you guys have a Saturn it’s mandatory that you get Saturn bomberman. Simple but infectious game. Best party game on the Saturn by far. Other than that I feel like you guys nailed a lot of the great ones in your list. The console has a lot of dope vs and SP games as well. One that is pretty niche but well known among Saturn fans is virtual on
Never heard of Elevator Action, seems worth checking out. You're right, I was surprised Guardian Heroes wasn't included, but I get the reasoning. Radiant Silvergun is sick, I definitely want to track a copy of that one down. And Layer Section's another one on my list. Those JP beat-em-ups look sick too, I'll have to check those out. I have a few Saturns, still been meaning to eventually ODE mod one of the US ones, and picked up a JP unit about a year-ish ago. I don't really have anything that can be considered co-op, closest to it in my collection would be a bunch of fighting games, stuff like Vampire Savior, SFZ2, etc.
Man, I get the appeal of Guardian Heroes for sure but the 3 tier side scrolling doesn't jive with me. And the another cardinal sin of gaming..............I f'n hate when "Up" is jump! Maybe it's just me but games that do that bring my piss to a boil LOL
@@GamingOffTheGrid Yeah up=jump chaps my ass too. Like i said I get why you guys didn't include GH in the list, I just figured it'd make it. The multi-plane stages seem like they'd be a pain in the ass, I've never played it myself so I don't have a horse in that race. I wish I had some nice hidden gem game suggestions, but I'm not that deep into the console yet. I could offer up some well known bangers though: Rockman X4, Biohazard, Panzer Dragoon, etc. and various amazing fighting games (but it doesn't seem like you two really spend a lot of time with fighters).
Hell yeah! Saturn rules! i finally got one last year with the Satiator ODE and now have the library on SD card. It was that or never play it because those games are insanely expensive so, now i can enjoy that amazing library!
Sega Saturn! Yeah baby! My favorite console, had mine since 95. I have nearly 60% of the US library and many Japanese exclusives. So many great games on this console that few knew about back in its time. Also gotta mention the Saturn controller is of legendary status, best 2d controller bar none. Its a tragedy most didn't realize how amazing this console was when it was fighting for its life. It certainly didn't deserve the fate it received.
Saturn was the only system from the console wars (Nintendo, Sega, Sony) neither I or one of my friends ever owned. Sad to say I never really got to try it. Emulated a bit, but no nostalgia and shoddy emulation for that system made for a lack luster experience. These games look cool. I remember seeing the ads for Scud back in the day, and always wanting to play it.
blazing tornado: a great arcade-style wrestling game. x-men cota: a huge get for the console when it first came out, and a near perfect home port. vampire hunter: another near perfect home port. kof 95: the reason i got a saturn back then after abandoning sega for the ps1. batsugun: my favorite vertical shmup among a pantheon of the best ports of the 32-bit era.
Unfortunately, growing up, I only rented Sega Saturn. It was to play the movie street fighter game and NBA JAM T.E. NBA JAM on the genesis was fun, but the graphics weren't the same as the arcade. Sega Saturn is the only Sega console I never owned but wanted to.
I only knew one person who had a Saturn growing up and he was rich. lol All my friends either had a PS1 or N64. Dude Three Dirty Dwarves looks interesting! Never heard of that! I'm not surprised... I knew you guys would HAVE TO have a light gun game. lol
Saturn is out of this world! Outrun on it has me HOOKED, also let's not forget the Saturn ....has.....GEX (none of these are co-op I know:) great vid again love this channel
I really like this list. I'm not familiar with the Saturn at all, but these games look so unique that it makes me want to play them. A friend of mine has one, but he only has a couple games for it.
Great list! Completely agree that I wish more games during this gen stuck with 2D. Not everyone could pull off 3D that generation. Love that the beer reviews are back!
I'm surprised you didn't mention Saturn Bonberman. I remember getting together with 6+ players quite a few times a year. I was the popular kid for buying Saturn Bomberman.
@@GamingOffTheGrid technically, if you have 2 teams of 2 or 3, or 2 or 3 players in a team vs bots, it could technically be considered Co Op, but I agree , it's better as a Party Game. It's one of those games which can be be either co-op, or vs, or team vs team, or multiplayer cutthroat. You know, sort of like how Joust, Wizard of Wor, and Mario Bros could either be vs or co-op depending on how you choose to play. But those 3 games I mentioned don't recognize the difference between 2 friends and 2 foes. Bomberman does recognize the difference between 2 friends and 2 foes. Btw. NBA Jam is 2 on 2, so 2 players can play either co op or vs
You need to do a top 10 Saturn fighting games. The system has so many excellent games for this genre. In my opinion the console had the best sprite graphics of any console ever made ! Way too many beautiful games were on Saturn for it to have failed 😢
It's definitely loaded with GREAT fighting games. That genre isn't typically our cup of tea so our opinion on the matter wouldn't carry much weight. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Yo that guardian heroes shade will not be tolerated 😂 It’s only 3 layers, and that game has more to offer than almost any game on the system. Street fighter style secret moves, 6player, branching paths. What’s there not to love
I do appreciate Guardian Heroes but there's one other thing it does that I forgot to mention and it really pisses me off. I HATE when games use "Up" for jumping LOL! It really bothers the hell out of me for some reason.

@@GamingOffTheGrid It's worth checking out. Haven't heard a single person mention the Cooperative/Versus mode in it as well anywhere in the past decade. I just so happened to stumble across it by chance.
batman forever was one of the most fun rentals. even as a 12 year old i could feel the jank, and knew the quality of the game was objectively terrible, but me and my friend just kept playing it all night. it was the first game i'd ever seen to have combos go up to 100 or more.
I keep begging people to try this with Scud. Do one controller and one light gun. One player controls Scud with the controller in the run and gun while player 2 lays down cover fire with the light gun. You can even set it to where the light gun either kills enemies or just freezes them. Try it! No one ever does! Tell people.
@@GamingOffTheGrid It was a great comic, too. Lots of fun! Put the disc in a CD player. There's not just audio tracks. There's a Dead Alewives skit on there featuring Rob Schrab and Dan Harmon who wrote the comic. The went on to write the movie Monster House, and Dan Harmon went on to do Community and Rick & Morty. They're the same group that did the Summoner Geeks role-playing skit on the disc for Summoner on PS2
I was the odd kid that had a saturn and not a playstation. My father bought me one for my 8th grade graduation with NBA action, and i think it included virtual fighter 2. Great system. i wish i gave it more of a chance back in the day before i switched to a playstation 😂
Dude I get it. I told my neighbor story in this vid. He had it all and we still were all over the PS. It was such a cool time to be a gamer. That run Gen 3-6 was incredible to be apart of.
We need a Saturn mini console BAD. I missed out on it too and even back in gen 6 it was expensive to collect for so I never bothered. KBS is deceptively dangerous. I remember sharing a bottle with a lady friend and we both got tipsy off the one little bottle!
Loaded on the Saturn is my preferred way to play it and 2 other Japanese releases dungeons and dragons deluxe great beat em ups and battle garegga another great schmup
Dude that is good to know. We love Loaded on the PS1 but have always been curios about the Saturn version. Why do you like it more? We'll have to check it out.
@@GamingOffTheGrid I think for me it’s because I played loaded on the Saturn first it feels like it runs smoother to me just my opinion but I also think the controller has a lot to do with it I find it easier to play with it I prefer the Saturn controller. Capcom generations 2,4&5 all Japanese releases on Saturn are great too, 2. Ghosts and goblins, ghouls and ghosts, super ghouls and ghosts 4. Commando, mercs, gun smoke 5. Street fighter 2 collection the world warrior, champion edition, hyper fighting all seem to play better on the Saturn to me I think they are all pretty close to the arcade version
If you don’t have Panzer Dragoon Saga and or Magic Knight Rayearth then you’re not a real Sega Saturn Collector 😂😂😂 appreciate you guys enjoy the week another banger video
Resident Evil on Saturn is very good. I think I actually prefer it in ways over it's Playstation counterpart. Deep Fear is one to look into. The Japanese copy is super cheap. You can use a translator on your phone to read the files in game so you can understand the lore. The voice acting and menus are in English so it's definitely playable. It's a Resident Evil clone, and a pretty good one at that. The PAL version, which is in English, is stupidly expensive. Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, and Powerslave are great shooters on the Saturn. Powerslave is pretty rare and very expensive though. Alien Trilogy is another good shooter. Just to name a few. Not really co-op games, but some Saturn stuff to look at.
Best console that was never was cus people were brainwashed by ps1 Saturn had best games at time ame play but Sony threw loads of shite games out and everyone thought yeah the ps1 was the best and it killed sega off
My frav console of all time, where do I begin on games to play two player, metal slug, hyper duel, soukygourentai, strikers 1945 1 and 2,in the hunt,Darius gaiden and Darius 2,sonic wings special, blast wind,oh yeah on duke nukem 3d Saturn version,if you have a save from quake or exhumed on your saturns memory you’ll unlock a game called death tank zwei, best multiplayer game ever, think worms simplified but ya tanks instead and upto seven players on screen blowing the shit out of each other, just make sure ya get a Saturn multi tap and five extra controllers and m8s for that one,😉,lol, laters
We’ve played it quite a bit. Didn’t click with us. I really didn’t like the different side scrolling plains. I’ll give it another go. Mentioned it in this video.
I would consider Guardian Heroes a Party game moreso than Co Op, at least based on the 6 player mode. But the quest mode of Guardian Heroes qualifies as a Co Op.

It's worth it brother. I had alot of trepidation going in myself.

Don’t forget the Japanese versions are half the cost. Just get the cartridge for it to run the games.

We have a Fire Pro game for the Saturn but off the top of my head I don' think it's that one. We'll have to look into it.
Those are some awesome games. I actually sold my us saturn because I got a japanese saturn because the games are so much cheaper!
The Japanese library is insane. We have just been scratching the surface and our minds have been blown.
@@GamingOffTheGrid it is! They supported it longer and the games are way cheaper
Guardian Heroes Die Hard Arcade and Three Dirty Dwarves
You guys doing MGC this year? Didn’t see you on the vendor list this year.
We're planning on it. Just attending though. Not vending this year
I need to try that beer. I love dark beer. Game on fellas
I keep begging people to try this with Scud. Do one controller and one light gun. One player controls Scud with the controller in the run and gun while player 2 lays down cover fire with the light gun. You can even set it to where the light gun either kills enemies or just freezes them. Try it! No one ever does! Tell people.
Dude we are officially down a Scud rabbit hole. I can tell you know. We have been playing the game every which way. Loving it.
KBS!? Drinkin' fancy!
Damn straight! Cheers!
You guys need to play the Legend of Oasis. It's old school nes and snes Zelda but better!
@GamingOffTheGrid yes very. Great video guys
Guys you got to try Psychic Killer Taromaru co-op, its like a weird feudal japan 2d Contra. Thank me later!
This ^ the Japanese Libary is the gift that keeps on giving
On it!!! I remember seeing something about this game years ago and completely forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid me and my nephew had a blast playing this and radiant silvergun
We need a Saturn mini console BAD. I missed out on it too and even back in gen 6 it was expensive to collect for so I never bothered. KBS is deceptively dangerous. I remember sharing a bottle with a lady friend and we both got tipsy off the one little bottle!
Yes we do!
Elevator Action Returns is fantastic.....BUT where the hell is Guardian Heroes?!? I thought for sure it was #1.
That game didn't click with us. It's good and all but the 3 tier side scrolling bothers me. And UP is jump.
@@GamingOffTheGridthink of it as a 2d fighter in planes and it becomes legendary … GH vs. mode inspired smash brothers
Capcom generations 2,4&5 all Japanese releases on Saturn are great too,
2. Ghosts and goblins, ghouls and ghosts, super ghouls and ghosts
4. Commando, mercs, gun smoke
5. Street fighter 2 collection the world warrior, champion edition, hyper fighting
all seem to play better on the Saturn to me I think they are all pretty close to the arcade version
If you don’t have Panzer Dragoon Saga and or Magic Knight Rayearth then you’re not a real Sega Saturn Collector 😂😂😂 appreciate you guys enjoy the week another banger video
LOL!!!!
I had the Saturn It was awesome just to bad Sega of Japan and Sega of America didn't get along
Awesome console for sure. It had so much potential
Gosh that is a lot of games😅 I wonder if I’ll ever have a collection that big 😮
Nice one!
Virtua Fighter Kids
Have you dudes tried Dragons Milk?
Oh yes we have and the variations
@@GamingOffTheGrid you guys are on another planet with your beer 🍺 game!!
I love this kind of content 👍🍉🤣
I prefer you guys do American only list and do the Japanese stuff on a separate list of their own.
Appreciate your input, but this is just our Top 5.
Arcade 🥹
Sega ages sega rally Daytona championship virtua racing wicked arcade games wasn't appreciated when it came out cus the ps1 killed it
Best console that was never was cus people were brainwashed by ps1 Saturn had best games at time ame play but Sony threw loads of shite games out and everyone thought yeah the ps1 was the best and it killed sega off
Best channel on you tube from across UK big up lads brilliant
What do I search to find this horse video lol
Check It Out! With Dr Steve Brule
🤘🎮🕹🍻
I presume you haven’t played Guardian Heroes yet because it isn’t on the list or honorably mentioned. Be prepared to redo this video.
We’ve played it quite a bit. Didn’t click with us. I really didn’t like the different side scrolling plains. I’ll give it another go. Mentioned it in this video.
Not as good as people praise it.
@@lordeowsthekingexactly.
I would consider Guardian Heroes a Party game moreso than Co Op, at least based on the 6 player mode. But the quest mode of Guardian Heroes qualifies as a Co Op.
GH is the most overrated saturn game 😂
No Guardian Heroes.
WOW
They mentioned it in the video.
Yeah it didn't click with them apparently they didn't like the plain switching mechanic
What about darkstalkers? Thats a good game
Is it co-op or just 2 player?
@@GamingOffTheGrid just two players i think
@@GamingOffTheGridit's a 1 on 1 2D fighter :)
