Lyrics:
It's been a long dark dirty road
And pocket full of gold
I've been out here now
All on my own
It's real quiet here
Just the way I like it here
There's no one to bother me
Except
In 1955, born into Wadena's pride
I laid my head on that
Milligan creek bed
When I was a young man
I helped build this land
Oh, I put down these rails as a
CPR man
Thought I'd live forever
With my heart in my pocket
Oh, my gun by my side
And my feelings in a locket
Well, that was a cold year in '77
But I married my wife
We had two kids
I gave her a daughter
She gave me a son
And we rode those damn horses 'til we had none
Fist still like flyin'
Doing things for dyin'
Oh, I should have put that old gun away
Well I, I am a broken Cowboy
And I don't feel right no more
'Cause I am a broken Cowboy
Livin' life in the fast lane
Racing cars and robbing trains
I thought I had it all
Then one day, I got the call
A father's worst dream
My son went down and I
The colours deceive me
As I see grey
Oh, you're cutting me down with those
Cold words you're saying
Then you called me, brother
But this can't be so, 'cause you
Slander my name, anywhere the wind will blow
Well, I am a broken cowboy
And I don't feel right no more
'Cause I am a broken cowboy
Yes, I am a broken cowboy
It's been a long dark dirty road
But a pocket full of gold
And I've been out here now
All on my own
Well, it's real quiet here
Just the way I like it here
There's no one to bother me
Except that old taunting tree

I can't believe this is an original song. It's haunting. It's perfect. I assumed it was an old classic that was just being covered by these guys
Yeah they write good songs, they have quite a few that are instant classics.
I want to put a band together just so I can cover some of these guys’ songs.
@@Maddjacklee81 with a bottle of Jack and a tin of skoal!
I as well instantly went back to look for an original version
Sugar & Joy
This song should have been on Red Dead 2.
This entire album should have been in rdr2
It would be good in Fallout New Vegas, too.
100%!
This literally reminds me of RDR2 everytime.
Listening to this in memory of my Dad on what would’ve been his 80th birthday.
RIP Dad, I love you.
This gets me every time I hear it. The tone, Nate's vocals and the lyrics are just perfect for a rainy night or driving down the road at dusk. Or better yet, anytime.
Good listenin' white taking a long hot bath after a dusty, dirty, long day on the farm.
Yeah man I agree 120%
Damn Straight!
Anytime, indeed.
The man strumming the banjo is also on point. I can’t but help to point out how prevalent it is in the harmony of this song.
These Guys are World Treasure! Keep doin what your doing! GOOD Job!
A tip of my hat... for all us broken cowboys 🥃
Same to you
I hope this makes other people feel the way I do
if you survived you will be undieyng :D
Yes it does 😢
The hardest hitting line, "The colors decive me, as I see gray." Kills me
Why do I like this music?Because it's more than music. The world of feelings....
Thanks guys.
I want to hear more songs like these on the radio, this is marvelous!
I feel more alive listening to this story! What an amazing song!
While theres so much more to the song than this, the main relatable part is regret and loss and how that regret relates to the loss. These guys are incredible story tellers in a way that relates to people that haven't experienced the exact story and it's an inctedibly therapeutic thing. Even through a carton of beer and tears. And that tree certainly taunts but ypu stay strong, its not the solution.
Have seen them first time live yesterday in Bremen / Germany, and holy shit - what an evening!!!! Best live act in YEARS🤩🤩🤩 Can‘t find the right words to describe it! Definitely not the last show.
This song is something Johnny Cash would sing. Bravo.
If Johnny was alive I’m sure the Dead South would be honored to have him sing it.

Hammer guter text.. 👌I love this song.... Der beat is amazing.... The voice einfach wunderschön..... ❤️
Thanks for the lyrics! One thing, I think it's "safety amend" not "CPR man"
@@captainmawk6041 I'm assuming in the context CPR means "Central Pacific Railroad"
@@captainmawk6041 I believe it means "Central Pacific Railroad"
@@TsMotorsports It’s Canadian Pacific Railroad
One of my favorites, I could listen to this song all day.
I've been doing that LoL.
lost my older brother in 2016 to a car accident. Crazy to think im older than he ever was now. This Makes me cry every time still. rip
be strong friend
He’s still with you, watching on proudly. Stay strong for him 🙏💜
What I love most about this group, is the raw sound of the vocals are harrowing in this time telling song. And the instruments compliment this in the process.
As a young man who worked in construction and moving others belongings in a safe and effective manner, I feel like I help build the world. And maybe when I'm old I can have pride in the true work I did that others couldn't and didn't want to do. Because I Am.
Their talent never ceases to amaze me!
What an amazing song. Can listen to this for an hour
Love it, reminded of absolute sadness, with a light at the end of the tunnel 🐎
I'm pretty sure that 'Old taunting tree' is where he die, either suicide or just giving up completely and passing on, that's what I always thought it meant. Old cowboy broken by grief reaching the end of his life.
Best song I’ve ever heard over 2000 times! Seriously I love it and somehow I feel like it’s about me.
Kickass song
Thank you TH-cam for recommending this awesome band!!
This is by far my favourite song that they do 🙌😄
Instant atmosphere
I wanna die and be reborn to this song- it is perfect, I feel it in my bones. Well done lads!
I’m going to cover this for my channel ❤❤ you guys have really made the perfect tune. I love it so deeply
Driving in texas at sunset going home from Louisiana to see my wife and kids .. perfect song
So Iconic and beautiful. A great one to sing along to. Love his voice!
Fantastic.
Love the voice, the music 🎶 the whole group is top notch.
Just stumble upon them on TH-cam. Absolutely great! My wife and I love "In Hell I"ll be In Good Company" clip. Cool as heck!
Also there's Diamond Ring, Banjo Odyssey and Honey You. All great songs.
This song is goosebumping, I hope they make a videoclip for it soon
I don't; this song is perfection as it is, and paints a vivid portrait with just the lyrics. I'm afraid a videoclip would diminish it, take away the impact of the words.
This is so good I learned playing it
Marzo 2023, listening good music from Venezuela.
Great music...
What a incredible original song
Thanks. Cheers from Melbourne Australia.
Just seen these live.. this song was incredible! Sounds the exact same live!!! Bloody brilliant x
I can't stop listening to this man, it's great
Love, my music. Didn't realize until my Dad passed. Know I get it. Beautiful 💕 all hank 3 on his Playlist. My goodness what a sweetheart. 😂😊❤
Check out the live version.....almost identical. These guys are real musicians.
I listen to this too often. It has me reaching out to folks I haven't talked to in years.
God damn this song helps me right now
You're broken, cowboy. Let Jesus put you back together.
Duck tape😂
Creí que esta canción sería un clásico de hace años.
Wow... 😦✨
I get to see these guys in august ❤
Anybody else listen to this while playing red dead

Winner 🏆
I feel for this music, seeing them in January in Calgary

One of my favorites!!!!
This song floors people every time I play it to them for the first time.
Mate sent it to me right then... I gave you a daughter...you gave me a son ( with the back ups ) sent shivers down my arms and legs aye
@@krisnolan3941 true aye…and, ‘I don’t feel right no more’, sounds so raw you believe it
Queensland Australia is a long way to come for one concert venue Australia is a big country its a pity you are not touring this country as i live in Perth WA i know you have a lot of fans here , love your real music

I always think of my dad when it comes to this song. I'm in the car rn listening to this with my uncle in the car. It just hits so bad when he talks about the daughter and son saying he gave his wife the daughter and that his wife gave him a son..
unexpectedly awesome!
Just waw , one my favorite of all time and the funny thing iam from Syria, but some how the pain and the deep image of the life story reached my heart ❤️ 💙 💜

The best part of this wonderful song is you can hear a few twangs of Ian Tyson - he would have loved this.
